Get Tertesea in the game or cut him. He’s athletic and our tallest player. Just try it. I’m sick of seeing s forward from holy cross dominate Uri

Tertsea is not ready... Give him time to develop...

Look at Berry he barely played and now he's been arguably our best big man so far this year. Not every player we land will contribute right away. Tertsea has a body that could end up being a big piece in the future, but he's not going to be playing any minutes right now.

Really interestingbto see JT just take over as the alpha when EC is out. It's almost like he plays a different game when EC isn't there. It's got to be tough when you have another star scorer out there to decide whether or not you defer.

Nice 2nd half adjustments. This team needs to run to be successful especially without Cyril.

Seton Hall is going eat our lunch inside. We need to shoot lights out from 3 to have a chance.

Good second half shooting and effort. Berry was especially impressive against the small lineup
of Holy Cross. JT stepped up as they will need him to continue to do against the better teams
coming up on the schedule. I would like to see Layssard get more opportunities. He looks like
he is gaining confidence and his size could help. Nice effort from akele and basically all around.

If there was any doubt that this team is actually good and it's not a figment of our imagination, blowing out Holy Cross down the two guys that could have been an acceptable answer to "who are the two most important players on the Rams this season?" before the season started is a helpful data point.

Holy Cross is not a great team, but I think they are a competitive team. This doesn't tell us anything about how next weekend will go, but it does tell us that we are unlikely to fold up without EC.

Rhody was bigger and had more scorers, but the interior D still seems like a concern...

So...despite the offensive output for Berry...

Was it just me, or did he get burned a good half dozen or so times on D? whether it was he just couldn't keep up with a switch or just wasn't quick enough to pickup/close when needed?

I don't know the number but he did get beat a couple of times. He also gave up on a couple of rebounds that Cyril would've fought for.

Back from the game....

- Heard shortly after entering building that Langevine had a groin injury. Looked for a while like Preston might start since he had his warmup off early but Garrett and Robinson started for Mathews and Langevine
- Horly Cross was a decent team. Passed well, had some big men who could hit the 3 ball, game was tied until Terrell hit a 3 from the corner with 7 seconds left in the 1st half - assisted by Dowtin
- Berry had a nice statistical game with 20 points - but the passes in to him were what enabled most of the hoops:
How he got his 9 FG's: 3 Assists from JD, 2 from JG, 1 SR, 1 JT and two from Offensive rebounds
1. Assist Robinson
2. Assist Dowtin
3. Offensive Rebound Put Back
4. Assist Garrett
5. Offensive Rebound Put Back
6. Assist Dowtin
7. Assist Dowtin
8. Assist Terrell
9. Assist Garrett
- Robinson had 4 steals in the 1st half alone
- Bill Reynolds of the Projo was at the game
- Bob Hurley Sr was at the game behind the URI bench
DH walked down the bench a minute into the game and told the guys to clap, stand up and show enthusiasm - I'm paraphrasing
- Low turnout of students - surprised me how low
- Preston got beat badly on defense on one play in the 1st half. DH and staff definitely notice the defensive good and bad of each player on the floor. It is no secret that defensive intensity is a very high priority of this Coaching Staff
- Believe it or not, Jeff Dowtin leads the team in Blocked Shots with 2. Only 1 Block by the team in this game today. Much different defensive style to last season without the rim protectors Martin and Iverson.
- Fatts came into the game after just 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Very quick feet on defense and covers his man very well
- Dowtin made me think of a surgeon today the way he passed the ball. He had 9 assists and zero turnovers but many of his assists were thrown with great precision and excellent timing to Berry and others down low. They could be viewed as high risk passes but the players seem to know that Jeff may be looking for them and they are ready to receive the ball.
- A game that could have gone either way, I was just hoping for a win - much closer game than the final score indicates
- Mike Layssard looked good in his short time at the end. He partially blocked a shot from the top of the key but for some reason it does not show in the statistics. He looked good on two field goals, catching a nice pass down low and put it in strong. He ran the floor well. I hope he gets to see more time.
- Nice effort by Akele defensively and rebounding
- Good games from Garrett and Terrell especially in the 2nd half
- I honestly did not even think about there being referees in the game today - seemed to be a quiet, well called game to me
- Girl who sang the National Anthem was excellent

I watched the entire game and came away happy. They hung right with us and we took care of business in the 2h

JT so fun to watch and can score in a variety of ways nice job with 25

JG very much improved over last year

JD very fun to watch when on the break needs to improve his shooting

Berry can score down low with that touch and outside just worried about his D

Akele looks improved you can tell he takes coaching well

Only 14 fouls committed!
That's a real improvement.

Liked that we started to blow them out, rather than some type of sluggish performance that goes to the wire.
We are going to be alright.

We might need Cyril against seton hall.
Hope we are just getting these injures out of the way in November....

I thought we played well....good balance offensively and we limited our fouls a bit today which was nice to see. I'm hoping Cyril's groin isn't that serious. Dan said on the post game show that next week he is questionable at best. That highly concerns me. Dan mentioned that he had the groin issue against Nevada and that reflected in his poor play. So who knows but I'm optomistic he'll be ready for next week.

Went to the game and left with 5 min to play and up 20.

HC couldn't defend Berry. We didn't defend the three very well.

