Anim's AAU team just played at Peach Jam. They're going to get one of these wing-types; I'm interested in seeing who it shakes out to be.

ESPN Analyst
Updated 05/27/2014

Strengths:
Amin is a long wing that is a good athlete. He excels by getting to the rim on the break. In the halfcourt he is a terrific slasher with a good first step. Amin attacks defenders off the dribble and can finish by beating them to the rim or slithering in between defenders to complete plays. He is good rebounder that can also push the ball and is a threat to go coast to coast if not brought under control. He is also a capable multiple position defender because of his consistent energy and effort to go along with his athleticism.

Weaknesses:
Amin will need to continue to add strength in addition to honing his ball handling and working to make his perimeter shooting a more consistent weapon.

Bottom Line:
Amin is a terrific slasher that can make plays from anywhere on the floor off the bounce. He is a good athlete that can defend both wing positions. Continued skill development will aid in making an already productive wing much more productive. Amin has excellent potential.

Not a combo guard, more like a 6'4"/6'5" SG/SF. A wing type player is a need.

Anim had 35 points against Gary Trent Jr's Apple Valley team.
Anim is #15.

Hahaha this could be a LONG spring recruiting season if the discussion about any prospect shorter than 6'9" is "Don't need him."

That said, I hope Anim is a really good defender, because while he's good going to the basket, I REALLY don't like the form on his jumper.

We have Thompson. We have Butts. A 2-3 and a 3-4.
We need at least one big.
So any talk about anything else will bring the same response from me.
WE DON'T NEED HIM!

Its not a black and white issue Rod, you recruit talent so you have options, options are good in life. I am sure the staff knows what they need and is aware that Gil graduates in May. I would prefer we trust that, instead of crapping on any recruiting post about a kid below 6'9. I for one really enjoy the recruiting section of this site b/c it has a ton of info thru social media that we never knew about in the past. really would hate to have every thread end up in a pissing contest over who you think we need and dont need.

We have two scholarships. If you think every
player, who isn't even remotely connected with us, regardless of position and needs,
should be an option, then don't read my posts.
People gushing over some player who doesn't fit, or isn't even
being recruited, because of some video.
Most videos make everyone look like Michael Jordan.
Bottom line, what anyone here thinks, means shit, because we don't
have any control over who URI recruits and eventually brings in.
It's a discussion board.
My opinions, positive or negative, of anyone mentioned on this site are as valid and anyone else's.

Even if we don't end up being deeply involved it can be fun to have these threads in the archives down the road in case we hear of them again.

Hell, yes! I love the whole recruiting scene.
My AAU circuit chasing days, and subscribing to recruiting sites,
are over, but I still have some contacts and enjoy following the dance that recruiting is.
One thing is separating the reality from the rumors or misinformation,
which social media also brings, along with their information.
It can be a frustrating, dirty game, but one that has to be played for any
program to succeed.

Not one person gushed about this recruit, no one even said a word besides copy/pasting the ESPN summary except you saying we dont need him. If that dissuades a URI fan from posting another thread that some of us may still find interesting regardless of that recruit's height then its a loss for the board. Yes everyone is entitled to a right to speak, no one is trying to change that. What if EC goes pro and Biggie decides to play out his final year somewhere he can be the star (mid-lower level program)...would we then possibly need another slasher/scoring guard? Truth is no one knows what will happen in 2-3-4 months and a good staff has their hands on prospects at all positions, regardless of the present day make up of the team.

You replace EC with a guy who is rated and someone good schools are chasing.
Go over to the Tyler Kohl thread and tell me about anything negative that I said.
If Biggie left, you'd have enough notice to be able to cover his position. You also have
current players, who could step up and take his role.
Hurley communicates with his players. I don't expect many Jordan Hare surprises.

Rod, your passion cracks me up sometimes. Last year at this time you were complaining that Hurley and staff didn't have enough irons in the fire and weren't prepared when Garrett and Terrell didn't look like they were coming here. Now you're complaining that they might have too many irons in the fire?

So, I make you laugh? Am I here to amuse you? You think I'm funny? What do you mean ,funny?
By the way, in the interest of reality, if Garrett and Terrell
didn't sign, we were screwed.
As for these players on this site, how many are we actually
recruiting?
Get back to me if you know.

I'm not convinced Butler and/or Reischel are here next year. Might as wll be prepared for such a scenario... While still recruiting bigs.

What about Iffy? If he's ever going to play, he probably has to drop to a lesser conference. Even with our lack of depth with bigs, he can't see the floor. I just don't think he has enough basketball skills to play at this level. Hopefully I'm wrong. We could use a guy with his bulk.

You still need end of the bench guys. That's what those 3 should be. Although damn it, Butler can shoot it, he needs to take his shot when he's open out there.

We don't have anybody else who can hit the side of a barn. Man, I hope Thompson will help us.

Does anybody think Dan will jettison any of them? We need some more quality depth for sure.

Coaches have a way of greasing the skids, if they want to.
Real simple. "You can stay here, but you aren't going to ever play much",
would get most people with any ambition to leave a school.
Players see who's coming in. They know if they aren't playing much, they'll be
invisible next year.
All programs do it. It's a reality. It's part of why every year, a transfer record is set.
Clashes of ego vs. reality.

Well sure. We refer to that as being "counseled out of the program," but that's different from being essentially kicked out.

I was thinking the same thing about a couple of guys possibly being gone next year. I certainly trust Dan and the staff in their recruiting tactics. Obviously they understand we need a big guy. I realize that all these videos made of prospects make them look like NBA all stars, but this kid looks interesting. Definitely a good athlete, well built. Would seem to fit Dan's type of player. I had read somewhere that Wisconsin was also involved with him at some level. That is if we are even truly recruiting Anim.
