But, it does sound like a 6'10" guy maybe gave us a verbal?

Hope it's Alexander and not the juco.
We know now that it's not Alexander. I scoured the ESPN recruiting data base and let me tell you there's not a lot of unsigned 6-10 kids out there ... and many of the ones available are unlikely to help next year. It can't be a fifth-year senior; too early for that. So it's got to be a juco.

"having a lock on" does not sound like "we received a verbal commitment." All it says to me is that someone on the staff likes our position regarding a 6'10" player. Correct me if you got a different impression Rod, but it doesn't seem to promise anything, and there certainly hasn't been anything remotely binding yet.

Figured it's someone they're pretty confident of getting.
Also heard Saturday, it's likely a juco, from somebody else,
who usually knows what he's talking about.
I hope we get Alexander, but it looks like he's only in the
early stages of recruitment.

George Mason has a 6'11' Jamaican center named Shevon Thompson.
He averages 13.5 pg and 11.6 rpg.
He had 16 rebounds tonight against VCU.
We could use someone like that. Mason was scouting someone else on
Thompson's team, when it was noticed what a good worker he was after the game,
practicing rebounds.
You can find these guys, but you have to get lucky or know where to look.

Thompson is another guy that fits into that fairly common profile: raw, new to the game JUCO transfer. Those types of players can find a place in D1.

He's the only reason they have become competitive this season.

I might be wrong, but I don't think we've had a single recruit at a game this year. It would be nice to have one or two there tonight.

Saul Phiri, Preston Santos, Terrell Brown
Plus you should could Iverson as a visitor before he officially transferred

Yes, two '16s and an '18. I'm looking for someone who can help this team next year, like Alexander.

With the news of Oliver Prunell being done at DePaul, they have 3 forwards committed 2 of which are from David Cox area. Wonder if we try and get involved with them and see if they would change their minds. One of the guys is a 4 star 6'9" F

Now that I have had a bit of time to decompress from our loss to Dayton and elimination from the A-10 tourney I'd like to bring up a question we bantered about last night. That is, what's the story with Mathew Butler? Is he that valuable as a practice player as Ifeanyi Onyekaba is purported to be? Butler has 135 minutes and 28 points for the season. Is he to remain a scholarship player in light of Christion Thompson coming on board next year?

Has to be the case, because they're acting like they
have more than one to work with.
You have three players who could leave.
Rieschel could be a post grad player somewhere at a lower level D-1
school.
Butler might want to play somewhere else, because he's not going to
play here.
Ditto, Oneykaba.
Reischel, Oneykaba, Watson and, Minnis represent four scholarships for 2016 recruiting.
Dan might want to use one of those for this year, to balance classes.
Who knows.

I think we need to keep Watson and Biggie.

Watson's a big. We don't have many of those.

Biggie's a PG. Same situation.

The rest? They can go [sorry if that's crude].

Butler, JR, and Oneykaba are expendable.

Dayton has a 2016 commit already? In the A10. Crazy stuff.

Isn't Iffy considered a Junior this year? would people want him for 1 year? What are the chances he can get another year if he was to transfer. That may affect the market for his services.

I would prefer Reischel over Biggie, FWIW. More importantly, though, you can maybe get away with counseling a player or two out of the program every few years but you can't just start whacking people's scholarships three-at-a-time after every season. Maybe they do encourage someone to consider playing elsewhere and maybe another guy wants to go elsewhere on his own. But I think it is a mistake to look at members of your own team (a team which is exceptionally close, BTW) and call some of those guys "expendable." If it works out that both parties are better off if a guy transfers, so be it. But we aren't going to be a program that brings in guys on a probationary scholarship and runs them off in droves after a year or two. We owe our kids better than that.

I thought Reischel had a pretty good year (let's be honest he's a role player and contributed many times this year) and Biggie is a serviceable back up (always good to have). Iffy hasn't played much this year at all (38 min) and the same for Butler (135 min)

Too "Poly Purebred". Sorry, real world big programs don't operate
like they're run by Mary Poppins.

In other real recruiting news, Dan was at Vermont Academy recently.
They have some Expressions Elite players attending Vermont Academy.

Did you see Reischel play against Dayton? He didn't.
In a tiny bit against GW, he turned it over trying to dribble,
missed a layup, which didn't even hit the rim,
and missed two free throws.
A friend of mine calls it the Reischel hat trick.

Only way our team beats the best in the A10 and some good teams in the OOC is if our core four take a step forward each and are healthy. Also figure out how to replace Gil/TJ(which I have no idea).

Reischel if he built on everything in his game and became stronger would probably be very good against mediocre competition and help us cruise past weaker teams.

Looked for some Butts stuff today, I like him. I think Butts might contribute next year.

Best thing I heard was Dan telling me Thompson was like a taller Xavier Munford.
Keep hearing about the mystery big man, who we'll announce in
a couple of weeks.
I have my hopes, but I'm probably off base.
Whoever it is, is likely still playing somewhere, which accounts for the silence.

Or go for 5 and 5 in a tough road game @Richmond

But, we all know what happens when Rod gets a hard on for hating specific players.
