Might as well just name this award after him for the rest of the season.

I like when Katz interviewed him and asked him about other schools and his height. Or Philly rivalries.

He was like IDK man I like it here. NEXT QUESTION. That's a URI attitude to me. Some people just love it. Others not so much.

But if it is for you. Then that's it. Not worried about anything else.

Fatts is another asset we could be using to "brand" the program. He is the epitome of our brand of basketball - tough, scrappy, challenger, fearless.
On top of that he is already a fan favorite - the name "Fatts", the dimunitive size, the Philly swag, so much there to work with.
Let's hope someone in Kingston is thinking of ways to use that to market our program.

Love how he pumped fake and got those 3 free throws in a very key spot

Some guys are just born scorers and he is one of them even though he is under 6 feet

I agree with the sentiments here.......showcase our players around the state......I remember seeing TJ on bus ads in the past.....billboards with a collage of our kids....start branding Fatts and Dowtin as the future....

Continue to do it with Jared, Jarvis and EC. They've all been here's at one time or another. But Fatts deseve's to be marketed as well.

Is there a reason some want to promote all of the seniors except Stan?

The time to promote our current players has almost come and gone.
We should have branding the program in the late summer and fall...and i would have created a campaign using Dan, EC and Jared as the face of the program. But we have been over this ad nauseum...a golden opportunity was missed between August - December to brand the program and build our fanbase. Then when news like "#1 mid major recruiting class" and beating PC happened it would have had a snowball impact.

Since some think winning games (especially PC) and selling beer are the only things that drive interest and attendance can we find out how many mini plans have been purchased since Saturday? We do sell beer.

Yes Reef this was a great, savvy play, in a critical spot. I forgot about that. And he nailed all three FT's.

This kid is "the man". He was a man among PC boys during the last game in my opinion. He literally made them look just foolish. The drive to the basket before the half, past two or three guys much taller than him for a reverse layup at the buzzer. The pesky defense. The 3-point shot from the corner off a brilliant pass from Jarvis. This kid had brass balls. He showed up in a big way in probably what has been the biggest game of his life thus far in front of a sold out Ryan Center...and he's a Freshman. In my opinion, this kid has Tyson Wheeler type potential, possibly even better. He was going 100mph with his dribble and never looked like he was about to loose control of the ball. The basketball IQ on this guy is amazing...to have the situational awareness to draw 3 fouls shots out of nothing was incredible. That offensive possession was dead in the water and then ****"CLEEEAR"**** brought it back to life with a Paul Pierce-like 3pt shot fake.
I don't say this often or hardly at all, but I'm sold on Fatts...hook, line, and sinker. Oh and did I mention the passing in traffic....JUST AWESOME! I am officially in the Daron "Fatts" Russell fan club.
We're not worthy!
We're not worthy!
We're not worthy!

Not only did he draw the foul on the fake 3 point shot he then went to the line and hit all three of the free throws. You could see the wind go out of PC's sail. Such a senior heads up play. Genius level basketball IQ.

He's shooting 83.3% so far on free throws. Great stat, especially seeing as he should continually draw fouls getting to the hoop.

I can’t stress enough how much this is bothering me :)

He’s on the roster. Why isn’t he listed in the stats? Get it together, ESPN.

That should be the last straw, Ace. No more ESPN. They fired all their college basketball writing talent. I support CBS Sports and The Athletic these days.

Paying for stuff is weak, though. I don't pay covers at bars and I don't pay to read stuff on the internet.

Agreed. Their content is great, and they have nearly every writer I always made a point of reading. When Dana O’Neil came aboard, I was sold.

In a half time discussion, Blue Man said he felt Fatts was
like Tyson Wheeler.
I think he's more like Silk Owens.
Silk was listed at 6', but that was generous.
He was a ballhawking, scoring machine,
who played with a bullet in his arm, and feared nothing.
He had his NYC attitude from day one.
Slept on the bus ride on the way to play Syracuse.
Total ice-water in his veins.
I see Fatts cut from the same cloth as Silk Owens.
As big a compliment as a Rhody fan can give IMO.

I can't wait to play GW, I'm putting the over/under on amount of times our defense makes Watanabe literally cry on the court at 7. (Hint: Take the over)

Rod, great point! I was thinking he was like Wheeler myself, but reading your points, Silk is more accurate.

Man if he can be as good as those guys we are in for a treat
Great point about his free throws as he will get to the line plenty with his speed and quickness
Also love what a pest he is on D as his hands always seem to get on the ball
He just needs to avoid those ticky tacks 40 feet away from the hoop

I mentioned in another post that I met Fatts brother Dewayne last year when he played for GCU at Mohegan. He said that Fatts will be better than him over his career, and Dewayne was the WAC player of the year last year. Part of the reason was that Dewayne didn't know if he could compete at this level, and wasn't confident in his abilities until his redshirt junior year. He said Fatts saw what Dewayne did and knew he could play at a high level.

URI also caught a break in that Fatts moved from Arizona, and played in Philly.

And Silk is our only 2000 pt. scorer. Long ways away, but I wonder if Fatts is the next. He's going to score a lot of points, especially beginning next year.

CBS sports named the top 10 freshman in the country so far. Number 10 was some guy from the A-10. I commented that he wasn't even the best freshman in the conference never mind the 10th best in the country.
