To answer uri_05, I grew up in Ansonia. Many in my family played football at Ansonia 60's-80's. I can't believe URI doesn't recruit football in the valley, although I see they snagged Matos from Ansonia. He played four positions, so his stats weren't the story.

URI no longer recruiting Desmond Williams, per Kevin McNamara.
Not sure where he turns next but CCRI's Desmond Williams is no longer being recruited by Rhode Island. Rams looking to add a shooter.

Just throwing shit against the wall here but Justin Edwards is transferring from Maine. He led the America East in scoring this past year, has 2 years of eligibility left. Maybe he could be a scorer to target?

OK, scratch Des Williams off our list.
I saw the piece on Edwards. Seems like a perfect fit when Munford leaves.
Not sure if Hurley has any connection with him.
He seems to only want transfers with familiarity.

Rod - why do you think Hurley backed off of Williams? I know there was some discussion/doubts about his shooting.

Re: '11 CT SG Desmond Williams JUCO
I think they really want a pure shooter.
Williams is a scorer, but not a shooter.
We don't have a knock down shooter, which
is needed to stretch the offense, which will be mostly
an inside game next year.

Williams pulled a Kaza Keane. Dan waits for no recruit.

Re: '11 CT SG Desmond Williams JUCO
Same thing sort of happened with John Severe.
If he'd signed on the weekend he was here with Martin,
everyone would have been happy.
Then staff decided he was too small for a SG at 6'1".
He visited places like Duquesne and St. Bonaventure.
As the season progressed, Severe's recruitment blew up.
He's a tremendous scorer. He was named NYC POY, and has high majors
looking at him, now.
Funny game, recruiting.
Bobby told me that they didn't think Keane was that good.
Looks like they made the right call, as Keane had a terrible season at
Illinois State.

May be why we backed off on him, after we seemed to like him.
With the APR problem, we couldn't afford a questionable student.

I think when we took Butler that was a signal that Williams wasn't an option. Maybe it was an academic issue, maybe they just liked Butler more. But either way, I don't think we would've taken both.
Good job on the link, bressler!

We dropped out of recruiting Williams long before we recruited Butler.

That may be true Rod, all I'm saying is that it ceased to matter when Butler signed.
