Have Onyekaba help recruit him to URI!
Kid's a four star recruit and 7'2".
We can dream, right?

i heard about a big kid we were targeting that we wanted to classify as a 2013 and red shirt, this could be him i guess. the rumors i heard were that we felt if he stayed 2014 we would have no shot.

That's the kind of creative recruiting that happens this time of year.

Rumor was, they tried to get Andrew Chrabacz, who went to Butler,
to try to reclassify to 2012 to enroll early.
He would have been a great get for URI. Local kid with talent.
After Onyekaba, I think this staff really thinks outside the box on
occasion.

Yeah, Andrew Chrabacz was one of Baron's fails. I happened to meet Cushing Academy's coach at my granddaughter's 3rd birthday party a few weeks ago. (Long story ...) He told me that Andrew was puzzled that virtually every A-10 program had offered him except URI .... Baron didn't seem interested until he made a last-ditch effort before he was fired. According to the Cushing coach, Chrabacz blew Baron off since he'd been ignored for so long by his state university. He did say that Hurley came on real strong when he was first hired, but that he'd already committed to Butler and didn't want to renege. I got the impression that if Hurley had been able to start a month or two sooner, he might have been ours.

Pass on chrabacz rod, I played against him last summer and wasnt impressed he is only about 6 4" at best. Put him on the inaccurate height list.

RG, look at the list of schools that offered Crabacz.
Brad Stevens doesn't bring in stiffs during fall signings.
Maybe he had a bad day when you played him?

That's not true, Hurley recruited Andrew before he committed to Butler and I had heard Andrew loved him. It is hard to turn down Butler. That said Baron should have been showing him more interest way earlier. And I've played with him too (even though I'm just about 40) and he is def not 6'4" lol ..solid 6'6" to 6'8" with great fundamentals...I hope he does well at Butler.

I just went by what his coach told me ..... I've never met Andrew. Maybe he misremembered or I misheard. The point of my story was how badly Baron missed on this opportunity.

Rhody guy what a terrible evaluation; maybe you were thinking of Andrews cousin. know him, played ball with him many times. diff articles have him as tall as 6'9 now but in reality he stands a hair over 6'7 WITHOUT shoes on. Comes from a bball family, his dad carl who is 6'9 played at penn state. Used to go watch the st. marks games all the time and seen chrabascz with cushing a couple times. Duke has Alex Murphy listed at 6'10 and Andrew looked just as tall when they would matchup down low. Only diff was Andrew outweighed alex by 30 pounds at least and moved him around the block. actually heres a picture of the two of them; http://www.newportri.com/features/sport ... 3ce6c.html

The other two pictures are of him battling with kaleb tarczewski; who is a legit 7 footer maybe bigger. doesn't seem too much smaller although they are live action shots.

Bottom line, if you think hes 6'4 then Onyekaba is 6'2, Jordan is 6'7 and Hassan will show up on campus at a mere 5'11. and fyi don't judge D-1 players based off of pickup games, Alex played on my Gansett summer league squad 2 yrs ago and averaged prob 4 pts 4 rebs a game against nobody taller than 6'4. they aren't gonna go all out and get hurt just so their high school buddies can have bragging rights about a win. they got futures to think of.

Andrew is shorter than me, Onyekaba is taller than me...better? TO I simply don't think Andrew is as good as everyone thinks and know that he is shorter if that makes me a hater then sure I'm a hater. He was brought up so I gave my opinion back to chuckwu would be great addition, what are odds he would reclassify and red shirt?

RG,

respectfully as always, you are either awful at assessing height or you are overrating your height like stan okoye and chris evans combined. regardless you're information is incorrect and i stand with atp in saying it sounds like sour grapes.

Andrew has been over 6'6 since he was a 14 yr old freshman at portsmouth. r u sure you arent thinking of his cousin? in my opinion anybody that is being recruited by brad stevens would be a welcome addition on our squad especially somebody from rhode island. we have had a large influx of talent in the state the past 10 yrs; and i have faith that DH will begin to tap into that well once again. nothing like rooting for the hometown kid on the hometown team and chrabascz can play, period.

If youre taller then him and clearly by youre evaluation of andrews skills, you must be better than him; then why the hell arent you out there on the block holding down the paint for us?

all in jest as always but in regards to chukwu, cant teach height indeed but we all have to keep in mind that 7+ footers are a crapshoot always. theres a certain URI 7'3 200 pounder that was supposed to have super athleticism due to his soccer skills that comes to mind......

CBC big man Paschal Chukwu was been another popular name with college coaches this weekend. He was watched by new Rutgers head coach Eddie Jordan and UMass head coach Derek Kellogg on Friday night, along with assistants from Georgetown and Rhode Island. That list only continued to grow on Saturday with coaches from Providence and others.

Cordischi is such a hack, the article associated that was such a recycled POS garbage, and he couldn't even do that right (See: "Many believed that his hometown Huskies and PC were his top two choices and that he favored Providence.") Hey Scott, even if you couldn't figure it out by yourself, every major recruiting analyst had PC and St. Joe's as Final 2. Was St. Joes not "sexy" enough for you? Must be hard to do research for that online POS GoLocal promote ourselves crap they have as their personal platform to spew agendas. I may be a PC fan, but I hate that BS as much as the next one. It's not just him, like I said before, love John Rooke the person, but literary integrity isn't something they value over there. It's all about creating hype to force page views.

Nice player to get for PC.
I think it's just chortling, because the
kid is going to a school that he didn't get their nickname right.
He did it twice, which says that Frier is what he thinks the word is.
Who cares? They're even making a joke of it on your board.
What's Big O getting whacked a year of eligibility got to do with this?

I saw him play three times last year....Cooley probably has had an association with him from his Fairfield days.

Vedder's size, but more like Hare's quickness for comparison sake. Like a lot of young players this size, more upper body quickness than footspeed. I would compare him to Hare last year. In the CT state playoffs last year, he did not outplay other 6-7, 6-8 post players, except for blocks.
It should be interesting to watch if the PC staff can develope him.

Agree with that assessment. I feel like a lot of people see "Top 100" and think "Instant Impact," but especially with big men that is rarely the case. Despite being a Top 75 recruit, he is still very much a project. If he comes in his freshman year and gives you 15-20 mpg at 5 ppg, 5 rpg, and 2.5 bpg, that should be considered a success. You won't see much on offense besides alley-oops and uncontested dunks/layups, and on defense you will see a lot of blocks but not always the best fundamentals. That said, you hope by his junior year he's the type of guy whose close to a double-double with 3.5 or 4 blocks a night.
