'16 MD SF CJ Keyser (Offer)

Unread post by Bos8 »

Heard we are getting involved with another Maryland kid. He is a 2015 athletic 6'4 combo guard named CJ Keyser who is athletic and can get to the rim. Plays for Patterson Mill who went to the state semi finals, losing to the team that Quadree Smith's team beat in the championship. Heard he has a lot of interest from other schools like St. Joes, Temple, and Towson. Got to imagine Murray is the one taking the lead on this kid as well.
Edit- Reports say we have offered him.

didn't think Murray would be involved with any '14s since he wasn't here long enough to get in with recruits. Also don't think Carr is a recruiter more of a player development assistant

It sounds like he's more of a combo guard; he's getting some minutes at the point for his AAU team.

After CJ takes a tour of the PC campus, his first question will be when do I see the rest of the campus.

Twits over there are saying no player could possibly be
interested in URI.
Gee, wonder if they spoke to Jared Terrell lately?
Don't get this player. He kind of overlaps EC and Terrell,
and at 6'4", he's not the size you'd want for a swingman.

At URI, Keyser’s versatility would be critical with his ability to blend in with E.C. Matthews, Jarvis Garrett, and Jared Terrell as head coach Danny Hurley could have the luxury of playing any of the three at any one time.

Keyser spent time with both Hurley as well as assistant coach Luke Murray this weekend and was said to have left excited about the direction the Rams are heading and all of the young talent that Hurley has brought into the program.

Anyone thought that a 6'4" SF who can't shoot may mot be
exactly Terance Mann territory?

From Finkeltein (Insider article), reporting from the Hoop Group event in the Philly area (Murray was there):

Best Combo-Guard Prospect

C.J. Keyser – Mid Atlantic Select: The 6-3 guard played primarily on the wing at the high school level but has had the ball in his hands since AAU season came around. He’s not a true point guard just yet but he’s comfortable with the ball and an efficient passer when he keeps it simple. Keyser also has good size and length on the perimeter to go along with high level athleticism to play well above the rim. He’s a highlight waiting to happen in transition, a good creator off the bounce, and equally dangerous in the mid-range game. Combine that with his ability to defend multiple positions on the perimeter and he’s a consistent 3-point shot away from being one of the most versatile guards around.

I'm not so sure Terrance Mann is in Terrance Mann territory.

Mostly just my mistake I think. I was under the impression that he was the "Mann" in New England(far and away top wing/back court player).

He's obviously in contention for the top guy and the difference between most players is often splitting hairs.

I am wondering why he is dropping in rankings when he is playing( not a situation like Hare who basically quit AAU) or the situation of the "mid major" curse( where they drop a player because he is favoring a school not BCS related).

Nonetheless, if we get him we would be in the stratosphere we couldn't imagine a few years ago. Hope we do.

Keyser has transcendent athleticism IMHO. No better guy to develop that than DH?

I wonder if since Mann's mom is now WBB coach at URI,
that some are thinking he may wind up here, and for that,
are driving his rankings down?
We have enough guards, without taking on a project.
We nneed another big, who can score, and a real swingman.

That's a lot of steps to take and seems very unlikely to me.

I think it's because he has the "glue guy" tag.

Scorer, rebounder, shot blocker, height, point guard, scouts like to point to 1 or 2 of these things and say a guy is great.

Scouts don't like to think too much about a guy. Maybe his varied skills are too much to accurately place him without too much time.

C.J. Keyser has moved to the class of 2016.
Maryland native C.J. Keyser looks to be making the most of his move to Bel Aire (Kan.) Sunrise Christian. The 6-foot-4 wing has added strength and even more explosion to his game. He's gotten better with the ball and looks to be on his way to developing into a high-major prospect. Keyser informed Rivals.com that he's actually going to extend his stay at Sunrise by taking a prep year and moving to the class of 2016. He already lists offers from Illinois State, Rhode Island, High Point, Western Kentucky, St. Joseph's, St. Bonaventure, Towson, Fordham, Monmouth, Quinnipiac, Marshall, Drexel, Boston U and UMass.
