2014 BABC (MA) power forward Bonzie Colson always finds a way to get it done, whether it be on offense or defense, or in any situation. His effort is finally being noticed as his recruitment soared through the roof during the spring. His shot off the dribble is improving, along with his handle and leadership. Of the schools who have offered, he is hearing the most from Florida State, Notre Dame, Florida State, Rhode Island and Seton Hall. He is also hearing a lot from Butler, Arkansas, UConn, Miami, Georgetown and Alabama - whom are interested. The ideal system player, Colson feels comfortable playing in the high post. Georgetown, Florida State and UConn are schools who fit that mold in his opinion, and he hopes to set visits after July.

FWIW:

Per @CoachJayDemings BABC F Bonzie Colson is very much considering URI and that Bonzie had a great time on his official a few weeks back.

The visit was UNofficial, by the way.

I heard he's a lock if Preston stays.

I am a huge fan of Preston Murphy......I hope his next job is Head Coach at URI...I would be sad if he left for an assistants job at a bigger school or a head job at a smaller school.....

I've become a real fan of the man.
He needs some PR seasoning, but he knows the game, and
is very saavy.
Nobody know how a young coach would approach Xs and Os.
I could think of a lot worse options.
Time will tell.

He had a chance to move to a "bigger" school this offseason and declined. Who can know what will happen in the future? Timing is everything in life. But if we're putting bets on the next coach at URI I would think Preston would get a lot of wagers on him. Having said that, I hope it isn't an issue for a good while.

Preston's stock will only go higher, with the success this program is about to have in the very near future.

My guess, he'll wait a little longer, and land either a mid major head coaching position, or a top assistant's position at an ACC or the like school.

Either way, I think he made the right decision to stay, and maybe he'll end up the HC here at some point.

According to @MattWhitNBE, Reid Travis plans a Notre Dame official visit in fall to see a football game. Bonzie Colson also plans ND trip.

Kids that visit Notre Dame commit there. It's a great thing for me as a ND football fan. In this case, not super excited about Bonzie going there. That is one special campus, though, for anyone that hasn't visited it. And that is coming from someone who thinks URI has a great campus. I've visited some other campuses of supposedly good schools, and URI's campus crushes them. My fiancé went to Ithaca, and I went to see her campus (which she couldn't stop bragging about), and I was thoroughly unimpressed. It is fine, but URI is 20X nicer. Notre Dame is just on a whole other level entirely, though.

TP you are a ND zealot, so that should probably be included in full disclosure.

Do you have any data to support this claim that hoop players automatically commit to ND upon making an official visit? What do you guess the % is?

Ha no. I actually don't even like ND basketball. But yes, I'm a big ND football fan and being on that campus was as close as I've ever had to a religious experience.

As far as recruiting, I have no evidence of any kind about their basketball recruiting. I do follow the football recruiting closely, and in reality some kids do visit and don't commit, obviously. It is a special place, but it isn't for everyone. The problem is, if a kid DOES like it then it is basically over. It happens in football all the time that some kid's parents make him go see it before he commits to State U and the kid ends up just being blown away and commits when he wasn't even really considering it.

I don't think he is actually a small forward......more of an undersized power forward/center.....getting some great scholarship offers despite not being as tall as traditional for those positions....

After the game, Colson listed Miami (Fla.), Florida State, Butler, Notre Dame, Iowa State, UConn and Georgetown as schools which he is seriously considering at the moment.

The Rams are not currently a factor with St. Andrew’s forward Bonzie Colson Jr., even though his father was a star center at the school in the late 1980s. The 6-5 Colson has enjoyed a superb summer on the recruiting trail playing with the Boston Amateur Basketball Club and is hearing from Notre Dame, Florida State, Butler, Seton Hall, Iowa State and other schools. Michigan State, Connecticut and Georgetown are some of the latest schools to contact Colson.

Today's Projo Kevin Mac says Colson has narrowed to 9 schools.
The 6-5 forward is now considering Notre Dame, Miami, Pittsburgh, Temple, Minnesota, Connecticut, Georgetown, George Washington and Florida State.
Colson will visit Notre Dame, Miami and Pitt in the fall, likely during football weekends. He is allowed five official visits, per NCAA rules.

Not to sound like other people we know, but
I'm not sure how hard we recruited him.
His recruitment sure has blown up, though.
I'll be interested in watching his career to see if he continues to
overcome his lack of size at the next level.
I'm guessing he will succeed.

Nice Article in April 1, 2017 Projo by Bill Reynolds summarizing Bonzie's career at Notre Dame.

http://www.providencejournal.com/sports ... e-surprise

Bonzie made 1st Team ACC this year and he was named 3rd Team All America, only the 12th Notre Dame Basketball Player ever to be named to the All America Team. He is in some good company:
