Week #9 began on the first day of year, so Happy New Year all Ram fans.

URI retains its two votes in the AP poll and five votes in the USA Today poll. St. Bonaventure is the only other A-10 team garnering votes, and in the AP poll, the Bonnies improve their vote total from five to seven, but get no votes in the USA Today Poll. Seton Hall retains the #21 ranking in the AP poll and also gets the # 21 in the US Today poll. Virginia moves up to #8 in both polls. Nevada gets 2 votes in the AP poll and one vote in the coaches' poll. Alabama gets one vote in the AP poll and three in the coaches' poll.

Michigan State is the new #1 in both polls.

The cumulative won-lost records of URI OOC opponents now stands at 100-54, .649 slightly up from the previous week.

The key ratings for URI at the start of Week #9 are:

RPI - 23, down six. The expected RPI is 28.
BPI - 44, up six.
Sagarin - 43, up two.
Pomeroy - 47, up four.

A-10 Conference RPI positioning remains at #10.

There were no Monday games in either the A-10 or among URI OOC opponents.

Nor are there any A-10 games on Tuesday evening.

Games among URI OOC opponents on Tuesday:

Alabama at Vanderbilt. 7 PM. On SECN.

Delaware at Charleston. 7 PM.

Holy Cross at Lafayette. 7 PM.

We only play the Hawks once this season and it is more than three weeks out at home on February 27th. If he comes back, we would see him. It however may not make much sense for him to return given more than half the season will be over and his return will not significantly impact the SJU program this year (they are currently 5-7 with an RPI of #221 with little chance of the NCAA or even NIT). Given they have another player (Kimble) redshirting this season , it is likely better for the program for him to sit out and return next season.

Plus, how effective would Brown be after such a long layoff?

Charleston wins easily over Delaware.

Holy Cross falls at Lafayette and Alabama's comeback bid at Vandy falls short.

Not a good loss for Bama

SEC looks better than it has in years and Big 12 is very deep this year

Makes up for a really bad Big10. with Wichita State going to the AAC this year, the conferences outside of P5+BE, AAC, getting more then 1 bid will be very very limited.

We play both twice, so no tiebraker there. I'd say Bonaventure. Dayton is probably a middle of the pack at best team this year, so you want Bonaventure to be as good as possible.

Not sure if mentioned before but good news for URI, (although I never want to see somebody get hurt)

Notre Dame losing Bonzie Colson Jr. for 2 months will help URI. ND should take quite a hit.
Maryland losing Justin Jackson for season. Maryland will be a weaker team as well.

As teams become less formidable it allows for other teams to move up.

Tough news for Bonzie , glad to see him turn out to be a great player as who could forget what his dad did for the 88 team

Eric Williams Jr - 12 rebounds, 21 points hit 5 of 6 threes. Could be freshman of the year in A10. Leads Duquesne to win over GW
Dayton taking it to St Bonaventure

Again, crap games......this league is barf city this year.

VCU falls victim to the refs at St. Joes.....some things never change.

We will stomp the Bonnies at home....no doubt in my mind.

Duquesne is a surprise so far....but how good are they really?

Go home, A10, you’re drunk.

Up is down, black is white, Duquesne maybe doesn’t suck?

George Mason notched the first win by a road team tonight in the A10. It appears the home teams will be 13-1 through the first 2 set of games in the A10

So far it’s Rhody and the rest of the A10, kind of shocked by The Bonnie’s loss.

probably true, but will feel much more confident once we get a road win or two. they've been tough to come by in the first 2 games of conference play.

Us and Duquesne at the top 2-0.

Keith Dambrot is no slouch!

We might need some F efforts to find losses tis year...

Any loss will obviously be a disappointment. I just don't see us collapsing in that event.

It appears the A-10 is going to be quite the mess this year. I mean, I expected URI, Bonnies, & VCU to be good teams with URI being the best of the bunch, but now it looks like it's just Rhody who's going to be at the top and then there will be everyone else. I'm not sure I've ever seen the A10 this weak before.

We just need to take care of business and stay healthy and we will be fine

Don't take anybody lightly come to play every night and we will do no worse than 14-4 and should lock up a bid prior to the A10 tournament

When you are on the road in the a10 teams will get you. We have not won a true road game this year. Dayton vcu and Bonnie’s are all games uri could easily lose on the road. We will be fine as a team if we 15-3 in conference, but those are going to be some of our separation games.

agree...not quite ready to write off the bonnies for a road loss to Dayton. there has only been one road win in conference after 2 games. all we have done is take care of business at home. separation is a good word. until a contender beats another contender on the road, there is no separation and the conference is up for grabs.

Not trying to be negative but we need to play better than we did last night, or we will find ourselves with L's on the road like the Bonnies just did.

And be ready for another abortion at Hagan as always happens.

Keep in mind that when you go to St. Joe's you're playing five against eight. Maybe that will change when Young Frankenstein retires, but for now, expect a screw job when you go there.

Wyoming gave Nevada a tussle in the first half, but Cody Martin's strong second half contributed to the Wolfpack pulling away for their 13th consecutive home win, 92-83. The Mountain West race looks like it is coming down to a battle between Nevada and Boise State. The two teams will meet in their first confrontation on Jan. 20 in Reno.

Harsh reminder of conference play... ASU just lost on the road to Colorado. They were 10 point favorites. 3 point shooting (or lack thereof) killed them.

Great game on Saturday............

No. 7 Oklahoma at No. 6 West Virginia (7:15 p.m. ET, ESPN2/WatchESPN). Watch the country’s best playmaker, Sooners freshman Trae Young, square off with arguably the country’s best backcourt defender, Mountaineers senior Jevon Carter.

I'd like to see how well our guards do against Trae Young.

I'm sure Fatts would too...
