WPRI-Ty Boswell arrested-Player also involved

WPRI reported tonight that URI Assistant Coach Ty Boswell was arrested last week in an incident that also involved a URI Men's basketball player. There was a disturbance in the Men's Room at the Ryan Center during the MIGOS concert last week. A URI player was punching the wall. Police investigated and Boswell interjected himself into the incident coming to the defense of the player. He was aggressive with the police and later charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. More charges could follow.

URI has placed Boswell on administrative leave pending further investigation.

I am just going to put out there that no one start wild theories about anything until they know the whole story.

Don't post rumors because I'm sure a lot of eyeballs will come to a place like this to get info.

IF, I repeat, IF, said player did hit a cop, he is as good as gone.

Depends on all the circumstances. Dawan Robinson was arrested for resisting an arrest over ten years ago (2005) at a Narragansett bar. Was suspended a few games.

Spot on, Coach Boswell has been a gracious person any time I've come in contact with him. I think it's best if everyone just lets info develop. Hopefully this is just something blown out of proportion and can be handled like so.

This seems a bit out of proportion, just saying. Arrests happen when cops overreact and when it's needed. No one on this board truly knows what happened Thursday unless you were in that men's room...

I hope this is resolved and that's it. We don't need any problems right now.....seems like a very minor incident.

Spot on, without knowing the story let's let the developements drive perception and not rumors. Keep in mind also that these are 18-22 year old kids, we all learned from mistakes at that age.

I saw a tweet a few days ago that JT was there and somehow prevented a player from getting into worse trouble. I looked for it tonight, but couldn't find it.

I knew about this but waited until URI released its statement. I know more than what's being reported but don't sense there's an appetite for that info.

I believe that the WPRI video report made mention of this. The linked article however did not.

TV has chosen not to name the player even though he is named in the police report. I'm guessing newspapers will use it.

So who is he? It's public knowledge if it's in the police report.

My guess is, Dan will address this situation and be done with it, and he'll lay down the law going forward.

What's the point of withholding this info if it's going to come out anyway?

Of course people on this board want to know.

I think Iggy is saying based on all the post on this thread
Above, posters would attack any poster of the news on Ty and the player if it isn't favorable.

One player. Ty and player had multiple chances to walk away and they didn't. Eric helped minimize the situation.

That's too bad, as a coach you have to be looking at for the kids first and foremost, sounds like if this is true he didn't 100% do that.

Trying not to be selfish, but wondering how this might affect the crucial recruiting period we're in right now. We sure don't need the negative publicity with our top target scheduled to be here this week. Also wonder how it might affect the recruit that Ty got to verbal.

I thought the same exact thing.

Schools with use anything to talk down about another program, this will be on the top of their lists.

Yawn.

Kid gets drunk at a concert and does stupid act. Nothing against another person, this is simply a disorderly conduct ticket. Pay the fine and move on.

Coach picks up an interfering with police ticket and pays his fine too.

Literally something that happens 20+ times at any concert (drunk in public, disorderly conduct tickets).

Step back from the ledge chicken littles

If a player struck a cop, that's a serious, serious issue.

Article has been updated with a video report. Video report alleges that a player struck an officer in the face and that more charges are forthcoming. This is not just going to die on the vine unfortunately.

If a player struck an officer he would have been arrested. Didn't hear that a player was arrested.

Because silliness (i.e., making sure to tell everyone that you know something they all want to know, but you aren't telling) is a staple....much more acceptable than just saying...um...nothing...? What was the point of that?

Count me for yawn.

I want them to all be ok. Doesn't sound like anything right now. Penance and all that. Then work them back into the fold.

Getting hit by an officer's club counts for assault on a LEO.

Edit: Channel 12 video from their newscast mentions an unnamed player striking a cop. Article doesn't state this.

This is the second time you've brought up a player hitting a cop and it has not been brought up by anyone else in any other reporting. Do you know more than is being reported or are you repeating something you've put in your head as a possibility?

Channel 12 showed pieces of the police report and said in the video that a police officer is alleging he was struck in the face by the player in question.

Yup. He will have punishment from student affairs and Dan's punishment with respect to bball.

Pay the dues and come back. Nothing serious here or else it would've been a story last week when it happened.

He would've been arrested on the spot for that. Striking a cop isn't a "needs investigation" offense.
