ALERT: St. Bonaventure Game Rescheduled for 7pm Saturday
UPDATE: The game vs St Bonaventure will be played at 7pm Saturday, rather than at 2pm as originally scheduled.
Rhode Island Rams@GoRhodyRams
"Per A-10 policy, Saturday's Rhode Island/St. Bonaventure men's basketball will be played"
Glad the A-10 gives a damn about fan's safety.
They easily could have made a Sunday doubleheader with the women's game.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
Well according to A10 rules, if both teams can safely get to the location of the game, it will be played as scheduled. St. Bonaventure arrived in RI today. If they had to postpone it, it would be a nightmare in terms of rescheduling the game. Sucks for us fans, but I don't see what other option the league has.

What is wrong with postponing by one day?
The game honestly will likely be played in front of hundreds.

I wonder if there will be any refunds or ticket exchanges for fans who can't get to the game....I doubt it, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

ONE DAY! BFD! It's logical, to all but the galactically stupid.
I want to be there. I don't care about TV.
Most forecasts say the bulk of the storm will be Saturday.

This sucks - I can only get to a few games a year and I have tix to Saturday's. There's no way I can make it there from Boston - we're going to get DECKED.

I'm sure the reasoning behind a move to Sunday has alot to do with the Bonnies travel and class schedules. Flight and hotel changes would also be an added expense. Not saying it's a good excuse necessarily, but I'm sure that is part of it.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
No way I'm putting human lives in danger getting to the game. Its unfathomable that the Athletic Department does not have the common sense of playing the men’s game either before or after the woman's game on Sunday. They are going to be paying the Global Spectrum staff anyway. Is the A-10 going to assume responsibility, both moral and financial if, God forbid someone gets injured or killed in-route to the Ryan Center? Lastly, if the season ticket holders don’t at least get credit against the cost of the ticket to a game they really can’t attend it’s a serious slap in the face and gives me pause as to my future support of the program.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
I love how the A-10 has put rules before common sense. Lets all drive down to the Ryan Center on roads that will only be passable by snowmobile. Makes no sense why this game can't be moved to Sunday. I don't get why URI doesn't fight this more also. They are basically giving up a home game here because they'll be lucky to have 500 people in there and that will be all students. Something should definitely be done for the season ticket holders. I'm so sick of this happening every time there is a big storm. It happens once every three years or so and we never get compensated for our wasted tickets when they play a game that only an idiot would venture to drive to because of weather conditions.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
The forecast is tending toward a more severe storm in the Kingston area as well as arriving later than originally predicted. The A10 may re-think their stance made during a time of a more favorable forecast; particularly if the Governor declares a State of emergency for RI for the time of the game. Also, URI isn't immune to power outages. I'm sure SBU prefers to play the game, since they will be here and fewer fans at an away game is a plus.

I don't see what all the excitement is about. This has always been the case: if both teams and officials are there the game goes on. There was a game at the Dunk that fans walked to.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
That game, which I attended vs. Wake Forest, was AFTER the storm.
THIS is what the big deal is:
FROM NATIONAL WEATHER CENTER
Snow could fall as much as 3 inches per hour on Friday night and into Saturday morning. The weather service predicted drifting snow and wind gusts up to 55 mph, making travel "nearly impossible."

I guess it's a good thing the game isn't being played Friday night or Saturday morning? Ugh.
Thorr just tweeted out that there will be an exchange policy listed on GoRhody...one wouldn't be needed if they just did it on Sunday.

Everybody is postponing games, but the A-10 knows something better. Give me a break, this is just an example of an inflexible organization, never a good feature. And this is the we expect to develop a plan in the coming re-alignment game??!!

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
For once I agree with Rod. Play the game on Sunday and everyone wins. SBU can easily make it home for Monday classes.

How does the ticket exchange work? Can it somehow be done on-line or do we have to exchange them at the Ryan Center?EasyEdBrown wrote:I guess it's a good thing the game isn't being played Friday night or Saturday morning? Ugh.

There's a chance this game could be played but be closed to fans. It's a shame, but it seems like the school is handling it as best they can within the rules of the conference.

As of now, yeah. I guess it depends on how things go. A game with just students could be fun. I'm guessing they'll offer extra free tickets for an upcoming game for season ticket holders.twisted3829 wrote:they are encouraging students on campus to go to the game

Ticket Exchange Policies for Saturday's Game vs. St. BonaventureEasyEdBrown wrote:I have no idea...is it up on gorhody yet?
Here are two ticket exchange scenarios for Saturday's game versus St. Bonaventure.
The game will be played as scheduled, per Atlantic 10 rules.
Blizzard Conditions in Rhode Island/Game is played:
•Tickets (un-stubbed/non scanned) can be exchanged for another men's basketball home game during the 2012-13 season.
•If the game is played (as scheduled) fans should use discretion if they decide to travel to the Ryan Center.
Game is not played/closed to fans:
•All tickets for the Feb. 9 St. Bonaventure game at will be honored at the rescheduled date and time, if applicable.
•Fans holding tickets for the Feb. 9 game can use the same ticket for the rescheduled game on the specified date.
•Fans who are unable to attend the rescheduled game may exchange their (un-stubbed /non scanned) game ticket for another men's basketball home game during the 2012-13 season.
•Season ticket holders will get two (2) additional free tickets to any of the remaining games

I'm with Rod. A 24-hour delay would be wise. Weather-wise, of course, the Bonnies players will feel like it's home.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
If they do play this game, the Bonnies probably won't be able to get a flight before Sunday, anyway.
Maybe they'll give season ticket holders a ticket (or 20) to an upcoming football game.

Re: The Height of Idiocy!
Boston.com has a list of sporting events cancelled or postponed. A few schools have rescheduled their bball games from Sat to Sun:
Central Connecticut State, Bryant, and Bentley all rescheduled men’s and women’s home doubleheaders from Saturday to Sunday.
I remember hearing stories of the '78 Beanpot hockey tournament where fans and concession staff were stuck in the Garden, eating popcorn, hot dogs and beer for 3 days....

The game should be moved to Sunday, SBU has, I think, a home game Wednesday......plenty of time to play, loose, and get out of Kingston.....

Like Rod said, Sunday still makes more sense. Does the A-10 think the storm is going to stop and we are going to have instant pavement on the roads? First of all this is Rhode Island and second of all we're getting around 24 inches. A tall task even for the cities that deal with this stuff many times in a winter.

Re: ALERT: St. Bonaventure Game Rescheduled for 7pm Saturday
Off topic, but anyone who's been in Montreal during and after a big storm,
is shocked at the total efficiency of their snow removal.
They use big dump trucks and the snow goes right into the
St. Lawrence Seaway, and every street, big and small is down to the pavement, in
no time at all.
Of course, here, the EPA won't allow snow to be dumped in rivers. Only sewage.

Re: ALERT: St. Bonaventure Game Rescheduled for 7pm Saturday
Agree that they should move it. Atp, wish I lived in Wakefield and not Manchester Ct. Even with a 7 o'clock start, it will still be dangerous/stupid to attempt it.
Rod, as I remember Blizzard Larry, the Wake Forest game at the Dunk came about three days after the storm. Governor Grasso of Ct. shut down the state and on the day the state was reopened I traveled on route 6 to Providence. It was surreal with basically no one on the road in eastern ct. but myself. Made it to the game with huge snow drifts on the side of the roads. There were probably 3000? people in the stands, but boy were they loud. Anyone who would come out in that type of weather were true fans. - and yes, the rams beat the Demon Deacons.
