Game #19: Virginia Commonwealth University - GameDay!

Unread post by section(105) »

They/ll come in bit angry, no? Come on campus, come out and support our guys. We/ll need huge board effort, shorten the game, stay out of foul trouble, keep X on floor for 36 minutes.

Ranked A10 teams don't normally survive double losses in one week to unranked opponents.

VCU falls from #19 in the AP poll to receiving just 4 total points.

Also of note, La Salle receives just 3 points despite beating Butler and VCU.

URI opponents in the poll: Ohio St is #11, Butler is #9, and in addition to La Salle and VCU, St Mary's receives 2 points

I think for us to have a shot at this game we need all of our scorers to get going. We need Malone, Nik, and Munford to all get into the double digits and play good basketball. I also love when Nik gets aggressive on the boards and I want to see it on Wednesday. I also want to see Powell playing mistake free and hitting some shots as well. Its going to be a tough game but we always play tough, and if we can keep the game close at the end who knows!

we would need everything to go right for it to even be competitive, their defense will give us fits

Powell will have to play the game of his life, as he will absorb much of the pressure and burden of getting us into our offense amidst the HAVOC around him.

Nik and Malone will have to both play above average games.

X will have to be X and hit some miraculous shots along the way.

And somehow, some way, the 3-headed monster of Brooks, Hare and Aaman will have to collectively rebound their arses off.

We have to stop a very deep and talented offensive team, too.

I don't see where any scoring comes from on this team if X is having a lousy shooting night. If he's not making buckets the chance for this team to beat anybody go waaaaay down.

Such a shame we couldn't get a ranked opponent in here on a weeknight during classes. What a wasted opportunity.

A little disconcerting that there are only three A-10 teams in the current RPI Top 50. VCU is at their lowest point (39th) since week 6 when they were 41st. I thought the league would be a little better at the top this year.

It is disappointing that VCU didn't come in here ranked. VCU did themselves in by blowing a 7 point lead to Richmond with a minute left. They win that one and I think they're still ranked in the USA Today which has them at the 3rd team out right now. I would have like to have seen the atmosphere in the Ryan Center. Hopefully we still get a great crowd.

OK guys. I just got a call from URI, and I've been selected as
Season Ticket Holder of The Game for the VCU game.
Nice to see the school doing things to promote Ram basketball.

So a little misleading, especially since there are many sources for RPI rankings these days. Sure, maybe Top 50 at this very moment has less teams than you expected, but when there are 3 teams ranked between 51 and 56, that's worth mentioning.

At Live-RPI.com, here is what they have at the moment:
10 Butler
27 LaSalle
39 VCU
53 Charlotte
55 UMass
56 Temple

ESPN has these RPI rankings today:
10 Butler
26 LaSalle
40 VCU
47 Charlotte
55 UMass
57 Temple

BasketballState.com has these RPI rankings today:
10 Butler
28 LaSalle
40 VCU
54 Temple
57 UMass

I just got three seats in my row, for my daughter and two granddaughters.
Now, if the third row in a pretty decent section is still available
at this late time, I'm guessing it'll be another disappoinitng crowd, VCU or not.

I wonder how much of a difference it would have made in attendance if VCU still had that number in front of their name. You'd think that their recent success alone would bring out some new fans.

I think, if we beat GW and Fordham, and had a three game win
streak, we'd probably get a better crowd.
Seriously, unless it was a top ten team coming in here, I don't see
people being moved to come to see an opponent.
If it were Butler instead of VCU, maybe we could break 5,000.

Hey Rod.

I congratulate you on this honor but I believe nothing done at the games is "random"....from season ticket holder of the game to the Cox family upgrade to who wins pizzas, subway sandwiches and Alex and Ani jewelry....

......everything is pre-determined.....that friend from development that you met this year is probably behind the randomness......not that you don't deserve it but my cynical self believes they pick who they want for everything.....

VCU -10 seems like easy money if you are a betting man

if we lose in single digits we will likely have had to play a helluva game and i'll be happy. unfortunately i dont see that happening.

saying they are a bad matchup for our current composition of a team would be the understatement of the year. I hope mike powell is getting a lot of rest right now, tomorrow he will endure 40 minutes of pressure with likely little relief. they are athletic, ball hawking, good 3 pt shooters, slashers, bangers and have a good PG. dont like it fellas, hoping for some Hurley magic!!! as always, Go Rhody!!!!!!

I met Shaka Smart at the Mews tonight! He took a few minutes to talk to us. I told him I respect the hell out of the job he does for VCU but that I would be in the front row (face Keaney blue painted) cheering against him. He said that he wouldn't expect anything less.

Great guy and an awesome moment.
