Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (Memphis Transfer)
I'm probably wrong about this, but since Iverson only played 1 and a half years for Memphis, and is sitting out a year, wouldn't he have 2 and a half years of eligibility left?
Someone can clear this up I hope.

McNamara almost certainly will take Goodman angle, bad kid, talented. Teams like URI have to take a chance.
Good job Hurley and staff, whoever main connection was. Like Billy says, keep Expressions connection going.
Good info Rod!!

Allen Iverson is my favorite basketball player of all time. I was a huge Georgetown and Sixers fan back in the day before I went to Rhody. The fact that this kid is even remotely related to Iverson makes 12 year old me really excited.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
I predict he'll fit in perfectly with URI... He shot 38.1% as a freshman from the FT line.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
Will be interesting if he does end up with 2 1/2 years as ESPN states. That doesnt sound right though.

he played 3 semesters, that counts as 2 years of eligibility, he has 2 years remaining. If he plays Spring semester then he will have 1 year remaining (1 semester is 1 year of eligibility)
eligibility is by years not semesters

Right, that makes sense. Thats why ESPN's 2 1/2 years note threw me off a little.twisted3829 wrote:he played 3 semesters, that counts as 2 years of eligibility, he has 2 years remaining. If he plays Spring semester then he will have 1 year remaining (1 semester is 1 year of eligibility)

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
I think it is a great job breaking this on Keaneyblue. Rod continues his chief status.
Happy Dan made it happen, however his role was.
Expressions E pipline! Are we dreaming?? I think Dan Hurley is the guy that can get something out of this kid where Pastner did not.
I think Dan is a better coach than that guy with development and how he interacts with the kids. _______ is an outlier to me, look at the attitude of the rest of the team, they aren't all the same type of kid but they all are bought in.
I am betting Dan gets alot out of Iverson who will be close to home and thrusted into what is a super basketball environment with kids all focused on getting better, not reading the press clippings.
I don't think the Memphis program is hungry like ours is.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
It does. He sits a year as a transfer, he gets it back as a 5th year. Plays 4 years.
If he had stayed at Memphis the spring semester, he would have used 2 years on scholarship, so he would only have 2 left, after sitting out all of next season.
Transferring now, he's only used one and one half years. So he has two and a half years left to play.
Twisted, scratch that. You're right. Ignore this post, ha ha. Didn't know that, now I do.

I'm going to get way off topic for a second, but one of the best moments of my childhood was when I was 15 and went to the 1996 Big East Championship at MSG. UConn vs Georgetown, Allen vs Allen, we went on a bus trip that my dad's work put together. He worked at the post office. It was me and about 50 drunk as hell UConn fan postal workers and me in my Iverson jersey and Georgetown jacket. There are so many stories, but the best was how the trip was capped off with two of the guys getting into some argument on the bus after the game that led to one guy just knocking the other guy out in the middle of the bus. Busted his nose, blood everywhere. After a few minutes he came to again, got up, and they all just went back to drinking on the bus again while he held some towels on his nose. These are moments every dad needs to share with his son. I learned what it meant to be a man that day. We still talk about that trip several times a year while enjoying a few.
Oh, and this is still my favorite thing of all time...

Well, Goodman is probably connected to more people than Forbes' own Alex Kline and Goodman's fellow ESPN prima donna Bill Simmons. Big effin' deal. All these guys are compilers of information.giovanni wrote:Jeff Goodman who has been very critical of Iverson says Danny really rolling dice with this one. Gary Parrish on other hand says type of gamble worth making. I totally agree with Parrish.
If Coach Hurley and staff are willing to show Iverson the lay of the land at URI and point to people not being able to handle it, well, then if Iverson becomes a pain-in-the-ass, then it's a problem -- for Iverson. If he wants to realize his potential and work his ass off, then this is the place for him.

