Happy New Year everyone!

First Half observations...

Positives:
- EC looks to be all the way back
- Nice to see Jeff assert himself on the offensive end
- Nik helped pick up some slack when the other big guys went out with foul trouble
- We pretty much played like butt and still have the lead.

Neutral:
- Good put back by Preston. Looks like he can play well above the rim, so would it kill one of our guards to run a designed alley-oop for him.
- LaSalle can't make any shot either. Not sure how much of that is our D as they've had a lot of open looks.

Negatives:
- Horrible shooting half for JT.
- Not a great half for Berry either, missed several bunnies up close.
- Fatts needs a confidence boost ASAP. Not the same player we saw early this season or in the PC game. That happens with Freshmen, but we need him.

LaSalle will finish the year in the bottom half of the conference IMO. It's not like Rhody came out lazy or took them for granted, they're just not making any shots. I expect a much better 2nd half.

Just like that JT with a quick bucket and a 3 to start the half.

Dan looked pretty pissed in the huddle though...was it the missed rotation on the other end that allowed a LaSalle 3?

I'll never understand trying to kill the clock with 6 minutes left. Totally kills momentum. Also creates desperate, forced shots as the shot clock is running out.

Good thing they had this game at home. On the road this may have been an L. Just a lackluster performance by the team, even though they won by 12. Glad for the win but it wasn't pretty.

Every game that EC leads us SHOULD give selection committee reason to rank us higher as 2 of or 3 losses came without EC.

In the six games since the PC game, Fatts Russell's 3 point shooting stands at 2-19,10.5%.

Freshman gonna freshman. Fatts thrives on confidence... needs to get his shot more consistent, feel better about himself, and he’ll be fine. Lucky for Rhody, he’s 1 of 6.

EC seemed to get a lot of rebounds too. Fatts has hit the wall. He'll play thru it. The defensive intensity was there the entire game. A little lackluster but a win. Akele and Preston helped tonight in their limited minutes.

Not many style points for Rhody. Did what they had to. EC carried them. The six point possession midway in the 2nd half was a turning point (EC made basket, LaSalle foul, URI got ball back and EC made three-got fouled-made ft). Lively crowd for its size. Continuously tried to get the team going. The Jamestown Community band (adults) was good.

All in all, a good night. Got a win and a nice winter hat for free. Can't beat that.

EC clearly was tonight's star, but there was a stretch where he mishandled the ball three straight times. Frustrating to see. Jeff was more aggressive going to the basket, making his shots count. I don't recall him attempting anything outside 10-15 feet. He was occupied with Pookie and was steady defensively.
Stan was frustrated with foul trouble, but he did have a nice three-point play in the second half when LaSalle was threatening to come back.
JT had a tough first half, but came alive in the second. Made a couple of bad decisions trying to force the ball inside.
Cyril had a better game defensively despite getting 2 quick fouls in the first half. It was nice to see Ryan Preston getting some PT. He had a nice putback.
Fatts looks lost offensively, but he played hard defensively and made a couple of nice assists. He didn't let his shooting woes bother him at the free throw line, going 5-5.
Andre didn't have a good game. It wasn't a good matchup for him.

ugly game, but at this point of the season style points mean nothing. i'll take the win. will surely have to play/shoot better to win on the road. if last year taught us anything it's that it is most important to be playing your best at the end of the year. for now let's just keep racking up the Ws.

What's interesting is that, it seems the more times EC shoots, the better. And what's amazing is Dowtin's number of turnovers.
Not sure what the rate is, but probably great so far this year and another 35 mins tonight without one...great stuff.
Also, looks like he could be more of a scorer if given the chance.

Just keep winning and rooting for their OOC opponents. Thinking if they can get to 7-0 in conference (by beating Dayton on my b'day), might see them Top 25 ranked again?

Not a bad win by 12 at home over a decent conference foe

EC star of the game with 24 points

Cyril played well I thought

Berry not doing much

I can see why DH upsets too many breakdowns defensively gave them easy baskets

This was basically my exact thought after the game. Every team has games like this throughout the year where maybe the effort just isn't there or something is off. It's nice to be at a point where those games are still double digit victories.

Right we have come a long way, before a game like this would have been a loss by a few points now it's a 12 point win !!!

They were the first team to completely sag off, go under screens, and dare us to shoot. Gave us all kinds of room 15-20 feet from the hoop. We were like a deer in headlights at times with many of our better perimeter guys hesitant to shoot, or heads down to the rim at other times -- the latter often leading to steals from their quick handed guards.

Fatts is going to be fine. He's a freshman, and he's a player used to being the alpha scorer that is like the 19th option now. He's unsure when and where to be aggressive on offensive side, that will all go away in future years...that said, he is a force on defensive end and has a presence when he is in the game at all times. He;s a scorer, not a shooter, and right now we don't need scoring.

we clearly did not play well last night..
but survive and advance..
we got the win and now onto the next game...

couple of obvious thoughts..

cyril - needs to work on a 10 foot jumper for next year
fatts - looks like a different player than the PC game - i am hoping that crazy shot late he made will get his swagger back
JT - i like it better when he drives the bal early - hit a few shots - then get his jumper going.. come on kid.. need your swagger back as well

let's go Rhody
onto GW !

i thought he hit one late that danced around the rim..

apparently not !

but i am blaming this one on the STREAM and not seeing it correctly !

You’re probably thinking of the 3 pointer he was fouled on. He got up, even though he missed the shot and had that swagger as he went to the line and sunk 3 FT’s. The first time he had that look in his eyes in the past few games. So you’re not far off.. :D :D

ha.. that one i saw.. the one i was thinking of came about 5 feet from the hoop

whoever it was.. he sure has the swagger now.. LOL

let's gooooo FATTS !

in some ways it is even more sweet now that he showed up when we needed him vs PC !

They did miss some layups on "breakaways" when they didn't really have the numbers. 1 on 2 or 2 on 2. I'd like to see them pull back out and reset on those.

Agreed. There was some poor decision-making. I recall one play where JT tried to force the ball inside when Cyril was surrrounded by 3 or 4 Explorers. It would've been better for Terrell to step back and try a trey.

Ugly game, but that's what top teams do...lay an egg and still win. Everyone has off nights.

Not worried about Fatts. Typical freshman finding his place stuff. He'll find the balance between attack and facilitate

.....regarding the Cyril thought on developing a 10 foot range jumper......IMHO, his offseason time and practice player development should be working on his hands in receiving the entry pass, footwork in the lane and put backs w/o the bounce......rather than the jumper.....no?

Why should it be either/or? Can't he work on all these things?
