In fairness, we didn't lose to Nevada. There is no Nevada basketball program. We lost to NC State/So. Illinois/Purdue/Oregon St/Iowa St. That's not a basketball program. It's a parasite.

Nevada has now attempted 43 field goals and 41 free throws. Totally normal stuff.

That officiating crew should be reviewed. Nevada was only in the game because of free points and no calls on our end. Despicable.

I don't know if last years run lengthened my fuse but I feel like we just lost to a Top #25 team on the road. We played a garbage 1st half and they benefited from some ridiculous sequences, most notably the prayer off-balance 3 from 30 feet with the shot clock at 1 and a half dozen missed layups.

Basically, while Rhody still let a big game slip away, this doesn't have a Houston or Valpo feel. Well maybe a little Valpo with Caroline playing the role of Peters.

Now if we finish 24-9 on the wrong side of the bubble...then we can come back to this game thread and bemoan the missed opportunities.

Onto Holy Cross. The Seton Hall/other NIT/Bama sequence now becomes a must win 2 of 3.

40 plus free throws is rediculous - I don't usually like to blame the refs but they fucking sucked tonight,particularly in the first half and that was the difference.

On the plus side, we beat one likely NCAA Tournament team big at home and lost to another down to the wire on the road and I still don't think we've even played all that well yet. Plenty to work on and a long season still ahead.

We just lost to a potential sweet 16 opponent on their home floor in the second game of the year. Plus they get a 44-18 ft disparity, and we still almost pull it off. Great effort in the second half, this team will improve. Now let's just hope EC wrist is okay.

I hope we don't see sky is falling stuff. In my opinion that is probably the hardest game on our schedule, unless we get UVA in the Garden. I thought we came out flat in the first half and dug a huge hole, and given the circumstances there's nothing to be ashamed of here. Fingers crossed EC is OK, and the fact he came back in the game is a good sign. Honestly, if he doesn't play against Holy Cross I won't be mad.

Agree these refs were ridiculous but they were just a little better than us

Between the announcing and officiating, not sure which was worse.

The refs had some bad calls but Cyril and Berry were either fouling or giving up layups... Our lack of inside presence on D scares me. Akele was the only one I felt confident in

Let’s stop complaining about the officiating. College refs have always sucked. The problem is us. It wasn’t just this game. We also fouled UNC Asheville 31 times and allowed them to attempt 32 FT’s. It’s clearly a problem that Hurley needs to address.

The fact the game was that close down the streth wirh that free throw disparity gives me hope for the year tbh.

Also will Cyril foul out of every game this year? Hes got a shot to set some kind of record i think.

All our bigs are just too slow with their feet which led to a lot of reaching and therefore a lot of fouls. Akele is an easy blow by for anyone. I thought we would get a little more out of Langevine, but he looks a little lost defensively and has regressed back to having no touch on offense. Don't expect anything defensively from Berry. Last year we had two shot blockers (KI and Hass). It was hard to beat both of them, but this year is a different story. Hopefully Langevine progresses as the year goes on. Even our guards struggled. We have good sized guards, but theirs were bigger. Didn't seem to have the same intensity on defense as against UNCA, but I'm thinking defense always looks more aggressive when you see it in person as opposed to on tv.

Nice to see EC and Terrell have great 2nd halves. We need to see that more consistently for this team to have any chance. Last year they rarely had good games at the same time.

That prayer three Nevada hit with the shot clock running out was a back breaker.

You cannot watch that game and not blame the officiating. Nevada was bailed out numerous times with weak fouls that were not called the other way. I expect there to be a FT discrepancy and I am ok with that. It was not as bad in the 2nd half, the first half 18 to 4. Not surpring they went into the break with a 10 point lead.

That said, We need to find a way to win that game - tired of watching prayer 3s go in for the other side but that's basketball I guess. Put it behind us and move on I guess.

EC started to look like EC in the second half. So that's good. Fatts looks like he can contribute this year, so that's good. Terrell is still the best player on the team and the guy I want with the ball at the end of a game, had a decent look on that last drive that rimmed out.

spot on, once that kid hit the end of shot clock prayer/dagger i knew it wasn't happening.

I will also note our poor FT shooting once again came back to big us. A couple missed front ends, 56% for the game, not good enough. Maybe we still lose, but FTs could have made it a closer game.

I’m very much looking forward to almost a week of people working this into a “we suck fire the coach the season is over” thread.

Flew 3000 miles for a late ass game against an equal opponent, had possibly the worst free throw discrepancy I’ve ever seen, lost by 7.

We will get better, we know this group can close out games, we know the staff can coach, we will be fine.

Was fading in and out of consciousness in the 2nd half, but that shot clock beating 3 heave was a killer.
Looked like Rhody had a tough time getting shots off against a taller team - that seemed like a bit of a problem.

Get used to (if haven't already) tons of fouls. Comes with the "tenacious D" and not going away any time soon, part of the deal.
They hassle the sh1t out of everyone on D and it looks like it would suck to have to play against that. Seems that's where depth will help because everyone on the team pretty much plays like that.

Thought Langevine's touch had improved at the end of last year, but didn't really see it this morning.
He shouldn't be putting the ball on the floor, ever. Should just pass or shoot immediately.

Will be interesting to see how they fortify the interior D.

But it's almost like our reputation precedes us when it come to the refs out west....we get called for everything, they hardly get called for anything.

As long as EC is okay, time to move on.

......You loose two frontcourt players like Hass and KI, and it will take a while to fill the gap.

We aren't as strong up front as we were last year....that doesn't help.

Preston will take time to get better, he will help more.....

But the foul situation has to be addressed. Though part of it is that the refs out west aren't used to the overly physical style that a lot of east coast teams play...we get called for way more fouls every time we play out there.
