'14 MD SF - Therence Mayimba (George Mason Verbal)
Heard we are heavily involved with 6'6 wing therence mayimba from team takeover and st james high school in ms. Spent the last 3 years at montrose and tranaferred when the staff and most of the team left to go to st james after coach vetter retired. Most sites have him as a 3 star player.

Strong and long. Athletic and can get to and finish around the rim. Skills are still developing, but he is an outstanding defender.

Re: Therence mayimba
"Mayimba averaged 8.9 points as a starter for the Mustangs last season while Robinson averaged 5.5 points in a reserve role. In Mayimba, St. James inherits an athletic swingman with the length to lock down defenders and crash the boards as well as the range to knock down the open jump shot. These skills should provide a welcome complement to St. James senior forward Obi Enechionyia, who holds offers from Georgia Tech, Miami and Temple."
Almost entirely different set of schools supposedly recruiting him, on Rivals and ESPN.

Re: Therence mayimba
Well, from that tape, we know he can, run, jump, dunk, make layups.
Only showed a couple of outside shots, so it's hard to get a read on
how good a shot he has.
Wonder is staff is thinking Martin will grow, at only 17, and eventually be
a legitimate PF?

Re: Therence mayimba
Not any more. Coach Vetter stepped down at Montrose. Most of the players followed the assistant coach over to St. James high school, who is loaded. You would have a very athletic and versatile team throwing Mayimba, Martin and Mathews on the floor at the same time. You would need a shooter to keep defenses honest, but with the length and athleticism Coach Hurley would really be able to do somethings defensively.

Re: Therence mayimba
Watching that video I was thinking "Does he play in a league there dunks aren't allowed?" "Why can't this big guy dunk??" Then the "dunk time" second half of the video began and everything made more sense.

Re: Therence mayimba
Saint Louis also wants to get him in for a visit. Looks like the A-10 likes him with you guys, George Mason, and Saint Louis all really big on him.

I really like this kid. Was first guy off the bench for a good Team Takeover EYBL Team at Peach Jam this past July. He has very good upside potential and would love to see this potential be realized at URI

Re: Therence mayimba
I was worried about the lack of dunks also. But then the "dunk time."
how/where he holds the ball is similar to MJordan. Not enough looks to be confidant in that.
Looks good.
Shooter??? I believe Butler is hopefully the answer.

Re: Therence mayimba
I think it's evident that 2015 will be the class that staff brings in
the SG they need.
It's a loaded class, as opposed to this year.
With Hassan Martin going 230LBs. at 17 years old, he looks like Buruta's
successor at PF.
So, they can concentrate on SG, wings and depth next recruiting cycle.

Re: Therence mayimba
Mayimba reminds me a bit of Martin. Both guys have loads of potential. You could probably play both them them at once, especially as they become more skilled. His teammate Obi Encechionyi (SP) has committed to Temple.

Re: Therence mayimba
Different frame, though.
Martin has big back and shoulders and at 17, you figure he'll grow at least another inch.
Mayimba reminds me of a lot of those rangy wings that Temple
always seems to have. Looks like a naturally wiry type body.
Intriguing prospect, though. I hope we sign him.

He says he's deciding at the end of the month. We need to get him up here for a visit, maybe for Madness?

So maybe that stretch 4 we were looking for is actually already on the team?rodfromcranston wrote:I think it's evident that 2015 will be the class that staff brings in

Re: Therence mayimba
Very exciting times to say the least. I had definitely been more of the mindset that Hassan would be more of a role player right away and maybe take a little more time to develop and come on as a star in years 3 and 4. The latest news is certainly encouraging.rodfromcranston wrote:Could be, Adam!

Reportedly headed to George Mason, as expected. Cue angst and unrest. We hardly knew you, and you never even got your M fixed.

Re: Therence mayimba
Not sure of the answer, but other than Terrell, has anyone even officially
visited URI ?
Again, who have they really offered? Who knows?
Probably the 29 is incorrect, but it's got to easily
be in double figures.

This is worth repeating. They've brought in what? 11 guys in less than 2 years? There's nothing wrong.rodfromcranston wrote: Again, who have they really offered? Who knows?.
Finally playing games and winning will be good on all fronts.

Re: Therence mayimba
I agree with Ace. If they haven't visited, how much is the staff really looking at them?
I'm sure there will be questions asked at the Alpine event. Then everyone hopefully will feel better.

Re: '14 MD SF - Therence Mayimba (George Mason Verbal)
There were at least two recruits who had scheduled
visits, and declared elsewhere before even visiting URI.
I was getting stoked on the idea of this kid coming here.

There's no shame in losing out to George Mason for a Maryland kid. That's their home turf basically.rodfromcranston wrote:There were at least two recruits who had scheduled

Didn't say it was.
My point was, if we were really "heavily involved" with this kid,
we never even got him to visit before he chose.

Re: '14 MD SF - Therence Mayimba (George Mason Verbal)
That assumes that a school has all the power in deciding who visits. I'm sure Hurley loves a lot of guys who won't visit URI, that's doesn't mean URI isn't heavily involved or trying to be heavily involved. Not saying that happened in this case, just that it's hard to really know since coaches can't talk about unsigned prospects.rodfromcranston wrote:Didn't say it was.

If Hurley was in his gym in person trying to recruit him this late in the game with signing period a couple of weeks away, he was probably a pretty serious prospect.
Sometimes other schools just beat you. It happens to everyone. If you're not losing out on a bunch of guys, you're not aiming high enough. Hurley knows exactly what he's doing. Every school out there except for a select few loses out on way more prospects than they land. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Great point districtballer.....................while it is tough to "lose out" and have that feeling it's like dating, right? If you are afraid of being turned down a couple of things....you might not ever know how beautiful a girl you could have landed OR you just might get lucky and land the beautiful girl (beauty and the beast) that goes for you because of your personality. I like to see that URI is listed as involved with kids that are being recruited by Big 10, ACC, AAC, SEC level schools.................certainly has not been the case for the past 12 years. Aaaaahhhhhh it's bringing back memories of the Harrick years and the Jack Kraft years for that matter toodistrictballer wrote:Sometimes other schools just beat you. It happens to everyone.
