if we are going on rants on things that should happen.. are we planning a 20 or 30 year reunion of our elite 8/ sweet 16 teams? we are far enough out that many could make the trip if it was planned more then a day ahead. Connecting past golden generations with the current one.

Blue man there is an updated one, if you go to archives under last year there is an updated one there. Not sure why the record book link on the site goes to that old one

Actually when you go to the team site and under additional links there is record book, that one is up to date

LOL. One of my favorite things about this board is that people connected with the program read it and will happily correct inaccuracies I may post.

I am rash and sometimes miss the mark. Shane is extremely on the ball and updates these on a game by game basis. Rhody just made a cost cut to stop printing the media guides about 5 years ago, hence why that link I originally posed is the old PDF.

Now we just need to work on our SEO clicks and have the updated link be the first in the google search!

Holy crap.

10-0 in our next 10 gives us a chance at doing it at home against Dayton. \

10-1 in our next 11 gives us a shot at doing it senior day vs St. Joes.

Would happily sign up for either of those opportunities as that would assure us going at worst 15-3 in conference.

The nice thing is that Dan Hurley (who is in fact not Jim Baron 2.0) has his teams playing better in Feb and March than they do in the first half of the season.

Not a record but a worthwhile stat nonetheless which speaks to the rarified air we are in right now in our programs history. Going back to last season we have now won 13 straight versus A10 opponents - 9 of those 13 wins have been by double digits. That is domination.

Does post season (A10 tourny/NCAA tourny stats count towards total points scored? If so EC could end up # 2 on that list (knock on wood).

That would be awesome. Unfortunately, Jiggy, my favorite player, has passed. Our best seasons have been years ending in 8 (except 08 because we had a crappy coach, and '17, of course ). So, this could be another great one!

Some quick math. EC Matthews currently has 1661 points. He could potentially end up in the top 3. Currently:

1. Carlton "Silk" Owens - 2114
2. Tyson Wheeler - 1918
3. Ernie Calverley - 1868

...

11. EC Matthews - 1661

They have 13 regular season games left. Plus at least one A10 and one (if all goes as expected) NCAA game. That's 15 games. If he averages 18 per game the rest of the season, he'll finish with 1931, 13 more than Wheeler and in 2nd place. If he averages 17 a game, he'll finish with 1916, 2 behind Wheeler. for 3rd.

Right now he is averaging 14.2 for his career, so even if he averages exactly that, and they are upset in the A10 in one game, and also lose in the first game of the NCAA tourney, he'll still end up with 1874 points, 6 more than Calverley and good for 3rd all time.

Not bad.

Terrell is currently 17th on the list with 1463, 27 points behind Andre Samuel. Terrell is averaging 17.6 ppg this season. Going on that and the worst case scenario (only playing one A10 and one NCAA game), he'll score 264 more points for a total of 1727 points, moving him to 9th place over all (surpassing Kenny Green).

We could potentially graduate 2 top ten all time scorers!

OK, I have a question. All the years I have followed URI hoops Steve Chubin was the 1 scorer in URI history. Back in 88 I remember that if URI beat Temple in the Sweet Sixteen then Silk would have had a chance to pass Chubin. Now Chubin is 6th?? What changed?????

Chubin's points as a freshman didn't count back then. I guess the record book only counts his points for his soph to senior seasons.

Unfortunately, the ultimate authority on things like this passed away recently.....

You an also add in the fact that the more recent players had far more opportunities to score given many more games are played in a season now than many decades ago.

When Chubin played, freshmen couldn't play varsity. They had to play on the freshman team. I remember back in the 60s someone saying that the only team in the country that could beat the UCLA varsity was the ULLA freshman team. Either Alcindor or Walton was a frosh at the time. I can't remember which one.

Billboy,

UCLA was ranked #1 that year and they were defeated by the UCLA Freshman team led by Alcinder. It was the 1st year of the opening of Pauley Pavillion.

Freshmen became eligible to play Varsity in the 1972-73 season. Instead of Freshmen teams after the 1971-72 season, some schools had JV Teams (including URI) - but that did not last very long.

Looking at that a little more closely. ....wow, that '88 team really took the ball away. Between just Tommy, Silk and John Evans, they had 203 steals.

If you plug in a run to the A10 final - we have 9 games left before the NCAAT.

Stan is averaging 2.5 spg. That's 22.5 if he stays on average, so round up and he'd be at 79 going into the NCAAT. Very plausible he gives Tommy a run.

If we played 16 more games starting tonight, he'd easily break the record :D :D :D

Looking at the numbers. If EC Matthews hits his career average (14.9 ppg) in the next 2 games, he'll be in 5th by the end of Friday night. They have 6 regular season games. Worse case scenario, and we are upset in the first round of the A10 and also lose in the first round of the NCAA, Matthews will tie for 3rd with Calvery if he hits that 14.9 average. Assuming we do go to the A10 finals and make the sweet 16, that's 12 games, and at the same average, he'll have 1928, 10 more than Wheeler and good for 2nd all time. However, Silk's 2114 career total will be tough to beat unless either Matthews goes crazy and/or we go to the final four!

Of course I'm sure Matthews would rather go far into the tournament and end up in fifth.

Also, Terrell has a very real chance of finishing in the top 10 so this team will have two top ten all time teammates!

EC needs 1 point to pass Jimmy Baron for 5th place all time and 13 points to pass Sly Williams for 4th. Jared is currently in 12th, 53 points behind Will Daniels. Jeff has 142 assists, tied for 10th most in a seaon. He should easily end up 4th by the end of the season trailing only Tyson (twice) and Silk. That's pretty good....Stan is tied for 6th place for steals in a season with 58. He will easily end up 2nd behind only Tommy Garrick. He would need 31 more to pass Tommy.

Only three players have had more assists in a season than Jeff now...Parfait, Silk and Tyson (three times). Most likely Tyson will be the only one when the season ends....or if we play in 7 or so more games, maybe none....

EC is now within 8 points of tying Ernie Calverley for 3rd place all time points (1,868) scored for URI. Would likely need a deep NCAA run to challenge Tyson Wheeler at 1,918. No chance of reaching Silk Owens at 2,114.

Jared is already in the top ten for scoring with the chance to move ahead of a few others.
