walk on players

Unread post by neil »

Kudos to the walk on players. They go unnoticed by the majority of the fans, but you have to give these student athletes a heck of alot of credit. Practices, travel, -knowing that they have little or no chance of getting in a game. Not only that, but have you watched their enthusiasm on the bench? Sometimes coach goes down the line and wants the bench to get fired up, but it's usually for the scout team and not these guys. If Steve M had any guts, he would put them on the post game show, or have a feature on them in the projo. It would also be nice if coach singled them out. They are certainly an asset to this year's team. Go Rhody!

agreed.
Hurley saw Youncofski when he was recruiting Aaman and loved his effort and basketball IQ, so he recruited the kid as a walk-on. He's the son of a coach and wants to become a coach so he's learning the ins and outs from this coaching staff. Great kid.

His brother is also the lead basketball manager at Kansas. That family seems to have a bright future ahead on the sidelines.

He's also the reason we lost the St. Mary's game. I remember the announcers saying his injured elbow was a real blow to the team that night.

Walk-ons work hard and get little glory. Many were high school stars not quite good enough to get a D-1 free ride.