My thoughts on EC. When he returned last year he didn't shoot well from the outside, couldn't elevate when he went to the hoop with the ball and wasn't an effective defender. He is no longer a pro prospect. His shooting didn't improve this year and is unlikely to be better when he returns from a wrist injury to his shooting wrist. He'll be a good college player - that's it. On a par with Jared, Stan, Jarvis, Jeff and Cyril. We'll be fine until EC returns. Then, we will have more depth.

Without Cyril we will not beat tournament quality teams.

Stan and Jeff will play better than we are seeing right now,

When we went down 26-25, I felt that we would wear HC down and win by 15-20.

As for the crowd. We won't get big crowds until we get big wins.

Can't play four guards and Berry alone in the front court. He's too slow to protect the basket and isn't a shot blocking threat. URI looked better today the few times they played two front court players, hope Dan see's that and adjusts.

8 fouls in first half...the first time rhody has not given its opponent the double bonus with 10 minutes to go in a half since forever.

Then they do it one better (actually 2!) and have only 6 fouls in the second.

And the game took less than 2 hours. :D :D :D

Ideally it shouldn't matter who we are playing, we should get bigger crowds. I thought Donaldson had a good point. How do the PBruins get 8000 to go to a minor league hockey game on a Sunday afternoon?

PBruins are a marketing machine, that's why!

I'm not ignoring that fact, but keep in mind they average 7000-8000 fans over 40 games per year. 40 games!

To me that says there are plenty of people looking for sporting events to go to and PBruins are capturing the bulk of that audience. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to get 6500 for 15 or 16 home games per year. None.

Koch says we have 44,000 alum living in Rhode Island and we have 7500 people going to every PBruins home game. You don't think there is something odd about that?

Location, location, location.

URI will draw well when the game justifies it being what people are going to do with their day, but things in Providence are always going to draw well all things being equal. First, there is just a bigger pool of potential attendees, and second the central location means that people can go to a game or a show before or after they do something else - do Christmas shopping at the mall, meet friends for lunch or dinner, etc. I know it doesn't feel like it to the people that live down there, but South County is annoying to travel to/from.

I come to games from Boston; I've made it a point to try to go to every weekend game since I've moved back from New York, and I probably make it to 80% of them. But if I go to a 1PM game in Kingston I have to leave my house at 11am and I won't get home before 5pm, and that is if I don't meet friends before or after the game. That is a huge time commitment the week of Thanksgiving, when everyone (myself included) has a million things they are trying to do and weekend hours are precious. That's why for me I never even considered going to this HC game, and attendance shows I'm not the only one. Until the program has had a long sustained record of success, you're going to have these kinds of games where the calendar and the opponent are conspiring against high turnout. I'm sorry, but that is just the way it is.

I was shocked by the attendance. I know there are a lot of people preparing for Thanksgiving, football is on, kids go home early, yadda yadda yadda. Blah blah blah. Maybe a 1PM start time was awkward? I believe the home game against St. Bonnie's is a Saturday 11AM start. I wonder what the attendance will be for that one.

I wonder how many other teams that are coming off a conference championship and at least one NCAA win have this type of attendance problem.

I haven't been able to go to the first two home games because my primary residence is now Florida but I made sure my seats were spoken for. I feel like I have a responsibility to make sure those seats are filled.

Also, because it's a game against Holy Cross on a Sunday we just shouldn't care? We should just accept this? Naaaa, we don't need to market this game.. We're not going to get many people anyway. Such Rhode Island thinking.

We as fans are to blame if we are not filling our seats and the marketing department is to blame by not putting butts in seats.

.......attendance; I will be disappointed but will live with a small incremental annual increase in home attendance each year Dan is here.....maybe 4 tickets, 4 popcorns, sodas will turn into mini packs, turning into season tickets as long as the national profile is developed and sustained.....developing committed Rhody fans from the casual walk up fan in South County is a steep uphill climb......

There were three empty seats down to the left of me (closest to the HC bench). Inexcusable.

So much of Rhode Island has backwards thinking. As much as people say "oh people from South County don't go north of the tower". I cannot tell you how many people north of Warwick never go to Warwick or south because it's also deemed "too far". I commute daily from South County to Providence and all in all it's an hour up each morning.

The Athletic Department desperately needs a marketing overhaul.

We 100% should be marketing the game more, probably more than we do for other games where we expect better attendance. That kind of factors into my thinking on this - I'm taking into account the fact that we don't do that. Absolutely we should be marketing the game, especially locally in South County, to try to offset some of the attrition that is going to occur with games against off-brand opponents scheduled in the middle of the afternoon during the holiday push. I'm not saying accept it, I'm just trying to account for what the problem is, and unfortunately I think it will continue this way.

look no further than the Friars last year. Coming of 4 consecutive appearances and 1 year removed from a Big East Title...

We were their largest OOC attendance by 4,000...12,800 sell out.

The next largest OOC crowd was 8,310 for opening night against Vermont.

they had attendances of

4,208 against St Francis (32% capacity)
4,801 against NH (37% capacity)
4,069 against Wagner (31% capacity)
4,257 against Maine (33% capacity)

So what can we do as fans, alum, donors to push on this issue within the athletic department?

I asked Bill Koch on Twitter what our marketing budget is relative to other A10 schools and whether or not that budget was being spent effectively.

Who runs the marketing for athletics now? I'd be willing to reach out to them and try to understand what their constraints are.

I guess we are sharing the same marketing practices
