Maybe if we had beat them full strength, voters wouldve just accepted that URI is a better team and voted accordingly.
I don't think that's true, you just have to remember how the polls work... Week 3, Seton Hall was ranked by all but 4 pollsters and had 32 pollsters who ranked them in their Top 20. In fact, they had 4 pollsters rank them in the Top 15. This week factoring a drop on some of those brackets, Seton Hall still has 4 pollsters who list them inside their Top 20. Doug Haller, for example, dropped Seton Hall from #11 last week to #19 this week. But for some, the drop was much smaller, and ultimately there were still 25 pollsters who listed Seton Hall in their Top 25 from last week. It's not as simple as one team beat the other...
I agree with you that the proper way to analyze the polls is by individual voter.

Doug Haller, since you brought him up, is a perfect example of my point. He had URI ranked 25 to start the season, the next week he had them at 23. So he considered URI a top 25 team for the first 2 weeks of the season. Then, URI lost at Nevada and EC was announced out for 4-6 weeks. Understandably, Haller dropped URI out of the rankings. Then URI comes back and beats Haller’s #11 team in the country on a neutral floor. But yet, URI does not come back into Haller’s top 25.

So in some manner, Haller either disregarded his thinking in the first 2 polls and never really thought URI was a top 25 team, full strength or not, or he considered URI’s win over Seton Hall to be something of a fluke. Probably a combination of the two. Only Haller, in his infinite wisdom, can answer.

Do you think all these guys are spending more than 5 minutes looking at this stuff so early in the season? Maybe they do but I bet plenty of them just take a quick look

A 1 point head to head win on a neutral floor won’t automatically place Rhode Island over seton hall in the polls. Not all other factors between those teams are equal.

I agree but in this case it should.

To say Seton Hall’s overall body of work is clearly better than URI’s is a stretch. Given that the overall body of work of the 2 teams is similar and that the 2 teams were essentially viewed as even going into the season, the deciding factor should be their head to head game played on a neutral floor.

If URI had beaten Nevada and Vandy but lost to Seton Hall when Seton Hall was missing Delgado and URI was at full strength, do you think any voters would consider URI a better team than Seton Hall? No chance. So why is the opposite true?

That's a broken argument. Again, you have to remember how the polls work. If someone ranks someone #1 in their poll, an unranked team with a few good wins isn't going to hop their way past them because of "resume." Seton Hall was ranked in all but 4 polls last week, URI was ranked in just 1. Seton Hall saw a significant drop across the board, but only URI saw one additional poll addition. Is it simply possible that many of these other people had URI slotted 35+ and couldn't justify an inclusion into their poll despite a positive week?

Also, I think you have to factor in "research." It's too early to rely on RPI, I think many "experts" use KenPom to help justify things they are unsure about. Seton Hall ranks 24 in KenPom, URI ranks 51. I think that does factor in some in the early stages of the season.

Arizona state is 58 in the kenpom. Voters gave weight to ASU’s results over Xavier and most voters had ASU ahead of X and rightfully so until shown otherwise.

In this particular case, I think Arizona State's 6-0 record with a top 25 win has more to do with them being ranked than their KenPom ranking.

Should be interesting to see how true that is after this afternoons outcomes, big Seton Hall win, Alabama loss... I think a top 25 would be premature for us without a win over ‘Bama

Seton Hall just took down two ranked teams in Texas Texh and Louisville, they should be top 15 easily. Rhody I can see around 25.

Great to see Hall win at Louisville but not happy Bama losing at home as 11 point fav

I'm not saying I necessarily agree, but his reasoning is probably along the lines of our best win (Seton Hall neutral) is better than their best win (us at home). Our best win happened without two of our top players and their schedule so far isn't necessarily the strongest. Half of their games have been played against kenpom 200 or worse teams.

Espn has URI at #23. Our two loses of the year so far are #21 Nevada and #15 Virginia. Our best win, Seton Hall at #17. Thats what I call a great start. We may actually be ranked over Bama heading in to Wednesday after their loss to UCF. Turn of events for sure.

Seton Hall had a hell of a week. If someone wants to put them a spot or two ahead of URI I think that's mostly fine. But PC's best win as of right now is Belmont. Pretty sure both URI and Seton Hall can top that...

Usually I defend out of state writers who don't really get a chance to follow teams early in the season...but even just glancing at a scoreboard of those teams wouldn't have PC anywhere near the rankings.

I am not saying we should be ranked right now, I think 28 is accurate as we've pulled one upset but done exactly what the expectations were in every other game (losing as dogs to Nevada/UVA). I think one more win to put us in is completely fair.

However, this dude can go sit on a fence post. If you have an AP vote and at 3/4 of the way through the OOC you can't be bothered to do 15 minutes of research on the top 30 teams in the country before voting, you shouldn't be anywhere near a sports ballot.

In 120 minutes of action vs Creighton (NCAAs), Seton Hall and Providence we have been in the lead for approximately 100 minutes.
Or roughly 85% of the game time.

Basically, we own the Big East. :)

Bonnie’s Get 5 votes and Rhody 2 in the new AP poll. What gives?
