Your questions for Delroy James?

Unread post by RhodeIslandRams »

Delroy is in Italy these days, and he's accepted my invitation to do a Skype interview tomorrow.

What would YOU like to hear from Del about?

Who was his favorite teammate at URI?

Who is his favorite teammate since he's been overseas?

How often does he think about absolutely destroying Luke Babbitt from Nevada in the NIT?

I want to know how much he feels like the lockout hurt his chances of being on an NBA roster. He lost his chance to play summer league, attend a training camp, etc. I always thought Delroy James would be the perfect guy to sign two years/$1 million, put him in a suit on the bench every night and give him a chance to have a good, honest run in practice against your squad. His brothers played overseas. I think he would have appreciated the chance to be in the NBA so much that he would have been the perfect extra piece on any squad.

How is he enjoying the Italian league and what are the main differences versus US college ball?

Would he ever like to get into coaching?

I'm not sure he was NBA level, regardless of the lockout. However, I think this was a case where playing for JB hurt a kid's NBA chances. He fell in love with the jump shot playing in a horrible offense predicated on nothing other than long jumpers. He could have been either a point forward type or even a guy who got to the rim more often. I think he average less than 4 or 5 FTs a game at URI and saw his FG% go down through his years at Rhody. His stats got better because he played more and was more of a focal point but his game might have even regressed. Taking almost as many threes as FTs was borderline coaching malpractice with someone who was physically better than most of the guys guarding him.

Good points, GB. Delroy was a physical talent, who never improved his game.
I thought he was better as a junior than a senior.
Outerbridge was another player, who had physical talent, but died from lack of good coaching.
Both guys were perimeter crazy, when they should have been mid range-in players.
Outerbridge, especially, should have been an interior player.
