For this coming Monday URI will likely set another record as the highest ever AP In-Season Ranking with the Current #18 being the best ever.
Every week since the last loss, 15 games ago, URI has steadily increased standing, averaging about 3 spots per week.
It gets tougher the higher we go since only 17 teams now in front.

Looks like we should move ahead of Oklahoma, ahead of Arizona and ahead of the loser of #12 Gonzaga - #11 St Mary's tonight to go to at least #15

We should really root for Alabama tonight against Tennessee!!! and root for Iowa against Ohio State!!! and root for Baylor to beat Kansas!!!

AP Top 25
RK TEAM RECORD PTS
10) Kansas (18-5) 1,015 - Beat TCU at home by 7 and were favored by 7. Play @ Baylor today favored by 2 points. 2pm. Kansas loses to Baylor by 16 points

11) Saint Mary's (23-2) 895 -Won @ Loyola Marymount by 21 were favored by 12.5. Play @ #12 Ranked Gonzaga Home tonight favored by 2 points. 10pm.

12) Gonzaga (21-4) 851 - Won @ Pacific by 10 were favored by 13. Play @ #11 Ranked St Mary's tonight underdogs by 2 points. 10pm.

13) Arizona (19-5) 816 - Lost to UCLA by 8 after being favored at home by 9.5. Play USC today at home favored by 5.5 points. 10:15pm

14) Ohio State (20-5) 747 - Big upset @ Purdue by 2 points being underdogs by 10. Play Iowa at home today favored by 13.3. 6pm Ohio State beats Iowa by 18

15) Tennessee (17-5) 739 - Beat Kentucky on the road by 2 being underdogs by 2. Play @ Alabama today Tennessee favored by 2 points. 6pm Alabama crushes Tennessee by 28 points

16) Clemson (19-4) 720 - Crushed Pittsburgh 72-48 being favored by 18. Lost Donte Grantham for the season Jan. 20 with an ACL. No games this weekend

17) Oklahoma (16-6) 636 - Lost to WVU at home. Have lost ATS (Against the spread 7 of last 8 games) Play at Iowa State today favored by 5.5 points. 2pm Oklahoma loses to Iowa State by 8 points

18) Rhode Island (19-3) 486

We are sure to pass #17 Oklahoma and #15 Tennessee. Also likely to pass the loser of #12 Gonzaga and #11 St Mary's putting us at #15 Monday
Plus if USC defeats Arizona that will be another slot upwards
Baylor defeating #10 Kansas by a big 16 points could work in our favor - hopefully
Our powerful win over 2nd place Davidson was very convincing and could help us leapfrog Clemson? Kansas?

#19 West Virginia losing today to Oklahoma State in Morgantown prevents any chance that WVU could leapfrog URI

IDK, if St. Mary’s wins again I could see Gonzaga dropping. If Gonzaga wins you might not see a ton of movement for either team in either direction.

No East Tenn State at 16 longest streak they mentioned that on the zags broadcast

I think we will be 16 in the AP

UNC may leap us

I hope we pass St Mary's

I’m thinking 15...St Mary’s lopsided loss at home, even though it was the Zags may put them 16-17ish. UNC leapfrogs us with 2 good wins.

This is a tough one. Pass Oklahoma, but NC passes us. Should think we pass Tenn. Tenn clobbered by Alabama @ Alabama. But Tenn also beat #24 Ky @ Ky, so Tenn may not fall behind us. That may put us either 16 or 17. I'll be hopeful and go with 16, outside chance at 15....

Wildcard may be how many writers not really familiar with us, because we're RI, not Duke, watched us on a Friday nite game. That exposure should have impressed writers who may not have seen us before.

Play #12 Ranked Gonzaga Home tonight favored by 2 points. 10pm. St Mary's loses to Gonzaga on their Home Court by 13 points

13) Arizona (19-5) 816 - Lost to UCLA by 8 after being favored at home by 9.5. Play USC today at home favored by 5.5 points. 10:15pm Arizona beats USC by 14 points

14) Ohio State (20-5) 747 - Big upset @ Purdue by 2 points being underdogs by 10. Play Iowa at home today favored by 13.3. 6pm Ohio State beats Iowa by 18

18) Rhode Island (19-3) 486

What should happen:
URI Passes:
- #17 Oklahoma
- #15 Tennessee. The Vols were favored by 2 points @ Alabama and got a horrible loss by a whopping 28 points.
- #11 St Mary's. St Mary's was favored by 2 points but lost at home to Gonzaga by 13 points. Gonzaga live RPI was 44 and has now risen to 37. St Mary's RPI has dropped to 29 - way behind URI at 5
- #10 Kansas. Jayhawks were favored by 2 points @ Baylor and lost badly by 16 points. URI should edge out

Puts URI Ranked 14th with an outside chance of 13th if they bypass #17 Clemson who had an impressive win over Pitt but was idle this weekend
Even #12 could be a dream - IF Duke loses to Georgia Tech today then there is a chance Duke could fall from their #9 Spot with 2 losses this week

#19 West Virginia loss to Oklahoma State in Morgantown prevents any chance that WVU could leapfrog URI
#20 Michigan lost to Northwestern to not a threat to leapfrog URI
#21 UNC defeated #9 Duke this week and NC State Saturday on the road. Duke has lost 3 of last 4 including a horrible loss to St John's which takes some away from the UNC win following St John's. Possible they could leap ahead of URI but I don't think so - that would be a 4 place leap over a team who looked very impressive beating 2nd place A10 Davidson

I agree we’re moving up, but we’re not passing Kansas. Even with that loss they’re in the mix for a 1 seed, most likely a 2.

