Keaney Blue Forum Traffic crashing system

I have been getting error messages throughout today indicating that the board has exceeded its maximum number of users. That alone is testament and proof that Rhody nation is presently very excited about the program.

Yeah, I have noticed the max connections exceeded message. I just refresh my connection and it usually pops back up. After we win the Final Four you may need to ask your provider for extra bandwidth. ;-)

Yep, it's odd as i'm pretty sure Admins have said we were nowhere near BAndwith limit in terms of users before....

May be a bug of ZenForo?

Thanks for letting me know you are seeing it. I’ve been trying to track down the cause assuming it’s a configuration issue. It may be a hosting issue but we aren’t close to hitting limits on bandwidth or processing/memory even during peak traffic.

Did anyone get the message today? If possible pls post the time you saw the message so I can align it with hourly traffic.

Got this error today 01/20/18 at 11:41am while I had the "Who has been the most pleasant surprise of the season so far?" thread open.

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

User keaneybl_admin already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections [1203]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

Yeah. That’s weird because traffic is very low.

According to:

https://dba.stackexchange.com/questions ... ions-error

this limit is not on total user connections, but on the total connections by the individual user (in your case keaneybl_admin).

Seems like a user setting of some sort. Hope this helps.

If y'all could screen shot these issues, that would probably be helpful for ATP as well! Hit "printscreen" on your keyboard, and then copy-paste into an empty Paint or Photoshop or IrfanView file. (Or whatever the kids use to create JPGs nowadays.)

Exactly. It's connections to the database. I'm going to turn off some of the extra features to see if that resolves the issue.

You also might want to check if the forum software has any caching settings you can mess with. If so, you might be able to cut down on the DB connections going that route.

Yeah, for phpBB, caching provides no advantage. I just doubled the # of CPUs we have at our disposal. We were pushing 90-100% utilization around 9am.

I am told that the doubled processing capacity should commence sometime within next 4 hours.

It's very strange that the same exact system stayed up (as far as I remember) during the NCAA games vs Creighton and Oregon.

OK. That should be behind us. We now have double performance overhead on the server side and just to be safe, I did some clean-up on the database side to relieve stress on the server and to prevent sluggishness under heavy usage. I'm interested in anyone's feedback on the speed of page loads now that I've done some clean-up.

Very sorry about the interruption of service, but we're back and Rhody is #24 in the country!!

I wonder if the higher CPU usage comes as a side effect of the meltdown patches. It can have a 50% speed penalty when it comes to database IO

FINALLY an update from the hosting provider:
There's currently an issue with all our severs. The issue is known and is being worked on as we speak. This doesn't look to be specific to your account, our admins are already looking into what is causing this. As soon as the issue is fixed, you should be able to access the website.

Seems to be working fine now. Of course, I'vE a couple 603 Amber Ales and the glow of national ranking to keep me happy.

Page loads definitely seem faster to me. Especially those pages you get to that end up with a ton of embedded tweets that need to load are coming through faster then they were before.

This would traditionally be a situation where Rod would come from the clouds and point out what a vapid skank she is, and rant on.

Miss that man. Carry on.

I would, at minimum, be able to get another board up and running within a day. I have local backups of the database and forum files. I'm easy to find.

It is absolutely unbelievable that this server issue remains after 4 days. I continue to push for a response and resolution from the host provider.

In the mean time, I am looking for other hosts. I'm weary of moving the site to another host at this point of the season, but with these kinds of outages we presently experience, the risk is almost nullified.

Thank you to everyone for your patience during this unprecedented poor performance by BlueHost.

No. Nothing has changed and nothing would change. Any switch would be announced and there would be a scheduled period where the site would be locked.

Thx Ramster. It appears our esteemed host provider has eliminated the issue, as we've gone a few days without interruptions. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Still going to find another host that can deliver the same if not better site speed and more importantly, much better reliability. That is a big decision and takes some research and careful planning. I'm hopeful we get through the rest of this season without incident so we can address this in the Spring.

Not sure you read my earlier reply, Ramulous. This is not in any way equivalent to when we were on Projo, without any control, and Projo cut the cord without warning. Fortunately, Steve Greenwell had the foresight of preparing a new spot for us and we transitioned there before Projo Forums went dark.
