Wow! That kid looked great in the games I saw him.
Wonder how interested we'd be in a SG from St. Anthony's?
We didn't recruit him very hard.

Yeah the way he worded that tweet was a little confusing, almost like we were taking HIM on specifically. At first quick glance I misread it as well.

Cooke has nothing to do with Preston.
He's a St. Anthony's star, and a very good one.
Love to see us land him, transfer or not.
Just what we need. Smart kid, who can hit the 3,

Did Dan not recruit him last year because he thought he was all set at PG?

I believe he is a SG. I've never seen him listed at PG.

He had 23 points against Radford in the CBI in his last game. Shot 45.6% from three for the season.

Today's Oregonian article lists him as a PG but I've seen him listed as an SG also. He is a deep threat.

Not that it matters, but all of the sites have him listed as a SG. I'll go with that for the purposes of the title, but I'm sure he would be properly categorized as a combo guard.

I feel like we need Cooke to be a 6'6 swingman, for his size and skill, it seems like we already have that. Sans the shooting aspect.

Unless he doesn't mind the crowded backcourt.

EC starts benching 275 by his junior year. Hes not coming off the court. Looking at the biggest strongest SG in the A10 by then.

Garret is who we think he is and Biggie becomes consistent and healthy. Could be crowded.

Also the mild controversy that is Matt Butler. I hate James Harden's game, but Butler seems to play like him. He controls his pace and seems unactive but speeds up and is deceptive. Plus he has the outside shot. I wouldn't write him off because that playing style is indicative of a high bball IQ. He also hasn't had anything negative about his character out there yet.

Still, Dayton played a bunch of guards in a big rotation, and teams do pull it off.

I believe he became the starting PG at Oregon State last year. Not sure where the SG comes from but I'm a big believer in Jameer Nelson/ Delonte West type interchangeable backcourts. He is definitely the real deal from seeing how he played last year against some good teams.

Butler plays like James Harden? Seriously?
Cooke is a talent. Period. You can play a three guard offense. Instead of recruiting a 2015 SG, here he is.
Becomes eligible the same time a 2015 recruit would. He'd have three years.
He's a St. Anthony's kid, meaning he's fundamentally sound, and plays defense.
He's a pure combo guard. Can play either position, which is great.
He's better today than Minnis. He was a starter as a freshman in the Pac 10.
I doubt you're going to get a better player, given our picture.
Robert Cooke, his father, is a nice guy.
Hallice is very far from home in Oregon, playing for a mediocre coach.
There's no hidden Holton type issues here.
If we can land him, I'd be very excited.

I second Rod's sentiment, this would be a huge get for us. The guy started as a freshmen for a 2 game below 500 PAC-12 squad, I'd take that all day compared to where we have been the past however amount of years now.

Think Big.
We have nothing to lose by going after him.
By that statement, we may as well not try to recruit anyone, because
any player worth his salt want to go to an NCAA.
Time for Dan to call his old man.

No, we should go after him. Did we make his final list when he came out of HS? I know we had interest in him. I just don't remember if he had any interest in us.

I think you have to assume we will be a bubble team next year on. He almost came here after high school. He is a st. Anthony's kid. How could you possible not think they're is at least a good chance he would come here? Some if you need Stuart whats his face from Saturday night live to start having a little more confidence.

We couldn't even get Sprewell away from WKU, or Arroyo Edwards from UTSA, or DeVaughn Purcell from Illinois State or Marqyell Jackson from UTEP, etc., etc. etc.....just a guess, but I think much better basketball schools than those will be after Cooke....and yes, I know Bob Sr. was his coach.

Here is his schools interested in high school. Just from the list you know this is a player with a pedigree.

https://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecr ... ge_choices

I am probably more optimistic about him than some of the other "fill an opening" guys that we have gotten depressed over. Maybe George Burns is alive and well and all of this is for a reason.

Fill this years need with a 5th year player and then ...

would not at all worry about a crowded back court, UConn seemed to do pretty good in the national champioship game with 2 point guards playing together and a third guard a lot of time. Really like the idea of two or maybe three breakdown guys at the end of the shot clock .

He's available…If you're Coach Hurley, you reach out to him AND the family, test the interest, and go from there. This program will be stuck in Gerbilville if it doesn't believe it can attain greatness.

I don't agree with this at all. Recruiting is about fit and relationships. I'm not saying he will definitely end up here, but I would give us a much better chance than with any of the guys you mentioned.

This would be a huge signing. We could be starting the 2015-2016 with a back-court of Garrett, Cooke, and EC. Obviously we're a ways away from that, but on paper I don't see another A10 backcourt that would be more skilled. Throw in Martin at the 4 and a formidable 5 (Hare, Watson, Gustys?) and we have a team that should be competing for an NCAA tournament appearance. With his addition, there's no reason we shouldn't be competing for a tournament appearance his sophomore year and have the most talented team we've had since 1999 his Senior season.

Hurley needs to get this done. Not only does Hallice have a year under his belt to get used to the speed of college basketball (Pac 12), but he will have a year to practice with the team and already knows what to expect from a Hurley system.

Need to get this done!!! This would immediately soften the blow of losing P Murph.

All I said was Butler plays slowly, The chief of that playing style today is Harden.....

When Harden was at ASU, I argued with my friend that went there that Will Daniels would destroy the whole Sun Devil team. I guess that didn't work out too much.

I'm excited to get Cooke if we can. Despite all the good things that would come with having him(shooting, proven player, etc)... I am most excited to get a St Anthony's guy. Maybe it could establish something there.

Still he is no EC to me.
