I know it's hard, but we have to relax. The signing period starts in about 3 weeks.

Speaking of our new connection with Expressions, this is their next projected great player. Can we please get on him now?

Hah ... " I felt that they would be able to prepare me to play at the highest level, along with a chance to showcase my talents again the best players on the Nike circuit, I'm in the gym every day, preparing for my opportunity."

No high school player talks like that. Probably has his own PR rep already.

Yeah, this is where we hire Ty Boswell to bring this guy in.......
As for what is or isn't happening, staff has to react and decide on which, if any, of the deluge of
transfers and 5th year players they want to chase.
Some players are still playing in the various tournaments.
It's not legal to approach players in another program. Of course nothing
can stop their representatives from contacting a school.
It's pretty complicated.
I'm hearing they're just looking for bigs, and not perimeter players.
They also see Iverson as a 3-4.
Supposedly interested in the big guy from Charlotte, who would be a 5th year
player and still keep the scholarship open for 2016 recruiting.

Mike Thorne from Charlotte and Shonn Miller from Cornell are exactly what this team needs. Both grad xfers, too. They will have a lot of suitors, though.

I feel like all around this is the best case scenario for sure. Grab a solid big guy who can come in and help right away next year, while still leaving your 2016 options open for a freshman big man.

41 schools have inquired on Thorn, Bill Self just visited.
He shot 54% on FTs this season so he should fit in nicely.

Still wondering when this big man announcement is coming.

If it's a 4 year, then it's April 15th or after.

Any other type, could be anytime. There aren't many teams left playing.

With all these transfers, maybe there's a last minute scramble to get one of them?

We should also know who's leaving soon, I would think. Conflicting reports on whether we will have 2 or 3 openings still....

I would love to see us get a Jr college or grad Big, and a frosh Big, who then has a year to develop (if needed). I know this means someone leaves, and I am assuming that will happen just based on others comments. If everyone stays, we need a JC or Grad Big, since the future is now, starting next season.

Well, without more frontcourt help, we aren't that NCAA team yet, especially with the A10 being stronger next season.

This is payoff time. Time to put the money where the mouth is, and bring it home.

Land a couple big ones, Dan.

Four McGlynn has committed to URI as a grad transfer

I assume this means someone is leaving since he is a guard and we were supposedly only loking for big men (and we need a big man)

Well, maybe there's more leaving than we thought?

This guy is a proven player. He will help for sure. Not sure about his defense, haven't heard if it's good or not. I doubt Dan would bring someone in who can't play defense, although Butler was a flop.

At this point, he is what he is. Maybe he can help the others with his FT shooting technique.

He did two years ago. Last year was 37%. Either number would have led our beloved Rams last year. FT/3pt percentages have very little fluctuation when a player changes competition levels.

Not saying that at all. FTs there is literally zero difference. 3ptrs is negligible. The raw-number "counting" stats are obviously greatly affected. Percentages, not so much.

As others have mentioned, when it comes to 3-point percentage from specialists, it tends to stay somewhat similar from level to level because they're usually only shooting when spotting up and open.

Would open up things for EC and Terrell.

I know we need a big but I am soooo happy we are bringing in a 3pt shooter. It is such a nerd on this team to stretch defenses and open the lanes for EC and Terrell. When JG was heating up at the end of the season you could see how the offense could be better if only we had guys consistently knocking down shots. Hope the Frosh fill this role as well but I like not relying on a freshman.

For the record - I would not mind if Butler stayed as well just because of his shot. If he works hard enough I still think you could get a good 10 mins a game out of him in his senior year with 40% from 3

Sorry, but I gotta raise the BS flag on this. Dayton just made back 2 back NCAA's, had an Elite 8 run and wouldve been Sweet 16 this year if not playing their 6th game in 8 days.

Those 2 teams didnt have anyone over 6'9 playing any significant minutes.

There are just as many examples of top teams without a big as those with.

A really good true center at the college level is a luxury, not an achilles heel

Baloney. Just look at the Final Four.
Anyone who thinks you don't need size in basketball
is way off base.
You point to one team, out of 64. Plus, they shoot the ball. We don't.
Even U of Portland had three 6'11" guys who have decent
stats.
You can win in the A-10, but you aren't going to do shit in the NCAAs with a 6'7" center,
backed up by a 6'6" guy who couldn't score if he were alone on the court.
You want to be Gonzaga? Well look at Gonzaga. 7', 6'11",6'10, and
Wiltjer can shoot 3s.

Makes you wonder what Dan even meant saying we had our big,
after the St. Joe's game?
Something about a "high profile guy".
I don't see URI mentioned anywhere with this Boucher, except
someone saying an assistant coach inquired about him.
Meanwhile, he's visiting elsewhere.
Again, this staff has proven to be able to recruit and develop guards.
Other than Martin's fluke recruiting scenario, almost nothing on
front court players.

Let's worry about winning the A10 first. Crawl before you walk, walk before you run - and for us it's been experimental surgery to get our paraplegic program back to being out of a wheelchair.

Let's go win the conference before we worry about our NCAA tournament needs.

NCAA runs are more important than conference titles. You think Duke or Michigan State would trade their FF for the league title? Sure, I'd take both but give me the big time postseason run. You could probably win the A10 without adding a big. It's not a size heavy league anyway and, with a few bounces, URI could have won it this year. But, no way do they make a postseason run with the current roster. Mostly because these "small" teams you see making the occasional run shoot lights out and don't turn the ball over. I am sure I will get killed for this but even a guy like Rokas Gustys would be enough. Rebound, play defense, make the occasional layup/dunk, and don't even think about taking a three pointer.

I agree. The new big, whoever that is, doesn't have to score. Score 6 or 8 points banging on the offensive glass, give some problems defensively to the opposing big, protect the rim on drives to the hoop and grab a few rebounds. If he does score a little more, it's gravy.

One of my favorite memories as a fan of any team was being a senior in high school in 1998. To see other kids wearing shirts and hats from other schools because they were cool or programs that attracted bandwagon fans and I was walking around wearing my URI stuff because I had already decided that's where I was going, and my team was doing better then theirs. So I get what you're saying to an extent, there's nothing like being a URI fan when we're being a giant killer in the tournament. That said, what we've waited so long for, or how much time we believe we have to wait, or our expectations of what we should be, that's not Dan Hurley's fault or problem. All he can do is control the three years he's been here and what happens in the future. And so far so good, though obviously room for improvement. And most important, Dan realizes we need to improve and sees where he can do it, unlike previous coaches.
