Re: One and not done
Calipari is a good bench coach and obviously can recruit, but he doesn't give 2 shits about academics and his players' welfare off the court......no matter what he might say about it.

Re: One and not done
Yeah was another good 30 for 30.
You either respect him or not.
I like him.
He comes off a sleazy, but he makes genuine connections with his players.
That was evident in the documentary.
So I respect him for that.

Calipari is cut from the same cloth as Pitino. They may win a lot of games on the court but they are both sleazy. The best analogy for them is a high grossing used car salesman.

I wouldn't say that. Kentucky and Louisville are certainly not comparable to used cars. Cal is a serial cheater, and Pitino is to a lesser extent, but it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to sell Kentucky and Louisville.RF1 wrote:Calipari is cut from the same cloth as Pitino. Re: One and not done
Nobody has ever pinned anything on Calipari.
He's not like some coaches who got caught and were
sanctioned by the NCAA.
He's a great coach and great recruiter.
He makes no bones about using the NBA's one and done
rule, to his advantage.
He took UMass to a Final Four and Memphis to a final game.
Not exactly world beater programs.
To retool an entire team every year, and still get people to buy
into sharing the load, is amazing.
All those players who showed up on stage at the
Hall of Fame ceremony, are a testament to how
they feel about him, as a coach and as a person.

I used to hate Calipari, but lately have changed my tune on him. Like Rod said, he just uses the system to his advantage. I also love how vocal he has been against the NCAA at times recently.

Re: One and not done
Totally agree with Rod. I live in WMass. Cal had nothing to do with Camby taking money his last year from a guy in Hartford that wanted to be his agent. He took over when UMass had zero D1 wins the year before. He turned it around quickly even with some of the inherited players contributing.rodfromcranston wrote:Nobody has ever pinned anything on Calipari.

Ask Thorr about Cal. He was at UMass then. Thorr is a big supporter of Cal.
One and done was caused by the NBA changing its rule. The NBA changed the rule because they were concerned more players woukd start entering the NBA directly from high school/prep school.
The reason Cal has more one and dones is because he gets more of the top players and more of the players who want to go pro asap. They have seen the success Kentucky players have had being selected in the first round and that attracts them to Kentucky. No one should be prevented from going pro - it is their livelihood. No one criticizes Coach K for Duke's one and done. The NBA teams are to blame for the increase in early college exits. Look at the first round of the draftvevery year and compare the number of underclassmen to seniors. In 2016's first round - 5 Seniors and 17 underclassmen (10 Fr). Two Fr from Kentucky.

Love Calipari.
Almost every great coach @ Rhody had off court controversy around them at some point-Kraft,Penders,Skinner and Harrick?
Did they not?

Re: One and not done
I used to dislike Cal...but in the last couple years, he seems to just be enjoying the ride, calling it what it is and I actually like him for that. Thinking there are not many that wouldn't want their kid to play for him. Thought the 30 for 30 was very well done...and all those players that showed up for his HOF induction...I think that really says a lot. Does that mean I want UK to win? No, hardly ever, but nothing against Coach Cal....

Yes that was very telling that all the players showed up at HOF for him
Great footage also of a young Cal coaching at the Howie Garfinlle 5 star camp and his rise at UMass along with the feud with Cheney
