Re: '14 MA SF - Jermaine Samuels
This threw me through a loop. This kid is a 2017 not 2014. Can we change the thread title?

Wow, a 6-5 14-year-old. He may end up being 6-8 or 6-9.

http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1596849Samuels in the Spotlight
Known in middle school as an elite level prospect because of his athleticism, Jermaine Samuels has had to step in the spotlight of high school basketball slowly. The 2017 6-foot-6 small forward is playing for small Rivers School (MA) where receives a good education, and the pressure of being a top young prospect doesn't weigh on him to much. As he builds up his skill set and becomes better week by week, the expectations gradually increase but aren't to high for the freshman.
As he came into the national spotlight last year while playing U17 ball with Expressions Elite (MA), it was clear he had a shot at being one of the better players in the 2017 group. It is very early, however, and there is still a lot of improvement to be made.
Holding early offers from Boston College, Boston, Providence, Dartmouth, UConn, Rhode Island and Harvard, Samuels isn't distracted by the process. He wasn't expecting it at such an early age, though, and it blows him away. With an improving shot that wasn't falling on Saturday, he showed a good ability at spreading the floor, playing defense in the post, and attacking and finishing around the basket in transition. His on-ball defense needs improvement and his consistency as there are times he is out there, but his impact isn't felt.
As he has visited many schools already, Samuels will be at Boston College on Monday night as they face No. 2 Syracuse.

Re: '17 MA SF - Jermaine Samuels
I know recruiting 8th or 9th graders is popular nowadays, but how in the world is anybody going to know how they're going to be 4 years from now?
It's getting ridiculous.

Fresh off a big performance in Dallas, the versatility & constant improvement of 2017 Expressions (MA) SF Jermaine Samuels is evident. #EYBL

Although they played very well during their semifinal run, it was a certain famous fan who gained the 16U Expressions Elite squad a lot of attention throughout the day.
Sixers point guard Michael Carter-Williams, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, was at Competitive Edge for most of the day watching his younger brother, 2017 guard Marcus Zegarowski, playing up for Expressions.
However, it was another 2017 player that stood out on the court, as Jermaine Samuels played very well on the wing and was critical to his team’s success.
Samuels listed offers from UConn, Boston College, Boston University, Dartmouth, Providence, and Rhode Island, and while all are strong programs, he is focused on what he needs to do to expand his recruitment nationally.
“Just play harder, work on the weaknesses in my game, get my handle up,” he said. “Just do the things that make you a high-major player. That’s what I need to do, get back in the lab”
Samuels has already spent time on campus at UConn, Boston University, and Harvard, and was very impressed with each school. However, he said that UConn has stood out to him the most since they offered him before his freshman season.
“I was amazed,” he said. “Kevin Ollie, and then you see people like Shabazz and all the kids around there, you just look at them and you’re like ‘Wow, this is a school that I could potentially go to one day.’ You’ve got a great coach, and it was just amazing. It was overwhelming.”
While he admitted that the Sixers’ star has not come out to too many games, having Carter-Williams watching from the bleachers gives Samuels a bit of extra motivation to give his best effort.
“It seems like he’s really quiet, so he doesn’t really shout out, or come over and speak to you,” he explained. “But it’s pretty cool to just sit there and see an NBA star behind your back.” –Ari Rosenfeld

Delroy James is on campus today. Coincidence he's here while we've got these visitors?

I don't think we'd have a realistic shot at Samuels. He's ranked around #20 in the '17 class and now a 5 star in some rankings. Anyway, here's his most recent mixtape.

I doubt we're in on him anymore. Seems Villanova is the favorite.SmartyBarrett wrote:#46 on ESPN's latest Top 100.

Villanova has been the favorite for quite a while now and I believe he visited there again in the past week. I wouldn't be surprised to hear a commitment soon.Tom98 wrote:Stay positive people....we can get anyone needs to be the mentality. We have 2 possible nba players on our roster.

Re: '17 MA SF - Jermaine Samuels (Offer)
Even with Villanova is coming off a national championship, they still don't play in a power 5 conference. I think they have lost something like 5 conference games in 3 years so he isn't picking them due to the strength of their conference.
