I think it speaks volumes that Hare hasn't transferred yet.

If he said "Hey EC, pass the fucking ball!"
Then he was speaking some truth! EC was a clapping mongork with the ball early last didn't pass to nobody.
I can see how Hare could have a crabby self serving attitude based on that.
They said he was playing well in those scrimmages didn't they?
I'd take him back. Wouldn't hurt.
That much.

Hare the Juggler is working on five factors here before he transfers:
1) He's waiting for his girlfriend to have another baby so he can go back to stocking shelves at night at the 138 Stop and Shop
2) He's waiting for E.C. to pass the fucking ball
3) He's waiting for Coach Hurley to get his 2025 contract extension and assure APR status
4) He's waiting for this thread to hit 50 pages
5) He's waiting to graduate soon someday and be qualified as a 5th year transfer

Players have to be given their release from their current schools, which is usually always done except for under a few circumstances, usually academic standing. At the same time, schools accepting transfers also have standards in which they can take on incoming players.

Also, 6'10" is 6'10", but he burned URI twice. I doubt there are many programs really eager to get on that ride.

He may just be trying to get a degree and is giving up on basketball like the idiot we have come to realize he is. Getting a degree is great but, screwing your promising basketball career where if you work hard you could make a whole bunch of money playing a game overseas or something.

Well, if this signing period ends and we haven't signed anyone to fill those 3 openings, what does that say about this staff's recruiting for 2015?

Bomb out city. Who would we get this summer? Retreads and warmed over leftovers?

The longer this goes, the better the chances that JH returns.

Why not? Warts and all, he's far better than nothing.

Hare is not coming back.

There is no way Hurley doesn't fill any of the 3 open roster spots.

Don't worry though, maybe we can get Blake Vedder as a grad transfer to fill our big man need.

This is a bad post. If he doesn't like basketball, why should be play? You're gonna call a kid an idiot for "just" trying to get a degree?

We don't know if he doesn't like basketball or not. He probably likes it better than stocking shelves.
I said it was great that he'd be getting a degree, but yes, I think he's an idiot for trying is best to piss away his basketball career. He'll probably play somewhere again, but he's a fool.
Hopefully he'll get a degree and be alright. He and his family.

If he is yelling at EC to pass the ball - maybe he should be on the coaching staff! Seriously though, if the kid finally decides to buy in he is the best big man we will probably be able to get in for next season. Plus he quit once, hurley gave up once now they are even.

I think that he would still only have 2 years of eligibility left. If I'm not mistaken, once you start playing a college sport, your "clock" starts and you have 5 years to play your NCAA-allowed 4 collegiate seasons. Of course, that doesn't include players who get a 6th year medical waiver, which JH won't get.

Today ends the second evaluation period weekend of the Spring, with the next ones not coming until July. Now, the focus shifts from primarily looking at the '16s and '17s to filling out the 15-16 rosters.

I wonder what the conversations and dialog are between Hare and Buchanon & Mathews. Three Michigan kids who have probably known each other for a long time.

Buchanon, who leaves every ounce of energy and effort he can muster on the floor every game.

Mathews, who is a gym rat and spends hours working to make himself better.

Hare must be an enigma to them.

If I was a senior like Buchanon, I'd probably be pissed at Hare. Hare may have been enough of a difference-maker to win a few very close, key games. Say the VCU and Davidson games. Or maybe the St Joe's game.

Who knows. A blocked shot here. A key rebound there that we didn't get. Lost opportunities never come around again.

This is frustrating, and it's only compounded by the fact we should not be in this position (desperate need of a Big) since everyone knew Gil was graduating. Now we are left with them needing to pull a rabbit (big) out of a hat. Maybe they are looking for a '16 who can reclassify?

Who really know what's going on?
Again, the need for size is a two year proposition.
It got messed up with Hare's coming back,
which lead to Gustys being no longer recruited,
to Hare leaving.
I many ways, Hare is as culpable as anyone in this scenario.

I just linked Rokas because he gets mentioned here time to time. His freshmen year isnt a mystery now that he's played it.

Me? I don't think its remotely obvious how Rokas would translate from there to here.

Not sure he would be better than Mike Aaman? Who it looks like almost avg a double double at Wagner.

I think what Ace was going for was at the time it was either accept Jared Terrell or continue going after Rokas Gustys.

Except Aaman was 6'7" and Gustys is 6'9" 250lbs.
He's tough, and fundamentally sound.
I know we had to pass on Gustys, because Hare came back and
the scholarship was used for Terrell.
Bigs develop slower than guards.
Also, Hofstra is a level higher than Wagner.

The ability of a coaching staff to develop big men DOES play a big part in recruiting them.

Diallo, the no. 7 ranked prospect, just said that Self [he just committed to Kansas] was very good in developing big men. He used Joel Embiid as an example.

Our only truly good big man [Hassan] hasn't seen the ball enough to know just how good he can be.

We don't run plays for him, like Rod has said. Of course playing out of position for 2 years due to lack of help, hasn't helped much either.

I now can see why we haven't been able to land any decent bigs in the last 2 years.

It is imperative that Dan hires an assistant that can help in this area. Bigs can see how guard oriented we are, and wonder if they will see the ball in our offense.

So they look at Rhody, and go thanks, but no thanks. No good.

My gut instinct and Hurley's track record of recruiting leads me to believe we will still get two of these four guys:

Willy Koussai
Kyle Washington
Stanford Robinson
Eli Carter

We should go ahead and get both Willy and Kyle.
Kyle would be sitting out next year in all likelyhood.
But (potentially Willy, Earl and Iffy (probably) will be gone after this year so we'd have room for some for a few bigs. Should be able to land some good ones in 2016.

I heard a story last night that was mind blowing.
It seems that Luther Clay came to practice one day,
and decided to take Jordan Hare aside and show him a
couple of moves and some instruction.
Supposedly Hare said he learned more in two hours with Clay,
than he did in his entire time here.
So, who is our "big man coach"? 5'9" Jim Carr.

Too bad Hare didn't learn how to be a good teammate. He would help us, for sure.

But that is mind blowing, Rod. Wonder why Dan doesn't see the need for a true big man coach?

That might have to change, if we're going to get more good big men. Can't be helping Hassan, either.

If big men recruits can see Hassan isn't part of the offense, except for offensive rebounding, will they want to come here and stand around in our offense half the time?

That doesn't help develop anybody's game......
