Hassan Martin - A True Rhody LEGEND

Unread post by Da_Process_Survivor »

Want to make a thread to praise and honor Hassan.

He is the exact type of kid we love here. Undersized, undervalued, tough as nails, non stop effort, self made.

I haven't seen a player come through in the last 20 years that has meant as much to a team as he does. For 4 years he has been the heart and soul of this team. He was an incredible player and an even more incredible leader. Few players played with the toughness, heart, and joy for the game here as he did. His attitude was infectious.

The numbers and accolades speak for themselves:

1,300 points
784 rebounds
317 blocks...led the A10 in blocks per game all 4 seasons
2x A10 DPOY

If we actually honored former greats here, he would be a no doubt addition to the ring of honor.

Gonna be weird next year not seeing him flat out erasing shots and leading the team

Totally agree. I hope they get a big crowd at their awards night. I also hope Hass and KI can make it back to raise the banners at the first game next year.

Thank you Hassan for four great years. Was very happy to see you go out as A-10 Champion and NCAA participant. You deserved it.

Can't believe his college days are up... time flies.

Would've had even greater numbers and he not gotten so injured.

He embodies what you want out of a student athlete and from what I could gather from when he spoke, he embodies what makes a good person.
He has tons of heart.
He's going places.

As I've said before, "warrior" is an overused term
in sports.
However, if anyone fits that moniker, it's
Hassan Martin.
No drama, no mugging for the camera, no
idiotic biceps flexing after a basket.
Just the player and the greatness he brought
to the game.
He will be spoken about for years to come.
Hassan Martin will be missed.

Hass has been getting tons of love on Twitter @HasstheGreat.

He replied earlier today with this simple message:

He was unbelievably dominant at times. Recently and in the past with I think he had 10+ blocks against the Lasalle front court. He had many of those performances.

Sad to see him go. Happy to have watched his career.

Was the leader of the 2017 A10 champion Rams. An achievement that will last a lifetime.

I hope Hass can get his injury issues settled. He could have himself a nice career in basketball somewhere.

I can think of a handful of Rams in the past 15 seasons that deserve much praise, but none were WINNERS like Hass!

Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. It's an exposure event for guys to explore professional playing opportunities and would be great for Hassan. There's a bunch of NBA people and other scouts there to watch. The level of players is usually around the D League/international level but the occasional NBA guy ends up there. It's also the setting of one of my favorite Dan stories. He was invited as a senior, was all set to go, and then just decided, nah, I'm done being a basketball player, and the rest is history.

Well, Pittsburgh was recently pretty great, so that's understandable.

THANK YOU HASSAN! LOVED WATCHING HIM PLAY!
I wish him a ton of success in his future endeavors! He's a hard working man.
A word of advice though...with the way things are right now, don't play overseas or you're likely to get stopped by customs on your way back in to the U.S. with name like Hassan. :-P

The backbone of the team and the heart and soul of the program. As petty as it might appear to some, he deserved to be announced last during the introductions. He earned that honor.

He may be the toughest player ever to put on a URI uniform. Basically playing on a broken leg his JR year. He was a beast.

Hard to even comprehend that we basically should have beaten Oregon a final 4 team with Hass giving us nothing in 14 minutes bodes very well for next season
