Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
It would be nice to have a ranked VCU at the Ryan Center this year. They can do it if they don't slip up against lesser teams on the road and handle the two toughest opponents at home until they come to Kingston.

Yeah, they have to be close as it stands right now. Only losses are vs. Wichita St by 2, #5 Duke by 9, and #13 Mizzou by 3.ATPTourFan wrote:It would be nice to have a ranked VCU at the Ryan Center this year. Only big win was at a neutral site vs. Memphis who was top 20 at the time, but if they get off to a 6-0 or 5-1 start in conference I think they'll be top 25 by the end of the month.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
Not lots of activity tonight, but in action so far we see:
Brown having another bad shooting night against visiting Niagara. FG% at 29. Bruins were down by 19 with three minutes left in first half when they got a spark to cut the deficit to 10.
Vermont is holding a slim lead over BU at the half, 24-22.
Loss to Illinois dropped Ohio State down in rankings from #8 to #15. Tonight they get a chance to make amends in taking on a mediocre Purdue team on the Boilermakers home court.
Also, UConn is killing De Paul, 54-34 at the half.

Coach Martin must have given one helluva talk at halftime because Brown came from behind to beat Niagara in OT, 75-74.
Vermont lost its first game in AE as the Catamounts fell to BU, 63-53.

Good to know about StJoe/Butler. Will have to have side by side streams, or two laptops going simultaneously.

Cuse is very good, but i don't think they have the outside shooting/perimeter scoring to win it all. big and long and strong, as usual.
some kid on VCU had 9 steals tonight, that's ridiculous.

Cooley went big. Played batts and sidiki at the sane time. Cotton was on fire. Dunn played sparingly with lots of energy off the bench.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
PC's poor play against Brown, DePaul and its excellent play versus Syracuse shows the inconsistency seen in all teams. Cooley made some good changes to counter the Orange. Let's see if he can continue to make adjustments in PC's next two games against Seton Hall and Georgetown and get the Friars to develop a consistent rhythm against BE quality rivals.

i suspect PC will get much better as the season progresses and Cooley figures out how to use all his new parts....if they regress then his coaching comes into question, they have talent on that roster.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
Interesting to note that both newcomers to the A-10, Butler and VCU, got wins in their inaugural A-10 games. Butler's comeback on the road against a good St. Joe's team ripe for an upset was impressive.
BC seems to be recovering from bad losses in their OOC by going into Blacksburg and getting a solid win, 86-75 over Virginia Tech.
SMU lost at Houston, 78-67. Larry Brown and SMU are fading as the Mustangs have lost six of their last eight games beginning with their visit to the Ryan Center when they were 8-1.
Auburn opened its SEC season with an upset win over previously 9-2 LSU, 68-63.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
In Thursday night A-10 action:
Temple at Xavier
UMass at Saint Louis. UMass is now 10-3 and has won all its four away games, many by close margins. Is UMass the type of team that just plays to their opponents level because they have had close come from behind wins over some weak teams like Siena, Northern Illinois, Northeastern?
In the OOC:
Old Dominion at George Mason
St. Mary's at #9 Gonzaga (ESPN2)
Both St. Mary's and UMass games can be viewed on FirstRow Sports.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
I think UMass, like Charlotte, is a total fraud.
UMass will fade come February/March, just take a look at that schedule...
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... -minutemen
St. Joes, VCU, Temple, Dayton, Xavier, Butler all in Feb/March, not to mention they will choke one away against URI.
If UMass was really a Tourney contender they would have taken care of Miami and Tennessee.

Xavier, loser of five of their last six games, is trying to defend their home court against Temple and the first half has been close with X in the lead at the break, 29-26.
George Mason, an up and down team in recent games, has a 30-22 lead over a bad (2-13) Old Dominion team.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
Proving once again that it is tough to get win on the road in the A-10, Xavier beats Temple, 57-52. This was close contest throughout with X holding a slim lead most of the second half.

St. Louis with an 8 point win over UMass. They look pretty solid with players that I feel have been there forever. Mitchell, Jett, and Loe

Billy Baron missed a three point shot with 12 seconds left before Siena hit the winning trey with 2 seconds remaining.
BTW, 5,986 was the Siena attendance, not shabby for a team with a 3-13 record.

Re: Week #10 - Games of Interest
It's getting ugly on the Canisius board.
My favorite comments are the ones that go,
"Now we know why Rhode Island fired him (CFL)".
They are livid over the freefall they're in and losing to such a terrible team, that not only lost 10 in a row,
but had a few guys out.
Siena must have good fans to show up like that.
