Wasn't Jordan Hare a 4* out of high school? If so we could have a lineup of three 4*'s and two 3*'s. Next year the recruiting will be a bit tougher though. Can't sell playing time. Have to sell the program.

Especially at guard. I think we could sell playing time to a good 4/5 as part of a rotation, which would be Gil's minutes this year.theblueram wrote:Wasn't Jordan Hare a 4* out of high school? I'm too young to remember how the local media treated URI when they made their elite 8 run. You would think it would dominate the headlines... I'm guessing that wasn't the case?

Re: '14 MA SG Jared Terrell (URI Commit)
We got very good local coverage when went to the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8.
Where we got screwed in 1998 was when we played Valpo, and all Al McGuire talked about
all game long was Bryce Drew.
Only when it became obvious that Rhody had the win, did he bother talking about us.
I'm told McGuire apologized to some Ram fans, saying CBS wanted him to
play up Valpo.
Now, when we went to the Sweet 16 in 1988. that was a different story.
The national media loved us. Tommy Garrick's blind father got lots of play
throughout the tournament. Penders blowing kisses to people in the stands,
was often showed on the pregame shows.
In 1978, our best team by far, when we played Duke, our guys had serious attitude.
They played with their shirts untucked. Billy Packer called us a "ghetto team".
Imagine saying that now?
In 1978, the RI State Legislature voted congratulations to PC, before they played us
in the ECACs.
We had the last laugh, when we beat PC for the second time that year.

Is that Jared Terrell stealing the ball from Jarvis Garrett at about the 2:13 mark?

This article has good quotes from Dan, as well as Jared's HS and AAU coaches. Boswell's comments were particularly encouraging with respect to getting more Expressions kids in the future.

Great acquisition by Dan Hurley. We can all be thankful for the classy way in which Travis Ford handled the JT's LOI release. Ford could have gone the déclassé route that PC took with Joe Young and kept Jared grounded for a year. But then again hypocrisy is part of the PC DNA.

Re: '14 MA SG Jared Terrell (URI Commit)
Haha great catch, STC! Hadn't noticed that before, it certainly does look like Jarvis. In Jarvis' defense, the way it played out it looked like a bad pass, and nothing that JG did wrong. Pass must've been either telegraphed or slow. In any case, from several accounts JT is a strong perimeter defender, which we could certainly use. He's definitely got all the tools for it.STC wrote:

Hopefully Jarvis doesn't get offended by Dan's last comment in that article, that Terrell will be one of the best freshman guards in the country as was EC last year.
I think he'll be pretty good himself.
Maybe JT will be ROY, and Jarvis makes all rookie team, just like EC and Hassan last year.

Re: '14 MA SG Jared Terrell (URI Commit)
The little slap in the Projo article bothered me as well. I seem to remember recently reading a Golocal article about a guard PC is either recruiting or signed, and they made a statement something to the affect that he is not in the "highly political Top 100"...as though saying that if it wasn't for politics he would be. That may be the case, but I assume that is speculation and not a fact.
Remember last year when EC fell out of the Top 100, and some thought it was because he signed with us? Maybe JT waited to make sure the final ranking were out before committing to us.

Re: '14 MA SG Jared Terrell (URI Commit)
Imo the problem is the business community and government in Providence and is very pro-PC, and likes to belittle URI. My Father owns an event management company that I now work for, we deal with many of the bigger people in those communities.
Back when he was managing the events for the Hockey Final Four in 98 perhaps? We were talking basketball with head of the civic center, a few government guys, and some other big Providence business guys. They started talking hoops when my OLM game that day got mentioned "Why would you root for URI? it's just a tiny 3rd rate school?" They were so rude about URI and oddly intent on converting us to PC. Letting me be a ball boy at a PC-UCONN game ( I was raised in CT and a huge UCONN fan back then), giving us front row seats to PC games (but never offering tickets to URI games at the old civic center). My father mentioned he never met a person in those circles who was an URI fan.
Dealing with some of these people myself now I see it also. We still get free PC tickets all the time. Whats interesting is we do trade shows in other similar sized cities. Syracuse officials i work with never feel the need to crap on other upstate New York schools.
Also being in 4th or 5th grade with a daughter of an old journal writer who came in to the class for something. Jim Harrick had just signed on for URI so I asked him about it. He told the class and I how it was a great example of the low morals/standards at URI currently, then started talking about what an upstanding school and basketball program PC had.

Re: '14 MA SG Jared Terrell (URI Commit)
And yet another anecdote to add to the thousands of these stories out there. These attitudes and resulting behaviors are ingrained in the old boys. It is not an over-reaction to be witness to them. I'm not focused on the negative by admitting it happens, quite the contrary, I'm focused on the great turning of the tides as it makes the ascension of our program and conference that much sweeter. I'd like to point out that I don't want the other teams in our region to suck, but to take their rightful places sucking our wind.

Getting to UConn's level would be the ultimate. Sorry, PC fans, you'll be good, but not quite as good as us.
Same for you, Harvard.
I wouldn't crap on PC. Cooley is recruiting higher ranked players than URI right now. We are getting closer to them but to say we will soon pass them may be a bit much.

Or it could be that he recognized Terrell couldn't progress at his level and needed to move to Brewster in order to reach his potential. Re: '14 MA SG Jared Terrell (URI Commit)
URI getting 4 star recruits has got to be opening some eyes around the A10. Especially since the program hasn't exactly set the world on fire the last few years. [Well more than that of course]
It even took VCU a while to start getting them, and they have had just a little success lately, no?
Look for more to come from this staff. I expect we'll see a lot of new names mentioned by the fall early signing period.
Looks like almost everything's in place. Let's start winning.

Well, their other advantage is a boatload of TV money.
However, as we've seen in many cases, that does not guarantee success.
How wisely it's spent is just as important.
