Having seen him a few times, I think he can be a significant contributor.
He's the leading scorer and rebounder on one of the best AAU teams

How anyone can say he wouldn't eventually be a starter, is beyond me.
The kid has upped his game every year.
He's a smart player, with a high basketball IQ.
What's not to like?
When did we become Duke, that a kid like this isn't good enough
for our consideration?
That all makes sense. I was just checking to see how his father factored into his recruitment. Sounds like a big positive and a player with good upside.

Why? Nothing against Bonzie, but at this point, he's not as highly regarded as the 3 guys (including Onyekaba in this) that are coming in this season. Whether he ends up being a good match at URI is largely dependent on who, if anyone, is brought in to fill the two open spots this year.

* A guy that was fun to watch throughout the weekend was Bonzie Colson of BABC. A three-star combo forward, he's got the size of a wing at 6-foot-5 but plays much more of a power forward's game. He is tough around the basket, gets on the glass and plays with great energy. He'll be mid to upper mid level priority.

I would pass on this kid, I know hes skilled and his family has history but his HEIGHT will surely be a problem no matter how good. Unless hes DeJuan Blair, He wont do well in a high major school. Maybe he can prove me wrong but "over the back" calls don't exist with rebounds when the guy is 5 inches shorter. He will play against consistent 6'9 to 7'0 players every night.

Baloney! Ever see him play?
He can play. Period.
He's in the best AAU program around and is playing against other
high quality teams with people bigger than him.
Somehow he's BABC's leading scorer and rebounder.
Leo Papile was the head scout for the Boston Celtics, and he loves Colson's game.
I'll take Papile's opinion over those who never saw Colson play, any day.

In Dallas EYBL this past weekend Bonzie averaged 19 points per game to lead BABC as usual.
Next up will be Minnesota then on to the Peach Jam to play in front of all of the Top College Coaches in the premier EYBL Championship Event.
For Bonzie to be the leading scorer and talent on the BABC Team says a lot.
Definitely would be good to have him at URI.

The kid is what, 16 years old? He's probably still growing, so he'll gain another couple of inches, to 6'7" or so. That's big enough in my book.

I've never seen Colson play but from everything I have read he reminds me of Jeff Adrien who was undersized but had a very solid career at UConn. Without having seen him play, I think Colson could fit a similar role in college.

I would definitely like to see Colson in a URI uniform.

If for nothing else I'd like to see it happen so I may be able to enjoy the college career of both father and son, It also speaks volumes if a very talented son of a former Ram chooses to come to Rhody. Special things are about to happen for Rhody hoops, BCJ would be wise to attend free and play for Hurley.

Rhodymob05: What-the-frap are you writing about?!? "I would pass on this kid, I know hes skilled and his family has history but his HEIGHT will surely be a problem no matter how good. DO YOU THINK HE'S GOING TO PLAY CENTER?!?!? Hell, you wouldn't have had Tiny Archibald, Calvin Murphy, Spud Webb, Mugsy Bogues, Allen Iverson, et al., on your pick-up teams because they were too small?????
Connie Hawkins? Nah, screw him, he's too skinny!
Dave Cowens? Nah, he's too short to play center!
Ernie DiGregorio? Nah, too short, too slow, too much baby-fat!
Wes Unseld? Nah, too short to play center!
Willis Reed? Nah, screw the '69-'70 TRIPLE MVP SEASON!
Charles Barkley? Nah, too small to rebound over those big fellas!
With your contradictory logic, I'd be >
TALENTED IS TALENTED!!!!!!!!!!
THE KID HAS SKILLS!
THE KID IS A TALENT!

If I'm wrong I'm wrong. I appologize if I insulted anyone. You're right about those players and maybe its true that I don't know how good he is and can be. He wont play center but PF for sure (assuming he doesn't grow) he will still be shorter. How tall do you think the average PF is in the A10? Maybe 6'8 or 6'9 and he definitely wont be at the SF spot. I am under estimating this kid and I won't be throwing myself off the top section of the Ryan center if we get him but I will always be a little skeptical about his height. That is my opinion

The recruits are always hyped up. Every year we are getting guys in that are better than what we already have. I usually have not seen them play in person, so I just take it with a grain of salt and hope for the best. I always want to believe we are getting someone special, but I've seen Colson play and he is a college level talent. I am just unsure if he is a piece on a team that will make a Sweet 16.

Again, he is young and does a lot of things well. Hes over 6'5. Legacy. Hope we get him!

PF | Bonzie Colson | BABC
18.1 PPG, 56.4 FG%, 79.2 FT%, 6.6 RPG, 2.3 BPG
A typical power forward stands around 6-foot-8 or taller with long arms and peak physical strength. So listed at just 6-foot-6, Bonzie Colson doesn’t live up to your average measurements for a sound forward but that didn’t stop Colson from having a great season. Leading BABC in points (18.1) and rebounds per game (6.6), Colson bolstered the frontcourt all season long for this Peach Jam contender on both ends of the court. Colson also averaged 2.3 blocks per game, making him a fine candidate for the EYBL’s Most Valuable Player.

My vote goes to Tyus Jones - the kid is amazing. I saw him play last summer with rising Seniors and he was only a rising Junior.
Great recognition for Colson to even be mentioned with this group. I hope he comes to URI.

Terrell & Colson at Durant Skills Academy

June 29th, 2013
New England Recruiting Report

Jared Terrell and Bonzie Colson are both in Washington D.C. this weekend representing New England at Nike's Kevin Durant Skills Academy.

The Durant Skills Academy follows up on Nike's Big Man and Point Guard Skills Academies, which were held in New Jersey last week and hosted by the likes of Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Deron Williams.

Terrell and Colson are among the 33 players selected from across the country to participate in three days of skill development and training from the Nike staff, along with their counselors from college basketball.

Colson traveled south a day early in order to take unofficial visits to George Washington and Georgetown. Pittsburgh became the latest school to offer him last week joining the likes of Notre Dame, Iowa State, Seton Hall, and Florida State.

Terrell added offers from Kansas and Florida this spring to a long list that includes the likes of Cincinnati, Connecticut, Marquette, Miami, Providence, St. John's, Temple, and others.

He should go where he will be happiest........with his body type I don't see him in the NBA in the future.....unless he grows another 5 inches or so before his college days are over.....

...basketball should be secondary to his education and where he may want to live in the future.....

....if his future is in New England he should go to school in New England....

Hell, he might as well skip all of this and enroll at UMass-Dartmouth or RIC or Endicot or Biddy Basketball:? :o
