I like seeing us being the first to offer like this.
Wheeler is transferring in to St Andrews from Trinity Catholic HS in Stamford Connecticut.
I thought he was Class of 2016 but sounds like he is reclassifiying if he is truly 2017 now.

Very good upside for this kid, long arms, could grow taller, good shooting ability. Will be interesting to watch him at St Andrew's this year.

Trinity Catholic is in Stamford Ct..............It is a small school not playing in one of Connecticut's higher level conference. St. Andrews will be a step up in competition.

A player named Wheeler from CT? That has been gold for URI in the past.

NE Playaz 2017 wing Aaron Wheeler is a nice looking prospect. Good shooter with size at 6'5. URI has already offered. #UAAFinals

From the Projo article on Dowtin's verbal-

The Rams can now turn their focus to 2017 and beyond, where perimeter scoring figures to be a primary area of focus. URI has been keeping tabs on St. Andrew’s wing Aaron Wheeler among others, watching the athletic 6-foot-5 junior last week during an open gym session at the Barrington prep school.

I played against Bonzie Colson there before he went to ND. I thought "hey, URI isn't missing out on much."

I was wrong on that one. I am a poor judge of high school talent.

Here's hoping that having Andre Berry in the fold may lead to a strong St. Andrews connection....

The St. Andrew's kid we should be recruiting is Cole Swider from Portsmouth. I've seen Wheeler play and wasn't that impressed.

I admit I've only seen him play once. He could have just been having a bad night. Swider is a sophomore and has already been offered by BC....and he's from RI.

Swider's going to be the best player from that St. Andrew's team. Not sure why we're not on him yet.

I'm pretty sure Swider wasn't at the URI game unless he has a twin. I saw him at a high school game that his old high school team was playing (my hometown).

The University of Virginia was in Rhode Island wednesday watching sophomore Cole Swider and junior Aaron Wheeler as St. Andrew's opened the post-season with a quarterfinal win over Tilton. A day later, Swider and Wheeler were both on Rhode Island's campus for their game against UMass.

Swider was definitely at CCRI last night watching Portsmouth play. He was not at URI. I saw him. Anyway, he's at least 6'6" now and only a sophomore. If he was still at Portsmouth with Herren, they would breeze through this state tourney.

I did see Wheeler come in about half way through the first half last night with three other guys, none of the others appeared to be as tall as Wheeler so probably not Swider.

As for Aaron Wheeler, he's a 6-foot-7, 180-pound forward from Stamford, Connecticut. He attends St. Andrew's School.
"Coach Hopkins was at one of our practices a few weeks ago," Wheeler told CuseNation.com.
"He said he liked my game and felt it fit well with their system. He also said he would keep in touch. They want to see me play more in the spring.'
Wheeler will run with the Mass Rivals this summer on the adidas circuit.
Aaron described his game for those who have yet to see him play, "I'm a pretty good athlete who tries to use athleticism to get to the basket," he said. "I can also known down the three ball and have a pretty handle, but it's still something I need to work on. On the defensive end, I'm a pretty good rebounder and play the passing lanes well. I can also block shots."
He has offers from Providence, Rhode Island and Duquesne with interest from Kansas, Notre Dame, Xavier, Villanova, Texas, Syracuse, among others.
Wheeler already has a connection to 7-foot-2 transfer center Paschal Chukwu, which makes him more interested in SU.
"I think I would visit to see how I like it. I feel like it would be a good fit for me," he told CuseNation.com. "I know Paschal [Chukwu], so that would be fun, maybe even playing with him there, too. He played with my brother for a year at Trinity, so we know his host family really well."

Yup, no! Cole was not there. Aaron Wheeler was with Eric D'Aguano (or however you spell it) who's he's teammate from St Andrews... Again you people know nothing yet are overly confident that you do... Unreal!

Those who think they know a great amount when it comes to recruiting don't know jack. Cole wasn't at the game. Neither was Mazzulla after speaking with his HS coach...

I was going to say the same thing. The fact that he'd look at St. Joe's and LaSalle makes me think we might have cooled on him as opposed to the reverse, but obviously you never know.
