.
This is no different than any business. An asset manager can be content managing $100,000 accounts and do OK. Or he can CREATE pipelines to higher net worth people. Not just work with what he has. A widget company can be content selling to mom and pop hardware stores. Or, he can hustle and create relationships with Lowes and HD. The relationships aren't there? Go make them. Don't know the AAU coach in Michigan now that PM is gone? Pick up the goddamn phone and call. Say "when can we meet" and go meet him. The Hurley name will get you in that door. Will it make a difference in 2015? Maybe not. What about 2017? 2019? This is such small scale, parochial thinking.

Agree 100% (full moon?) That's why I've been screaming for URI
to establish a relationship with BABC.
How can they be up the road and never once have we gotten
a single player from their program.
Seventeen AAU championships! Come on. Take an afternoon and
sit down with Leo Papile and see if you can work together.
Once you've establish a working realationship and know the people involved,
it makes it easier to recruit the now possible pipleline.
Bobby hired Nate Oates, EC's coach, to plumb the Detroit area. To me,
that's smart hiring.
You can't sit back and rely on dying NJ relationships to get where you need to go.

One thing I'm looking forward to is how hard Biggie is going to have to work. He is going to have to bust his ass to beat out Garrett. That is good for both of them and the team next year. I expect a horse race to begin the season.

I'd expect Biggie to start at the beginning of the season, and
Garrett to do what EC and Hassan did. Make it impossible to
not play him.

Billyboy, who was that? Did BABC even exist back then?
BABC makes so much sense. Why resist?

It started in the late 70s. John Evans and Herb Dixon played for them.

Just a reminder that the biggest need we had on last years team has been filled. We needed a point guard in the worst way and we got a really good one. Welcome Jarvis Garrett!

Yes, we have tended to forget that, in the midst of all this back and forth over Terrell and co.

Does he have any relationship with Jared? You think if he did, that it would help our cause.

This of course is true. But the true need for the 14 class based on X graduating and no one else was a SG. That's 2 years to recruit 1 player to fill that known void.

That's OK. We haven't had a center since Luther Clay.
We've needed a SG since we knew X was leaving and here we are,
over a year into the process and we have zero.
Let's do handstands because we filled another need.

Because they are good players and you aren't limited in the number of good players you can have on your team, or on how many guards you can have on the floor at one time? You obviously do everything you can to get guys like that; that doesn't make it the biggest need on the team.

It also wouldn't surprise me if URI played small in general, since it's easier to recruit three quality guards and two bigs, as opposed to the more traditional two guard, two forward and one center lineup. Even if they have three guards for two spots, if you assume the starters play 30 minutes each, it's probably better that a good combo guard picks up the additional 20 minutes available and you stagger the minutes between the three.

So, now they can look for a wing scorer-swingman type.
That's why I keep repeating, if Garrett comes here, it ultimately could be
better than if Terrell came here. It frees EC from having to run the team on a full
time basis, and allows him to hone his game.
How is this any different than what the others are saying?

Great. Now troll, do tell how long it took your
sick self to find that one?
Let me know when we got that wing scorer. Right?
Who'd we get? I must've missed it.
So scoring will have to come from a three guard offense.
Duh!

You need to settle down. Maybe take a break. You've also said Hassan is a 3 not a 4. You're running loose right now.

I don't have to do a damn thing, dope. It's just very funny you crushed people today for saying exactly what you said a few months ago. What's even funnier is you've been saying stuff about the staff that I said a year ago. But, that's a story for another day.

Whatever offense we run, we're obviously looking for a 2/3 combo guard/wing.

Somebody who can score from either position. We've got the 1/2 positions taken care of for now.

We do NOT have the 3 taken care of. TJ and Reischel are NOT the answer at that position. Hassan belongs closer to the hoop, with his size and defensive ability.

Staff is trying to get the best available out there.

Otherwise, what's the point of trying?

P.S. Dan DID say Hassan was a 3 back then. I think now, however, he looks at him more as a 4. If we don't get any of these guys, then he'll end up playing a little of both.

I've seen Hassan play, don't need people to tell me who is what anymore. Hassan's ceiling is like Paul millsap. I don't think he will reach this. Prob something more like L henton. Long guy maybe makes outside shots. Finishes. Rebounds. Defends. Great you can win with that.

It's obvious EC is the scoring guard in our line up. Main stay. With a rotation of biggie, Tj, JR, JG. If somebody distinguishes themselves minutes will get tighter.

If we got hare back, that would change our team's prospects. Not that he would dominate but he would help and probably tilt the game in our favor for 2-3 games.

Ec and Garrett will ideally create open 3's for each other and driving lanes.

Hope each player on the roster got better at something and we will be great. EC can now dribble? Gil can stay on the court? JR can not be awful? Biggie stay focused healthy?tj stay healthy? Hare show up in RI? Iffy offer minutes? Butler get on court? Garrett?

Martin is nothing like Henton. Henton is an undersized 4 with a nice shooting touch. Table scraps kind of guy. Martin plays above the rim, doesn't handle the ball well and is an above average defender in close, but has limited range. IMHO, he's a 4. Don't see the handle or the shot for a 3

Yet.
He's only 18 years old. He was 17 when the season began.
Frankly I don't understand how anyone can look at Hassan and
say, this or that is his ceiling, because nobody can say.
His young age and growing body are factors in how he ends up
as a player.

I don't disagree he has a very high ceiling. I just think his game is better suited in close, where his instincts and explosiveness are better suited

I don't know Sean - he showed near the end of the year that he could hit the 15 footer. I agree he probably needs to improve his handle but then we did not really see him try to play outside at all. He may have that ability but just didn't show it.

Disagree, disagree, disagree.
The first practice I saw Martin he took 20 three point shots and he hit 17. Most of them hit only net.
He has a nice release of the ball and also nice form on his Free Throws.
Big men adjust slower to the College and Pro game, but Martin is adjusting very fast especially the 2nd half of last year.

Freshmen year statistics can be deceiving.
What I saw in practice certainly convinced me that he can shoot the ball well.
Also disagree that he doesn't handle the ball well.

I like Henton's game, but given what I know of Martin after just one year I would take Martin over Henton. The ceiling for Martin is almost unlimited. His shooting in games this year will surprise a lot of people, as will his handle.

Absolutely don't forget him with all excitement over JT(and well deserved) .Saw him only once at RIC but loved what I saw. And watching video clips like him even more. Someone mentioned that Jarvis' clips were more impressive than JT. No need to compare they are both RAMS, extremely excited about both ,but would not surprise me at all if Jarvis has a more immediate impact. PG has historically been a more difficult position to step right into but its a different era. Kids today are much more advanced and will face very few experience teams. This guy has exceptional physical skills along with great pg instincts. Love both these guys coming in. DH has it going in great direction. Don't want to wish summer away but can't wait till October!

Takes a good amount of hard contact, and is still able to get to the basket/finish. Great looking jumper...having a PG who can run the offense and be a threat from long range is something we haven't had in a while!

Agree with this. Terrell is the better player, and freshmen point guards can struggle to make an impact. But with that being said, adding a guy who brings true pg skills- the ability to run the offense, see the floor, distribute the ball- elevates every part of this team.