Was Koch plucked by the journal to torpedo the new Rhody rise in this state.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
How about, "Good job, Ty Boswell."???
Dan was reluctant to take him, and supposedly had to be talked into it.
Iverson was in the last row of the section behind the bench.
Geez comparing him to Orion Outerbridge? Seriously?
Long way from people saying his game is similar to Lamar Odom's.
Maybe I can shed some light on the 2.5 year thing.
Memphis vacated Iverson's scholarship.
Technically, he's not a transfer, but a free agent.
He may be able to play this year.
Not sure if they have to petition the NCAA.
If they do, the NCAA will make their ruling in May.
It's dicey, ,but possible Iverson gets eligible now.
However, seeing how Hurley handled Watson, who'se
been here a year, I don't see Iverson getting much playing
time.
Of course, if he takes Reischel and Butler's minutes, that would still
be a vast improvement for the team.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
Looks like a top big man recruit was there as well.
Hoping for a late Christmas present, on top of the Iverson transfer.
Rod, I doubt he'd play much. He had defensive issues at Memphis so I heard, where he would lose his man at times. Sounds like Watson's issues also. As we've seen, Dan will not give up defense for offense.
It would be nice though, if he could at least be eligible this November, and play 2 full years.

Coach Fleming tweeted that an elite recruit would be at the basketball game. But it was unclear whether he was talking about a basketball recruit, a football recruit, or even possibly Iverson. It's a mystery right now. I'd like to know who he is.rodfromcranston wrote:Anyone know who the huge guy across from the visitor's

Iverson playing this year is a long shot, but I wonder if he
could get a full years, like Fats Woodson got when he left Memphis.
and play without sitting out a minute, from one year to the next?

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
No way he can play this year. And even if he could i highly doubt Dan would break up the team chemistry by adding someone new. Especially someone who likely is going to need a lot of mentoring and baby sitting. Ease him into the Hurley way, which includes a lot of defense....and team building. No rush, the future is bright. Its not as easy as "this guy has talent put him in the lineup."

BAR, saying "No way he can play this year", conflicts with what I've heard
by people close to those who brought this together.
If you're saying, Dan wouldn't play him, I tend to agree.
Back in the day, Tavoris Bell could have been eligible to play 2nd semester for the Elite 8
team.
He practiced with the team, but Harrick didn't want to mess with the team chemistry.
I think he was right.

Its not going to happen, but if he could play now, they wouldn't stash this kid. I dont what you guys understand about this. He is elite talent and if Dan took and chance on him, do really think he would keep him on tbe bench to "get up to speed?" You guys are still in the CFL mindset.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
The only player in my 97 years of following this team,
than came in and played after a semester began, was Irv Chatman,
who was a mid season transfer.
For some reason, he didn't get to play until the last month or so of
the season.
As highly touted as Irv was, it was a huge WTF watching him trying to blend into
an established team.
While there is an outside chance of getting Iverson eligible this season,
he'd likely only see spot duty.
Dan always said, "I don't want some wild man coming in here and doing
thing his own way, and messing up what we're trying to build."
Iverson is a major talent, with some major work to be done with by
the staff, to get his head and game to where he can become a significant
contributor at URI.

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
Huh? My take is this: If Iverson was being courted by several other teams, why would he come here, become eligible right away, and be told he was going to sit anyway?
I think he would have gone elsewhere if so. If he's eligible, I think Dan's told him he will get a shot at minutes this season.
No guarantees though. Dan wouldn't do that sort of thing. It's up to the player. He's got to put in the work in practice to earn time in the games.

If he can play this year, immediately, that must mean he would have two full years starting next year......I would be more interested in seeing him start next year fresh.....a lot depends on what he shows in practice starting tomorrow.....
....if his skill set is still at a high level he could be a piece to make us a threat in the A-10 tournament....and that is our only route to the NCAA tournament.....

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe not an established program, but it is an established team, which has busted its collective ass since the end of last season.BornNBred33 wrote:This is not an established team, just saying.
It has a chemistry, a known "we know each other" factor, because of a "we've been in it together mentality," which at this point no one -- players and coaches -- want screwed-up. They've been through that twice -- with the same player, and once with another guy who wouldn't listen to reason.
This isn't a playground situation and we've got next.
Just saying.

Irv Chatman had no offensive game, which = WTF, which = no hands, no footwork, no innate court-sense. He wasn't ready. By the end of his career here, he was ready to really begin it…...
As much as I dislike AAU-ball, he's one guy who would have benefitted from playing against other people from around the country; also, he would have been a beneficiary of the N.E. prep school scene.
Very nice young man…

Re: '13 CT F Kuran Iverson (URI Commit)
I find it hard to believe he would get a waiver. What other players have received this kind of waiver? Ohio supposedly applied for one for Kenny Kaminski to not have to sit out since he was kicked off of Michigan State, but he was denied and is sitting out. Maybe there's some strange detail we don't know about but when has the NCAA gone out on a limb for a player at a non-super power program?
