I know that the old staff had shown interest in him before he reclassed. Big time athlete with a college ready body. Comes from a top AAU team that went undefeated and won two big tournaments in July.

Spotsylvania County resident Rashard Kelly injured an ankle at an AAU tournament with D.C. Assault recently in Las Vegas. But before Kelly’s setback, he made quite an impression on college coaches.

Kelly picked up scholarship offers following the tournament from 2013 Final Four participant Wichita State, plus Duquesne and Rhode Island.

Kelly, who now has 10 Division I offers, played for Massanutten Military Academy last season. He tentatively plans to enroll in Hargrave Military Academy as a postgraduate student for the upcoming school year. He said he’ll make a final decision on whether to enroll in Hargrave or commit to a college next week.

If he does head to Hargrave, the 6-foot-7 forward said he wants to choose a college by October.

He said the Shockers are recruiting him as a Class of 2014 prospect, and if he chooses Hargrave, he would visit the school next month.

there have been 25 offered who are going elsewhere.
We seem to be looking at jucos, little guards,
or undersized forwards.
Of course, who knows what's happening behind the scenes?

We've known when the staff has put the full-court press on for a recruit (Matthews, Martin, Terrell). Desperately, going after a guy just to sign a guy would be embarrasing to me. It would be nice to have something recruiting wise to be excited about but I still think we should wait to see how it plays out.

Once Terrell was off the board, I was hoping Kelly would have been the guy. I think this team needs a guy like Kelly. Athletic, defender, rebounder lunch pail type. Not sure what to make of 2014 now. Best available really just turns into a reach.

That role sounds a bit like Onyekaba, I think.

Very different from Onyekaba. Onyekaba is a post player. Kelly is a strong, athletic but undersized forward. Rashard can cover multiple spots, while Onyekaba will body up their post player.

I wasn't comparing Onyekaba to Kelly at all. I was comparing him to the role that was described (defender, rebounder, lunch pail type).
