It's really not that strange -- KenPom has Oklahoma preseason #21. Sagarin has Oklahoma #28. BPI has them a little lower at #37.
It's just like when people thought he was crazy for being on the FSU bandwagon last season ... Didn't they finish with a 3 seed?

24. Rhode Island

The class of the Atlantic 10, coming off the program’s first NCAA tournament berth in 18 years, features one of the nation’s deepest backcourts, a skilled and versatile unit headed by last year’s leading scorer E.C. Matthews and fellow seniors Jared Terrell, Jarvis Garrett and Stanford Robinson. If sophomore Cyril Langevine and junior college transfer Ryan Preston from Brooklyn can help fill the void up front left by Hassan Martin and Kuran Iverson, the Rams will be Sweet 16 good.

And on the flip side of Seth Davis you have our own Kevin McNamara who declared that if Rhody was undefeated going into PC game we would get his vote. So all we would have to do is beat 4 NCAA teams out of our first 5 games and we would earn Kevie's vote. That is more extreme than putting us at 17. Reality is somewhere in the middle of that.

I think beating Seton Hall without EC and Langevine made the win less credible in the eyes of the AP voters. Based on their voting (SH 26, URI 37), the win was viewed more as a fluke instead of URI’s short handed team is better than Seton Hall. Maybe if we had beat them full strength, voters wouldve just accepted that URI is a better team and voted accordingly.

I disagree, since I think its worse if Seton Hall was in fact missing players and then we beat them, but they were at full strength.

I don't think that's true, you just have to remember how the polls work... Week 3, Seton Hall was ranked by all but 4 pollsters and had 32 pollsters who ranked them in their Top 20. In fact, they had 4 pollsters rank them in the Top 15. This week factoring a drop on some of those brackets, Seton Hall still has 4 pollsters who list them inside their Top 20. Doug Haller, for example, dropped Seton Hall from #11 last week to #19 this week. But for some, the drop was much smaller, and ultimately there were still 25 pollsters who listed Seton Hall in their Top 25 from last week. It's not as simple as one team beat the other...
