I remember it well, Neil!
We parked on The Hill and walked down.
Rod Griffin, the Deacon's AA got 39 points, but Sly, Jiggy and Stan, ran them off the floor, with
one of the most torrid fast break attacks I've ever seen.
PC got all the glory for beating UNC the day before, but what's never mentioned is,
WF was a better team than UNC that season, and beat them twice.
I started my new job as a State Investigator the next day, so it was a big memory
in my life.

I have some great memories of that Wake Forest game. I remember Irv Chatman being a defensive force, and swatting away several WF shots. We were sitting next to some WF fan, who in a southern drawl, kept complaining about "these goddamn Yankee referees!"

Sunday makes sense for fans, but not for SBU. They would have to pay for an extra day's accommodations, probably compensate the bus driver, etc. etc. Furthermore, the women's game is at 2 tomorrow, so if they did do a doubleheader, our game probably wouldn't start until 4. Game ends at around 6, SBU probably stops to eat and then has a 8 hour drive back to upstate NY. Their next game isn't until Wednesday sure, but these kids are supposed to be student-athletes and forcing them to spend an extra day in RI just so you can go to the game is incredibly selfish. Love it or hate it NCAA sports are for the kids first, fans second.

Rod, as I remember Blizzard Larry, the Wake Forest game at the Dunk came about three days after the storm. Governor Grasso of Ct. shut down the state and on the day the state was reopened I traveled on route 6 to Providence. It was surreal with basically no one on the road in eastern ct. but myself. Made it to the game with huge snow drifts on the side of the roads. There were probably 3000? people in the stands, but boy were they loud. Anyone who would come out in that type of weather were true fans. - and yes, the rams beat the Demon Deacons.

That game will always be one of my favorite memories as a Ram fan. It was on a Monday night. We walked from down Elmwood Ave. to the Dunk. Without any cars on the roads, the walking was easy and it didn't seem that long. Of course, I was a lot younger then. The game was great, Griffin was great, but the Rams were better.
We stopped at every bar on the way back to my friend's home, at the time. What a great night all around.
I'm surprised we all weren't stopped and ticketed for "walking under the influence."

One day of no classes isn't exactly catastrophic.
You make it seem like it's a big deal. It's not. Neither are one more day's expenses.
They'll lose that much just on concessions.

I just thought of something. We upset Wake after a big storm and we upset UCONN (in Storrs) the Saturday after the '78 blizzard. This doesn't look good for the Bonnies, whenever we play them.
We may be a great post-blizzard team!

You're right Rod, it's not catastrophic, but when it comes down to choosing between students attending class and fans attending games, the students get the priority every time.

You sure they weren't too tired at the end of the game? How can a team do such a thing like play at a high pace and run opponents off the floor? I don't understand.

They could have pushed the women's game to 4 (it's a free admission game) and started the men's game at 1pm, which is the time they played Sunday games for a few years.

Were were big, (NBA bodies, according to Dave Gavitt) fast and deep.
A John Nelson layup away from the Final Four.
All things lacking today.

I hope OSN still plans on airing the game. Currently they have a Rutgers v Cinci women's game scheduled from 6-8. Hopefully they switch it up & air the URI game instead.

I would imagine URI worked with their broadcast partners when deciding to reschedule the game. The GoRhody page still shows the game airing on OSN, so I bet that they will air it at the new 7pm time.

Was that the game the Rhody Ram got a technical for walking on the court? Never mind, you guys were talking about the 78' game (read other posts). This one was at the Dump in 93'.

NBC10's reporter was reporting from the Holiday Inn in South Kingston and saying the hotel had lost power, which happens to be the hotel where the Bonnies are staying. The hotel is currently working off generators after losing power for some time. Still not every room has heat or power tonight.

What a dilemma. I have tix but gov gump has a travel ban. I have electricity but no cable or internet. My att iphone can't get internet. My work blacberry on verizon works fine but my employer restricts streaming.

At least the radio works.......

OSN and coxsportsonline.com will be unable to broadcast and stream the game live. Due to the blizzard and subsequent travel bans, the television crew and production truck was unable to make it to the Ryan Center.

The game will not be televised and thre will be no streaming. I guess I have to go see it live. You are allowed to drive if your house is without power. If you get pulled over, tell them you have no power.

I want to go in the worst way but I'm worried about the roads after the game. The temperature is supposed to drop into the teens by 9 o'clock. I have a feeling they'll be frozen solid where the plowing wasn't done up to par.
