I agree ATP,
But there were those who said a month ago that we would not get ranked BECAUSE of the weak A10. The RPIs were too bad for the A10 teams and some even said our RPI would drop when we started the A10 Schedule. That has proven to not be the case. The graph clearly shows a continuous improvement in the rankings despite playing the weak A10 RPI teams. In addition our own RPI has continued to climb to a now current #6 in the Nation.
But to your point, a loss for a team like URI who is not playing a P5 Level Degree of Difficulty is devastating
Look no further than our loss AT Nevada we went from #27 to #41 - 14 slot drop
or the loss AT Alabama we went from #28 to #45 - 17 Slot Drop
Those are strong RPI Team on the road. So a loss this Friday to Davidson or next Tuesday to Richmond will most certainly knock us out of the Top 25 or at best on the very end.

You are right, a loss will knock us out of the Top 25 at this point, but the higher we go the less likely to knock us out

Similar holds true for St Mary's and Gonzaga

St Mary's is #11 with a 23-2 (12-0) record and Current RPI 24. Gonzaga is #12 with a 21-4 (11-1) record with Current RPI 46 - both in same Mid major conference
If and when either of these 2 Teams lose they will drop by more than an average P5 team would because of the weakness of their conference.

A10 is Ranked #10 in RPI Conference
WCC is Ranked #12 in RPI Conference

So St Mary's and Gonzaga are in a similar position as URI - they have to produce very good overall records to be ranked Top 25 - and need to continue to win a lot to stay there

Nevada is in the same boat

I mean it only takes like 5 minutes at most to check all the scores for top 25 teams and compare them.

Florida is the weirdest team ever by the way. They play at a final four level one game and early exit NIT team the next.

Bilas rankings http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket ... great-team

... Only interesting because he asks where the mid major powers are, then lists off teams wondering if they are but does not list URI. Then URI is ranked above Nevada and he mentions that Nevada is the second highest rated mid major behind St Marys. So does that mean he considers URI major? lol

Bilas is a 1%er of College Basketball. if the school doesn't play power 5 football, it barely deserves mention, a few of the blue blood big east schools excluded. Then he goes on his rants about protecting the players, which I would argue his 1% schools do worse then the smaller D1 programs who know their stars are going "professionals in something other than sports"

Some of the geniuses at ESPN include the Bigheaded East, Atlantic 10 and even the American-whatever-the-hell league the Storrs Leg-humpers play in as majors. As much as I love the Atlantic 10, in no way should be be included with the cartel.

This year the A-10 is mid major.
Historically it's sat in this grey area in between major and mid major.
We're like high mid major.
We haven't been included in mid major things many times in the past.

There is, high major, mid major and low major. Problem is no one uses high major and low major so it ends up being P5 + Big East or mid major.

AAC too, having former P5 teams. It’s so weird. Maybe there’s should be FCS and FBS classifications.

I wonder if DH only reviewed Nova in planning this year. Notre Dame has been playing similar with 1 big guy and tough the way URI has this year for a while.

I think DH and URI reach their potential WITH each other. Any steps back or movement will take away from how great they can be.

I also wonder how Cox and company are doing. Does Cox like it here? Would like to see an article on him. His journey and current day-to-day. Plus outlook.

I truly believe if DH bolts for a bigger payday (which I hope he does not) this will be Cox’s Team...in the same vein as Shaka Smart after Anthony Grant, and Will Wade. Cox behind DH is the reason we have the class we have coming in. He will be able to sustain. Not only a great recruiter, but clearly is DH’s braintrust behind the scene. Rest assured, our future is solid no matter what.

I agree with the sentiment but I am really sick of this notion that people bring up of Hurley not being able to recruit and it’s the assistants.

It was Bobby at first, then it was Preston, yada yada....it’s Dan, it has always been Dan.

Yeah, that’s why I said Cox “behind” DH. We all know Dan is the man. The assistants bring them to the table, Dan closes the hell out an offer if he is in love with a particular kid.

I am sure DH weighs heavily in the talent evaluation too. The assistants may bring a pool of kids but when they break them down by their in-house ratings it must be all Dan.

Last night's victory over Davidson ensures that Rhode Island will once again be ranked next week. May very likely even move up a bit from #18. This will mark the fourth straight week that URI was in the top 25 rankings. With a ranking in the teens, it is conceivable that Rhody could have a loss and still remain ranked.

If we beat Richmond but lose to St. Bonaventure, I think we will still be ranked.

However I don't think we will lose.

2 wins next week and we are league champs. Davidson will definitely lose at least another game.

For this coming Monday URI will likely set another record as the highest ever AP In-Season Ranking with the Current #18 being the best ever.
Every week since the last loss, 15 games ago, URI has steadily increased standing, averaging about 3 spots per week.
It gets tougher the higher we go since only 17 teams now in front.

Looks like we should move ahead of Oklahoma, ahead of Arizona and ahead of the loser of #12 Gonzaga - #11 St Mary's tonight to go to at least #15

We should really root for Alabama tonight against Tennessee!!! and root for Iowa against Ohio State!!! and root for Baylor to beat Kansas!!!

AP Top 25
RK TEAM RECORD PTS
10) Kansas (18-5) 1,015 - Beat TCU at home by 7 and were favored by 7. Play @ Baylor today favored by 2 points. 2pm.

11) Saint Mary's (23-2) 895 -Won @ Loyola Marymount by 21 were favored by 12.5. Play @ #12 Ranked Gonzaga Home tonight favored by 2 points. 10pm.

12) Gonzaga (21-4) 851 - Won @ Pacific by 10 were favored by 13. Play @ #11 Ranked St Mary's tonight underdogs by 2 points. 10pm.

13) Arizona (19-5) 816 - Lost to UCLA by 8 after being favored at home by 9.5. Play USC today at home favored by 5.5 points. 10:15pm

14) Ohio State (20-5) 747 - Big upset @ Purdue by 2 points being underdogs by 10. Play Iowa at home today favored by 13.3. 6pm

15) Tennessee (17-5) 739 - Beat Kentucky on the road by 2 being underdogs by 2. Play @ Alabama today Tennessee favored by 2 points. 6pm

16) Clemson (19-4) 720 - Crushed Pittsburgh 72-48 being favored by 18. Lost Donte Grantham for the season Jan. 20 with an ACL. No games this weekend

17) Oklahoma (16-6) 636 - Lost to WVU at home. Have lost ATS (Against the spread 7 of last 8 games) Play at Iowa State today favored by 5.5 points. 2pm

18) Rhode Island (19-3) 486

Every week since the last loss, 15 games ago, URI has steadily increased standing, averaging about 3 spots per week.
It gets tougher the higher we go since only 17 teams now in front.

Looks like we should move ahead of Oklahoma, ahead of Arizona and ahead of the loser of #12 Gonzaga - #11 St Mary's tonight to go to at least #15

We should really root for Alabama tonight against Tennessee!!! and root for Iowa against Ohio State!!! and root for Baylor to beat Kansas!!!

Really need to see Saturday and Sunday games first. #21 North Carolina beat #9 Duke this week. NC can leapfrog us with that kind of win, although they do face a tough NC State on the road tonight. And Az., at #13, might not tumble past us, despite losing to UCLA. We have an advantage being seen by the writers on National TV on a Friday night, when few other ranked teams are playing. Less excuse for a voting writer not to have watched last night's game. That helps...
