Davison in the 30s after losing Gibbs. Very surprised with that.

If I were ESPN and I ran my BPI calc and it came back with Wichita State #1 and URI #42, I would ditch the formula and start over. Embarrassing for them.

Davidson ahead of us is a joke.
Check our 3-0 record against them.
More specifically the asswhooping we gave them in Pittsburgh.

And Jack Gibbs graduated. They are likely middle of the pack A10 at best. Clearly the BPI is not accurate at this point!

Sure doesn't look accurate.
They have everyone else back, but whenever Jack came off the court they were awful.
I'm sure they'll be decent. Not better than us though :D

This rating system makes no sense.

jerry palm of cbs has uri as a # 8 seed in his preseason bracketology; we would be matched against missori--if we won it would be #1 Michigan state
providence was listed as a # 9 seed

I took this as their starting point or initial condition for next season...every team has to have a starting value that will then evolve as data is added. Though I don't know what they used to arrive at these numbers. You know what they say...there are lies, damned lies and statistics.

Why? I get that our rank is probably a little on the low side but Wichita state pretty much returns all their talent from last year when they were ranked 8th overall by kenpom.

If Wichita State finishes #1 in kenpom or any other reliable metric this year, and if URI finishes 42 or worse, I will eat my computer. And I could run down the whole rankings and pick apart a decent amount of it - far too much for this thing to have ever seen the light of day.

This reminds me ESPN's failed QBR metric for football. The rankings using QBR turn out laughable on too many occasions. Maybe ESPN should confront the fact that it's not good at metrics. Part of the value of these kinds of metrics is to help you catch the occasional team that is over- or under-valued. But it needs to pass a sanity check at first blush; if WAR consistently ranked Emilio Benefacio as the best player in baseball, it never would have caught on as a reliable metric.

I think we need to start playing the games before worrying about this stuff.
