Young Hallice is a popular guy at the moment. Good for him, he's earned it.
And let's not overlook the difference between working in one transfer and what had to happen here at the beginning.

There was no doubt that there would be a lot of interest. I like that URI and Rutgers are the only two close to home

Unless St. Joe's jumps in. They did sign a Euro PG who they're high on.

My guess is, the 2015's are on the back burner right now.
Full court press on for the 2014's.
What's nice, is there doesn't seem to be the all-or-nothing approach of last year. Many irons in the fire.

What's Aamans connection to Cooke aside from both being from NJ?

Read the Comments section. Not one follower of OSU hoops has a bad word about him. Rancid Milk's comment says it all.

URI would have no chance with that list if not for the Hurley connection. We'll see how much of a factor that is.

I hate playing the twitter game, but Hoigerg, Niang and others are recently following Cooke. Appears Iowa State is making a strong push at him.

Hoiberg inherited a solid if not spectacular program and has now had his full 4 years there to implement his system. He works the transfer/JUCO thing about as well as anyone.

Well, since we're playing the Twitter guessing game, his picture on
his account shows him holding a baby.
If it's his, and it's from NJ, maybe he'd like to be closer to home?
IF that's the case, ISU would be a factor, no matter how much they want him.

Was Cooke still considering trying for a hardship waiver to be eligible to play next year, by moving closer to home? Would have to think that that would be out of the question if he went to ISU...

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
I never understood the hardship waiver. You have a hardship so bad that you need to make sure you are on the court in November? Take the year, get family/academics in order, and then finish your career strong.
I also think Iowa State is a major threat. Loved watching the mayor as a player. Heard him interviewed recently. Very impressive. NBA pedigree as a player and in the front office. If he stays at Iowa State (I think he is from Aames so he might) he could build something pretty big.

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
It really is amazing. I mean....Iowa State? Of all the big conference programs, that seems like it would be the least likely to ever be good. I can't imagine trying to convince a person from anywhere that they should go to college at Iowa State. What is the angle? "We exist"? "We are far from any distractions"? Building that program from nothing is like building Las Vegas out if the desert.

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
That's interesting if Cooke doesn't give URI a visit. The bottom-line has nothing to do with Dan Hurley, but Bob Hurley, Sr. It would be a a sign of disrespect if he wouldn't give his former coach, a Hall-of-Famer, the courtesy of visiting his son.

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
We never really recruited him. He never visited here.
Staff chased Josh Brown, not Cooke.
The idea that Bob Sr. is going to erase this seems a stretch.
I'd be surprised if he has URI on his revised list.
Hope I'm wrong.

Agree with Rod on this. If there was no preestablished relationship then I think it is presumptuous to assume Bob Hurley Sr would or could "force" Cooke to be interested in us.

If going to an NCAA is his goal, ISU has just a bit better program than we do.

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
My point is that it is out of respect, not "forcing" anyone to do anything. Yes, it seems sort of old-fashioned, but it does have a Jersey-feel to it……Perhaps, older posters will understand what I mean….Then again, Hallice Cooke is not an older poster!

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
Just because we did not pursue hard does not mean there was no interest. Our needs at guard have changed.
I think DH probably is now realizing to just screw it with traditions lineups and get as many good guards with size as you can. The SF position is significantly harder to fill with a player who has handle and can score than a combo guard. I think we were close to success running three guards last year a lot of the time but TJ cannot play 25+ mins a game and we barely ever had a true PG on the floor one MP left and biggie got hurt.

Re: '13 NJ SG Hallice Cooke
It just goes to show you that, outside of the blue bloods, kids commit to a staff first and foremost. Maybe the conference plays a part in it, too. You could list the schools that have had success and wonder why anyone would go there. Richmond is a dump but Shaka Smart has got it going. Butler is in nowhere but Stevens had it going (and now their program has sort of turned back into the pumpkin). Gives you hope for Rhody. Just takes the right guy and mix of assistants.TruePoint wrote:It really is amazing. I mean....Iowa State?
