Re: OT: Super Bowl
I want a scoreless tie. Dislike both teams.
John has a personality, Jim is a psycho.
Found out their mother is a fellow Sicilian, so they can't be all bad.
Hate the idea of Ray Lewis's act if the Ravens win.
Stuart Scott is soooo indignant that Lewis had to answer PED questions at
the Super Bowl. How dare they do that to an ESPN icon!
On the other hand, I'm already tired of hearing about
The Pistol, and how unstoppable it is.
Somebody should call Chris Peterson at Boise State, who had beaten
Kaepernik and the Nevada pistol, 3 our of 4 years.
So, yeah. scoreless tie, but I think SF will win a close one.

Have you seen the Ray Lewis on SNL impersonation by Kenan Thompson from last week? I thought it was pretty funny ..rodfromcranston wrote:I want a scoreless tie. Dislike both teams.

49ers over the Ravens, 31-20

RJ, loved that sketch. Kenan Thompson has put together an excellent under-the-radar SNL career.
Re: the steroid issue, Bill Simmons of all people had a good column on the media's complicity in the "quick recovery" of Lewis and other guys: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/890 ... d-question - Obviously, I do more local news, but it did make me reflect on how I cover things. For example, are Rhode Island high school kids juicing? (One kid, who was a minor role player from a local school, told me after he graduated that he tried some of the stuff, but it skeeved him out so he dropped it.) What about college athletes? I mean, the naturally reaction is to say, "Of course not," but the ease of which you can do it and the lack of testing is kind of startling.
The game itself, I think the 49ers win going away. Like some others have guessed, it's been a while since we've had a crappy Super Bowl, so I think tonight's the night. My only regret is that I'll be watching it at home, since I'm coming down with a cold or something, and don't really want to be a biological hazard at some Super Bowl party.

Probably cynical of me, but I've decided to go in with the thought that everyone's taking something. The line between what is legal and what isn't can seem so arbitrary.

Re: OT: Super Bowl
The NFL policy on PEDs, just like the NBAs. is a joke.
Just look at these guys, and tell me they're natural.
I've know some body builders, who claim people jacked that much
are all on the juice. These guys also admit to doing it themselves,
as body building doesn't seem regulated like other sports.
Funny thing is watching these guys when they're off steroids for awhile.
Unrecognizable.

This is hilarious, for those of us who aren't true followers of
St. Ray Lewis. Sory about the language, but that's the only way to get the link:

Is it too late to take the Ravens by 3?
Could there be a worse announcer that Simms? I thought he was terrible all year doing the pats games. No quarterback has ever thrown a bad pass in his opinion.Tonight, he out did himself.

Come on, Refs! Throw the damn flag on that obvious hold on 4th down for the niners.

Re: OT: Super Bowl
No Italian quarterback named Joe has ever lost a Super Bowl game.
Too bad Ray Lewis was along for the ride.
ESPN.com has Lewis' puss on their lead story, instead of the MVP
of the game, who once played at Meade Stadium when he was with Delaware.

That was a heck of a game to watch, I was pulling for the 49ers but they fell just short

Re: OT: Super Bowl
It felt strange watching this game without having a "dog in the race." I guess Pats fans have become spoiled. But, at least it didn't hurt much when it was over. Noticed another "Super Bowl Catch" to keep a crucial drive alive.
But, it turned into an enjoyable game to watch. Too bad Beyonce's hair dryer knocked out the power.

Re: OT: Super Bowl
I thought it was holding, too. But the refs aren't going to call a penalty in that situation. Nobody wants to let a penalty _ unless it was a total mugging _ have that much say in the outcome. I was rooting for the 49ers.
No huge rooting interest. If I'm Jim Harbaugh I'm more upset with my QB and coordinator for those lame pass attempts. Ngata was out. The D was tired. They couldn't rush four times for four yards?
I also think the refs could have called holding/ in the grasp on the Giants in 2008 on the final drive. But that's not the reason the Patriots lost. And refs will keep the flags in their pockets in these cases.

Re: OT: Super Bowl
The 49ers got in on a non-holding call on the final play against the Falcons as well when they grabbed Roddy White. Karma is a bitch sometimes...

Re: OT: Super Bowl
It shouldn't have come to that bad no-call. Their play calling on the set of downs with goal to go reminded me of URI's offensive sets under the reign of Jim Baron. They should have pounded the ball instead of call little outs in the flat.

Re: OT: Super Bowl
the refs also missed a late hit out of bound on ravens 3rd down play that would have made it first a goal from the 1 with 4:30 left

if the 49ers thought they were going to score from the 5 yd line-----why are you passing
clock management run the ball it leaves less time for balt

Re: OT: Super Bowl
Yeah there were multiple mistakes from the 49ers down the stretch. But thats the kind of guy Jim Harbaugh is, he'll spend his time blaming the refs rather than admitting his own mistakes.

Re: OT: Super Bowl
If the 49ers want to complain about the refs [yeah it was holding but not flagrant enough to call in that situation], they should look at their play calling on 2nd-3rd-4th down. Horrible. You got the biggest weapon on the field there [the QB] who could have run it in, or at least hand it off.
Using that TO late was a killer too. If they had 2 TO's left instead of 1, the 49ers would have had at least a minute to go maybe 50 yards to win. No excuse.
I do think the 49ers were the better team, but they beat themselves. Happens in the playoffs all the time lately.
