Time to get out my Yuta Watanabe dart board. Can't wait to see who on our team is the first one to make him cry.

I’m still made at GW for messing with that game two years ago, switching the start times multiple times because of the weather and eventually giving Rhode Island a locker room the size of a coat closet to use. And, as always, there is Yuta (who I’m sure is a perfectly nice young man, but as a player? ugh).

The chosen one (Wahntenahbay, as Don Kaull says) is always overmatched against us.

Gotta come out with some more fire in this one.
Should be a blowout.
Let's get our first road win!

Rhody better not put in the same effort as against LaSalle last night. If so, they lose on the road at GW.

Worth noting that URI has yet to win a true road game as yet. It has only played two OOC true road games to date. Both however were at teams that have been nationally ranked. Both were close losses to good opponents that will likely make the NCAA tournament.

This should not be one of those games that they could lose, unless they come out flatter than a pancake and try to come back....on the road and the refs....good luck with that.

Maybe against VCU, or Dayton, or Bonnies.....but not this one. This would be a BAD loss.

They can probably win this with a C effort...
So long as they are close in the last three minutes and give an A effort at the end...they'll probably win...

A C effort puts us at their level.
B effort gets us a relatively comfy win.
A effort is a blow out win.

A efforts don't come easy away from the RC......we need more than just a couple of guys to play well in road games....we can get away with it at home most of the time, but not away from home.

Rhody will not be playing in very hostile environments for the next two games. Students are in break. This should be especially the case at GW as students typically make up a large percent of the fans in the Smith Center. That will not be the case this Saturday.

While acknowledging the unpredictability of conference away games, I would be disappointed if they lose either of the next two games. They have enough guys on the roster who have played in these places before and been through it.

I almost hate to mention this because, in the words of the great Michael Scott, “I’m not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.” But, wins in DC and Saint Louis gets them home to play Bona where a win would give Dan his 100th at Rhode Island (not that he’s thinking of that or even aware of it).

If they can get the next 2 and head into the Bonnies game at 4-0 and 12-3 it would be pretty exciting and the atmosphere would be great that day even with an 11am start

Yes I fully expect wins at GW and STL

I think our biggest road tests will be Bona Dayton and VCU those won't be easy at all

Rhody will be able to maximize their number of possessions in this game. Looking at the metrics, the one that stands out to me the most is that URI's offense is top #20 in D1 in turnover rate at 15.4% (D1 average is 19.1%) while GW's defense is abysmal at turning teams over (only 17.3%). Limiting turnovers will allow for a few extra possessions resulting in shots for Rhody.

The second most glaring stat is that 26.3% of GW's points come from beyond the arc and they are wildly ineffective at shooting the 3-ball (30.8% while D1 average is 35%).

Rhody will limit turnovers and force GW into bad shots leading to the first true road win.

FWIW - No current Ram, player or coach, has yet to win at GW with URI.

That is pretty incredible at first blush, but I guess thinking about it some more GW is not a home-and-home partner so this is only this regime's third crack and only the second crack for the players on the team: the first was EC's freshman year where a rebuilding URI lost to a tournament-bound GW and the second was during the wasted year EC missed due to his ACL injury where the depleted Rams lost to the eventual NIT Champion Colonials. So in that context, it makes a little sense. URI did beat GW twice in the year between those two seasons, with the second coming on a neutral court in the A-10 quarterfinals in Brooklyn.

Totally forgot that GW has Rhode Island and Mendrickens own Freshman guard Justin Mazzulla. Not as good as his brother, but still talented.

Pretty amazing stat

Since Dowtin was inserted into the starting lineup midway through last season, the Rams are 25-7.

Ramster - even more amazing when you look at what URI has played in that stretch. Two of the losses were to Fordham and Richmond, which are not great but every team will have a couple of those over the course of a season. The other five were all to top-25ish RPI teams: Dayton, Oregon, Nevada, Virginia and Alabama. Included in the wins are Seton Hall, Providence, Creighton in the NCAA tournament and VCU twice (one was for A-10 championship), among other good wins. Also beat Davidson three times and Bonnies twice in that stretch.

"GW pulls out a close one. Although I think Rhody has us on talent, I don't think Hurley is a good coach. He gets great talent on name alone and hasn't done squat with it the past 5 years.

Key to this will be our scouting report and execution based on that report. Not sure which assistant is best at doing the scouting reports on opposing team, but hopefully this game has the best one and our players follow it."

When I see comments like this it makes me really want to blow them out. Plus I turn 30 tomorrow so we have to win.

So winning a A-10 title, winning a game in the NCAA tourney, and coming within a minute of upsetting a final four team means DH is a bad coach haha, that GW poster is thunder deuce

Pretty preposterous statement.

He "thinks" we have more talent?

The same talent that knocked off those Garino and Larsen teams?

So, the weakest team GW has had since Hobbes is going to pull it out.

K.

And also not surprising that TJ lost there in Baron’s last year.

Also, I wonder if Dan knows he could just “recruit on name alone.” He is working WAY too hard if that possibility is out there.