We should be 16, 15 at best.

I agree that we're likely not going to pass Kansas, but no way that they're in the mix for a 1 seed. They're having one of their worst seasons in a while - 6 losses and a few are bad. They'll be hovering in the 3-4 range

Dave Borges has URI 10th
1. Xavier: Maybe got a break on last-second foul call Saturday, but a road win at Creighton still nice.
2. Michigan State: Tom Izzo’s pressers reveal a man who’s rarely had to answer tough questions until now.
3. Villanova: Career-high 30 for Donte DeVincenzo in bounce-back win over Butler on Saturday.
4. Virginia: Cavs’ chance at No. 1 thwarted with home loss to Virginia Tech.
5. Cincinnati: Gary Clark, a problem, has to be Player of the Year in the American, right?
6. Texas Tech: Chris Beard is a strong candidate for national Coach of the Year ...
7. Ohio State: ... but we’ll go with Chris Holtmann, who’s worked a miracle in Columbus.
8. Purdue: Caleb Who?
9. Auburn: Very uncomfortable rewarding a Bruce Pearl-coached team too much.
10. Rhode Island: Not a top-four seed, despite 15 straight wins, deepest backcourt in the country?

Nice words from Rothstein on Cyril in article

— A word to the wise: monitor Cyril Langevine’s production for Rhode Island. The 6-8 sophomore was expected to be one of college basketball’s breakout players this season, but was slowed early due to an injury. Now healthy, Langevine has grabbed a combined 26 rebounds in his last two games and is averaging 13.0 points and 13.0 rebounds during that span.

Nevada stayed in the top 25 rankings even after a loss at home last week to UNLV. They in fact dropped just one spot from #23 to #24. If URI were to beat Richmond and then lose at St Bonaventure this week, there is a good chance Rhody would still remain in the top 25 rankings

The committee seems to be sympathetic to losses this season. Which gives Rhody a nice cushion IF they lose.

Hard to say for sure. They are overly sympathetic/biased in favor of cartel teams. I agree though I think our ranking is safe even with a loss.

A good chance?? I don't think there's any way that we drop out of the top 25 for losing to St. Bonaventure. You're talking about a drop of 9+ spots for a road loss to a top-50 RPI team that's still getting a few votes in the AP poll. I just don't see that happening. Our top 25 ranking is safe assuming we beat Richmond in the preceding game of course.

First, thanks for the replays!!

Next, why not? I for one think we are elite in our talent and poise thus far this season.

Three or four seasons ago I asked if DH was going to go with 5 guard lineups, goofing about it. I saw him then as a great program manager and thought his tactical abilities suspect. I was so wrong. We have the talent and the coaching, furthermore we have a coach that isn't treating us as weigh-station, that has proven time and time again he is as committed as he demands players be (for grammar police, sentence ended on preposition). Talent, coaching, poise, commitment (for grammar police, fragmented sentence). All six of our guards could start on any team in the league and arguably 4 of them could start for 90% of teams in the nation.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. We are as good as Purdoo and any other team out there! GO RHODY!!!

Ok, you got me there, but I hate Purdoo, they ref cheated us out of the 97 tourney I think it was, so I refuse to believe DH and crew couldn't figure out a way to mitigate the height disadvantage.

it would be an interesting clash...elite guards vs size. We did handle Creighton's "top 5 pick" 7 footer last year, but that was with Hass and KI.

AP votes as they are subjective definitely have a margin of error of several places, plus/minus. No issue with Kevin as he has never been more than a few spots behind "actual" Rhody placement.

Surprised UVA went to 1 didn't they lose ??

9 Consecutive Weeks now URI has moved up in the AP Rankings - ever since the Alabama Loss

Have moved from #45 to #16 or 29 Slots in 9 Weeks or a little over 3 Slots per Week - Weak A10 or not we continue rise every week

Rose 2 Slots this week but Big move in Vote Points from 486 to 666 or 180 Points just 17 points behind the #15 Team

Nice to see this week 15:
1 Vote for #8
1 Vote for #9
1 Vote for #10
3 Votes for #11
3 Votes for #12

Rose 5 Slots in USA Today Coaches Poll from #19 to #14

Reef that is very True. Rothstein was the only one voting for us in Weeks 6,7,8 and 9 out of 65 Voters. Now Rothstein ranks URI with 2 others at #11 but there are single voters for URI at #8, #9 and #10. So Rothstein is no longer the most optimistic.
