Action on Friday, Jan. 5 is confined to games involving URI OOC opponents:

Holy Cross at Lehigh. 6 PM.

Charleston at Drexel. 7 PM. Charleston is in a similar situation to URI vs. GW, as they face a Drexel team they are better than, but one that is capable of playing strong game on their home court and pulling an upset.

St. Peter's at Iona. 7 PM. ON ESPNU. After a bad loss to Canisius, let's see if the Gaels at home can get their mojo back.

No. Brothers Hurley will not agree to play a game where it is guaranteed that one of them lose. Dan and Bobby talk after every single game. I can't even imagine how, if forced to play each other, they wouldn't lose their minds at the thought of it.

A scheduled NCAA tournament game has been deemed somewhat potentially tolerable, so... progress, I guess!

That would be amazing. Bob Sr. Would have a stroke.

Is it just me or are the stands at Iona super dark? Not that theres a big crowd, but the fans that are there get swallowed up by the inky black after like a few rows. Maybe this is like a Lovecraftian arena.

Holy Cross loses its 11th game of season as they fall at Lehigh, 83-77. The defeat just about assures the Crusaders ion a losing season.

Charleston let this game get out of control from the beginning as the Cougars trailed most of time by upwards of 10 points to lose in overtime to a so-so Drexel team, 87-82. The trials and tribulations of road games are ever present.

Iona had to come from behind on its home court to beat an average St. Peter's team, 73-69.

You know they won't hold back at all.
A tech each at least.
Backyard brawl.

I would imagine the NCAA would feel inclined to try to make that happen in the tournament.

ASU as a 2 seed and URI in the 7-10 game. make it a second round game so the committee can say they didn't look ahead

PC is up by 7 on Xavier with 6:47 to go

If PC loses their expected RPI will be 71, with a win it will be 64

PC is going to hold on. To the argument that has been going on here lately: I'm a little conflicted. Nobody hates PC more than I do, but them winning is good for us. I kind of feel like it's a win/win - if they lose that always makes me happy on a visceral level, and if they win it's good for Rhody and that makes me happy on a more logical level.

I think realistically for this year, because we didn't win any of the Alabam, Nevada or Virginia games, we really need that PC win to be as good as possible.

To be honest, the way Xavier and Chris Mack acted towards the A10 just one year after bolting for the new Big East, there is no love lost. I probably hate Xavier as much if not more. I used to root for them in the tourney until they left and Mack started his "the A10 doesn't deserve bid's over the Big East" crap. Dude, your team was in the league for 20 years. Sit the F down!

50 doesn't matter. It's top 30 for them to be a quadrant 1 win or 31-75 to be quadrant 2

Yup all the teams we play twice we should be rooting for against any other A10 team. Would be good if LaSalle can really separate and become maybe the clear 3rd team. They have too far to climb to become an at-large threat, but a really good conference showing could sneak them into the top-75 potentially (which is good since we play them on the road).

PC beating Xavier also keeps the casual/borderline fans in the area leaning towards being PC fans, so there's that....as we are trying to gain new fans to fill up the RC. Looking at it from a business standpoint, we are in the same market competing for the same customers. I guess that doesn't matter though.

Why? Are we not competing for the same customers? Especially the casual/borderline customers? We're still quite a ways from filling the RC every night. Where are these people coming from?

So if PC loses today we get more people coming to the Ryan Center a week from today? That's a ridiculous assertion that has no basis in reality

No, it's not one game, it's cumulative. Everyone here wants PC to have great season to help our RPI. Well, that's fine, but it also keeps them as the main attraction in the state. If there are 8,9, 10 year olds just becoming interested in basketball, what team do you expect they will follow? Many will become lifelong fans. We need to become the #1 attraction in the state for basketball fans. That won't happen until we overtake them. Since they're already there, it won't change until we are great for a while and they suck for a while. I know you don't believe that. But it's been this way for a long, long time. That's why there are many generations of PC fans in this state.

I think PC beating a top-5 program does more to help our credibility in the state than divert interest from us in a year in which we beat PC. Eliminates the "well it was a down year for PC" excuse.
