Too bad Philmon isn't here yet. When asked in an interview if he could go anywhere in the world, where would he go, his answer was the Bahamas.

Don't blame them on the over season trip. Too unpredictable over there these days. Bahamas are definitely not a bad Plan b. Great to see them back on the Rhody hardwood. Any open practices yet?

I thought it was interesting that Dan referred to front court depth, mentioning Berry, Akele and Layssard ....but not Tertsea.

I also was surprised Tertsea wasn't mentioned. Tertsea looks like a million bucks. What gives.

Although I consider myself firmly in the Berry camp. I felt like he took a step back last year for some reason. I had to back off of beating the Berry drum. Like his first year he literally was a main piece in winning games.

I would like to see Berry return to his unstoppable paint scoring self. Then I could apply some Keaney Blue Heat to put Berry in the game.

I would guess it may possibly concern his Dad. Could it be related to ESPN E:60 documentary on Bob Sr?

Very well could be that, or as something to do with promoting the Preseason NIT which is an ESPN run event. Last year the ESPY's were held on July 13th and the Barclays Center games were announced the next day. Could be a massive coincidence or it could mean something. We'll know by the end of tomorrow which it is I suppose.

Maybe he will be involved in the program in some way. On the other hand, someone has to fill those seats. Whatever the reason, it isn't a bad thing for the university or the program if he's there - and if he gets any facetime, even better.

But c'mon...Danny can't coach offense. He hates big men. He needs a mentor on the bench to teach him the X's and O's. He can't recruit without Preston. He only got the job because of his famous last name. Ahh where is our old expert GBG, oddly he disappeared as soon as we went on a run. What a great fan, we need more of those. And some of you people actually engaged in his trollish BS. Another one of his gems was that Xavier Munford was a gunner who was allowed to do what he wanted on an awful team and never would sniff an NBA court.

So what?
I liked Xavier Munford and did challenge
GBG on his assertions about X.
I make no apologies.
I also recall YOU had several exchanges with him at that time.
Yes, Preston was important in recruiting EC,Terrell and Jarvis.
He was also key in recruiting that big man who many on this board
were in love with, Jordan Hare.
Yes, I know,"The head coach was the closer, blah, blah, blah".
It's the assistants who do the ground work, sometimes for years on a player.
Nobody has been recruited by anyone since, who measures up to
those players. I'm talking about 4 year players.
Everyone enjoyed the last month of the season.
It was a long time coming.
The 2018 recruiting cycle is vital towards continuing success.

Not everyone enjoyed it apparently, since that huge fan of ours hasn't shown himself since. That was the point. That person was not a fan he was a troll. Others jumped on his assertions and supported some of them, all of which like his opinion on X were proven to be wrong.

Ya don't say? I thought that Iverson and Robinson guy were two pretty good pick ups too. We don't do what we did last year without both of them. I seem to recall a bunch of people wondering why we signed Robinson when we had a lot of guards. Count me in the camp that is dam glad we did. Excited to see what he brings in his senior season.

I wasn't addressing you, just the overall notion that DH hasn't brought in the same level of talent since PM and Bobby left which was another GBG classic. Regardless of how you classify them, 4-years, JCs, Transfers. Goes without saying in the modern college basketball world programs like ours will always be reliant on those latter two groups to compete year in and year out, and as the CEO of the program the talent level DH has brought in has to be judged holistically. IMO there has been zero slip up.

Too early to tell on Dowtin and Langevine, their high school rankings could matter little compared to the talent and level they play to as upperclassmen. Both have already shown to have high level A10 potential.

I don't understand why it matters what they were ranked. Langevine and Dowtin can clearly play, and things are set up to give them the opportunity to possibly be all-time great players for this program in terms of individual and team achievements. So I don't care if they were one-star recruits.

Here is a fun brain exercise: if somehow the entire class of 2016 were free agents again this summer after their freshmen year, where do you think our two guys would be ranked? I'd say well inside the top-100.

They recruited on playing time at the start and had to win last year to make the shift legitimate. Now, they're a solid program and can recruit on that. Everyone's in agreement that the '18 class is important. These artificial dividing lines are weird, but if we're doing them, Terrell committed to Rhode Island and Hurley. Yes, the whole staff works together and all that, and JT visited BC as a nod to Murphy, but the situation is what it is. Just ask Jared. If Terrell never decommits from OK State, that's a bad miss given the time put into him, but it ended up working out. No one recruits in isolation. Murphy wouldn't have had the recruits he did without Hurley (or another equally legitimate coach), and head coaches rely on assistants. I think we're also in agreement that the '15 class is comparatively the weakest, probably due to several factors- staff turnover, miscalculations in targets, ever present head coach rumors, grey area between should be a good program but wasn't yet, fairly stable but young roster. As for Dowtin, bringing a guy of his talent into a guard-heavy team was a significant win, regardless of ranking. Getting the highly ranked guys feels good and often works out, but for national relevance, an A10 team has to also find and develop players who may be somewhat overlooked. I hope Fatts is another one.

Good interview with Hurley in today's Narragansett Times:
* They're limiting EC in practice just to be cautious. His knee is good. He will play very little or not at all in the Bahamas.
* Berry and Layssard are in better shape than this time last year. Hurley expects Berry to get a lot of minutes off the bench.
* Thompson has not been practicing (and now we know why).
* Fatts looks real good (although the story says he's shorter than Jarvis) and Hurley says it will be hard to keep him off the floor.
* They've been watching film of Villanova to install a four-guard lineup. Hurley is confident this will work because they have big guards.

It could also be said that without Preston being in on EC,
long before he ever heard of Dan Hurley,
Hurley never would have had a shot at a Michigan kid.
Same with Hare. TJ was also a Preston recruit.
I know the Hurley apple polishers love to
diminish Preston.
Sorry, his body of work here and at Creighton
will speak for itself.

Also, more bullshit looking to justify a four guard
set.
Villanova had huge "guards", who were as big as some forwards.
Don't bother looking at the Final Four, though.

Rod I'm not understanding why you insist on pitting Hurley against Preston. You indicate that you think others are doing that by diminishing Preston, but honestly I think you are either imagining that or taking something that somebody said in the wrong way. Preston is universally adored and respected by URI fans for his efforts as both a player and a coach.

It's probably fair to say that Preston and Hurley recruited successfully as a team, and that both Hurley and Preston (and Bobby for those that frequently mention him as well) have continued to have success after their partnership ended. As a believer in Hurley and what he is trying to do (and is doing) at my alma mater and as someone who had a relationship with Preston that goes back 20 years, I'm disappointed by this false dichotomy where if you appreciate Hurley you're somehow being disrespectful to Preston or vice versa.

Wasn't Hare a Baron recruit?

EC isn't here without PM and DH. Together, as a team. As most staffs work. PM fostered the relationship, DH closed it. ECs earliest quotes were how he wanted to be an NBA guard and Dan and Bobby's pedigree at that position played into his decision.

Fwiw V'nova has been playing 4 guard teams for a decade -- Kris Jenkins is the only one they have had that would qualify as huge. Archie, Randy Foye, Allen Ray, Brunson, Jason Hart, so on and so on.

Hare was a Michigan kid who was on the fence
