'15 VA PF Leroy Butts

Size is nice - but I think this team would be awesome and have maybe 2 losses this season if we had better shooters. We play D extremely well, Hass is a beast in the paint, for the most part we rebound well especially given our lack of height. Improved perimeter shooting and we are an elite team.

Part of the reason I thought this team would be better than they have been is we thought JG and even JT would bring some outside perimeter scoring. If Thompson/butts can bring in some more scoring from the wings we are in good shape. Add Iverson to the mix I am even more excited. For my two cents, keep rolling out the four guard offense DH just add in some better shooters.

It's interesting that we are primarily a 4 guard team and those styles usually revolve around the guards being hard to defend.

Us? We have 4 guards most of the game and were just able to suffocate others. I personally think we have good size/rebounding/strength with EC, JT, and TJ. They kind of bully other guards.

I hope Iverson is signed sealed and delivered.

But the question will persist, why does it seem so many lesser programs have more height? Like guys we dream about, you know a guy that is 6'9+ and can tie his shoes. Finish a plate of food.

I notice that too. A lot of mid majors in the Midwest and the west seem to have a lot of big guys.

Butts played 28 minutes in the 93-90 win, started the game as usual
2-2 FT
5-9 FG

Butts played against Danjel Purifoy who URI was involved with at one time. Purifoy selected Auburn
The 6'7" Purifoy is ranked #71 ESPN. He had 11 rebounds and 18 points in 39 minutes for Hargrave.

I think many may be possibly over looking Butts and his potential impact and how good of a recruit he is. Dan and staff remain high on Leroy. Hopefully he'll be a very pleasant surprise. Nice to see 28 mins played.

I think the height discrepancy between us and Mid-West mid-majors is that they just grow 'em bigger out there. I have no evidence to back it up, but I would bet these bigs on other programs were home grown products.

There is not much of a rhyme or reason to where our current roster is from. I think we top out at 2 from michigan. 2 from Europe? 2 being the key #.

Could we end up at 2+ from expressions elite?

Obviously ______, but that would mean we had that Midwest height.

I just want to pronounce his name correctly, have not heard it said aloud (but maybe it was previously mentioned somewhere?). Is it "LEE-roy" or "La-roy"?

Just let it ride out. If the staff wanted the public to know anything about Butts or any other player, they'd either tell you or get the information out another way.

I don't know this to be fact, but heard he was arrested 2 weeks after he got here. Again, no proof, just what I heard.

Come August 31, he'll either be part of the URI Student Directory or he won't. Or, his name will surface on some Basketball Blog reporting that he's doing an extra year at some prep school or has enrolled at Johnny Johnson J.C.
Then McNamara will declare that it's a disaster on a par with Chubaka leaving PC.

I remember when we didn't get upset about losing recruits until after the fall signing period. If we don't get some size by then, I'll be worried. This waiting for spring doesn't cut anymore.

There's a chance we'll have 4 openings for 2016.

That's if Butts doesn't play for us. If that happens, I doubt they will fill his spot with a one year rental this late in the game. Even if they did that, that's still 4 for 2016.....

Of course, they have to start with one........some day

And there it is. Some players practice before they're eligible, but they didn't want to take that chance- for him or themselves.
