Per Coast2Coast Hoops: St. Joe's, South Carolina, Houston, Rhode Island & UConn have called on 2014 Houston (TX) F Melvin Swift since he decommitted from Xavier.

I've watched him play before. Big time athlete. Isn't a face up 4 man, but can really run the floor and finish above the rim.

Re: 6'7" TEXAS PF MELVIN SWIFT
I read that he was a former top 50 recruit, but dropped totally out of the top 150...not sure why. The Xavier people claim that he did not decommit, but rather Xavier stopped recruiting him even though he had given them a verbal.

Interesting, Billyboy. I'm going to do some research,
and see what I find.
I know, Preston mentioned that they wanted someone who
could also shoot and handle the ball for their stretch 4.

Mostly old stuff on him. Verbaled as a junior, and he fell over 100 spots in the rankings. Can't find any reason why Xavier backed off. Fiilms show lots of dunks, but we've seen that from everyone who has a highlight film.
"The athletic junior is considered the 14th-best power forward by Scout.com and the 44th-best player in the 2014 class by Future150.com.
ESPN.com says of the 4-star prospect:
"Swift is a very athletic power forward who runs the floor like a deer and plays above the rim on all clear path and angles. Swift has good strength that allows him to finish through contact with touch and body control.
Swift is known for his dunking and athletic ability, and the young forward will have plenty of time to develop the rest of his game the next two years at Jack Yates High School. At only 190 pounds, he will also need to gain some weight before playing at the college level."
"hree-star power forward Melvin Swift will not be playing his college basketball at Xavier after all. The Houston (Tex) Yates standout committed to the Big East school before his junior season, but he will not be signing.
Sources with direct knowledge of the situation indicate that Xavier would no longer recruit Swift, and he would look for another school.
Due to family considerations it is likely that Swift will stay loser to his home in Texas.
An athletic 6-foot-7 power forward, Swift had an up and down summer on the AAU circuit with the Houston Defenders.
Now Swift will look for another school, and could still make a decision by the end of the fall signing period."

I saw where one Xavier fan/blogger/something thought that Swift would end up staying close to home for personal reasons. For whatever reason, and for whatever it's worth, he has dropped in the rankings.

Re: 6'7" TEXAS PF MELVIN SWIFT
There was one report that I had read last month that he is an "expectant father."
(Not to worry -- Show him some film clips of Dwight Tolliver's little girl as a cheerleader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

"Every season, college basketball has one or two teams that rise from dormancy to relevancy, squads that make long-awaited charges at the NCAA Tournament and become really fun storylines along the way."

Is everything in line academically? Is he going to qualify academically to play college ball? I'm not sure what the Big East's policy is regarding partial qualifiers or non-qualifiers.

I haven't finished reading the whole thread, but this has some information on what happened with Swift and Xavier.

OK, so his game didn't improve, he was having problems in the
classroom, and his tweets were demeaning to women.
Doesn't sound like a Hurley guy to me.
