Ramster, better check 1987-88.
EIGHT road wins in the A-10, 9 if you count
beating West Virginia at MSG.

Nice win though some ragged play is concerning. Since his great game at Davidson, Dowtin has been like a deer in a headlight - bad shooting FG, 3-pointers and FT's. BTW, Dowtin has averaged over 30 minutes per game since Fordham.

This was the Rams fourth straight win, if we can make it a seven game win streak we get an at-large. If we make it eight straight, we get the automatic.

This caused me a bit of panic after filing my game story -- I did this research on the train down. Thankfully it was correct.

URI on the A10 road in 1987-88 (regular season)
at Temple 75-66 L
at St. Joe's 99-80 W
at Rutgers 84-71 W
at GW 92-61 W
at UMass 101-78 W
at West Virginia 74-71 W
at Duquesne 98-93 L
at Penn State 77-69 (OT) W
at St. Bonaventure 93-79 W

That comes out to 7-2. West Virginia hosted the A10 Tournament that year -- URI beat Rutgers and West Virginia and lost to Temple, but all three technically are neutral court games.

I think you have to count the tournament win against West Virginia since it was @WVU.
Buuut we at least tied that record, as far as the regular season goes.

I vividly remember that shocking Duquesne loss. Thought that was gonna be a dagger at the time.

Team responded well down the stretch and then the two magical NCAA wins.

Penders was a rock star and Tommy Garrick was on the cover.....

Man that sure was something!!!

If you play a team on their home court,
it's a road game, regardless of when it was played.
So, the NIT game a couple of years ago vs. Iona wasn't a home game,
because we hosted it in a tournament?
That 1987-88 team was 28-7. They beat Virginia at Virginia.
Beat PC,Brigham Young, San Diego State, in OOC.
Beat West Virginia three times.
Yet, two out of their A-10 losses were to a
middle of the road Duquesne team.
Both losses were within 9 days of each other.
They had a big Euro, who dropped 3's on them
all night at Keaney.
That game had everyone wondering what
was going on.
One hell of a season, though.

Jarvis is so dominant in the second wave. Then You play him all game as needed.

I'm also a CT guy. Really like him to get into form. I like all of our players really.

Which leads me to Akele, such an X factor considering he shoots the 3. He always gets lost by the other big for wide open 3 balls. He hits both those at Valpo and that game is different.

These guys have to continue getting better over the next 2 weeks.

Yes It is now Davidson they have to beat and that is all. No looking ahead anymore. as I have been
saying, beat the team you are playing before any thought goes into any other game. Now there is
only one game and it is at home on Saturday. Forget about the A10 tournament for now. We
should enjoy tonight's win in which the team did what it needed to do and buried ST. Joes, and
savor it until Saturday.

I say keep Jarvis off the bench and increase his minutes. Hopefully JD can start hitting shots

I also like CT there is just a log jam of players so it's tough for him to get minutes

Now that I've decided it's okay to route for PC, I need to direct all of that unfettered hatred towards another team, I choose the St. Blows Dawks. They're so bad this year, refs can't even steal games for them.

Of course it counts. That said, the record being discussed is URI road conference wins, and A10 tournament games have never counted toward that record because they're considered postseason games.

That was my freshman year and got me hooked on URI basketball for life. What a fun season. We went 0-4 against Temple and Duquesne (how did we lose to them twice?) and 14-0 against the rest of the league. Counting the A10 tourney we were 16-0 vs everyone but Temple. Is Garrick's 50 against Rutgers still a tourney record?

Dowtin seems to be shooting long on every shot. Probably a lack of follow through.

This team collectively has the worse looking jump shots you'll ever see. Very few have good rotation on the ball, which why a lot of their shots spin out. JG might have the best shooting technique out of everyone.

That was my freshmen year too, but in high school. That team was awesome to watch. I remember watching the Temple game on UHF either 25, 38 or 56. Fox 64 didn't even exist yet.

Selection Sunday was during my confirmation retreat, but they rolled out a TV for us watch it. We got slated against the original 50 cent, Derrick Chievous. Who wears a band-aid for no reason, honestly?

Yes,

the 7-2 is for Conference Only. I wouldn't be talking about Tournament games yet since we have not played them.

Not really a physical thing I guess, but a combination of factors?

Of course most of our guys have had stretches of good play followed by bad, and visa versa.....

ramster, wish we could have Dayton and Fordham back.....we would most likely be in with those 2 as wins.....I know if if if......
And LaSalle and PC...

JD had one sick no-look pass in the first half...

So I'm less of a Rhody fan and don't deserve to attend games because I admit I enjoy watching Ed Cooley's Friars? You guys are too funny. So I guess I was less of a Celts fan because I enjoyed watching Worthy and Magic play, or less of a Jim Rice fan because I enjoyed watching Reggie Jackson...I've been around the URI v PC rivalry world for a while and have lots of emotions about the history of the programs, I'm talking about what the teams are presently. Ed Cooley is one heck of a coach and his team plays in my backyard, why deny myself the pleasure of a local team's success based on my disdain for dead dave? I mean its not like we folded our program up when the Big Beast came into existence, we could have been pro-active and helped create a league that could rival it, instead we all just moan and bitch about the screw job we got and we're required to hate PC now because of it. I dislike the fact that Frank Keaney isn't remembered or revered in the bball world as he should be, and VERY much dislike the fact that our program hasn't honored him by maintaining excellence over the years!

I have consistently said I wanted PC to be good as well. I root for PC whenever they don't play URI. It's good for the state and for both programs if we're both good.

The dream would be that PC and URI were both perennial top 50/top 75 teams. Always in the mix. The absolute dream would be for a Rhody/PC sweet 16 with a Rhody victory. That's the best goal ever.

I've said multiple times I hate UMass far more than I hate PC, and I wasn't alive for the Dave Gavitt era, but I wish we had a Dave Gavitt-type person here to accurately predict and shape the college basketball landscape, rather than just simply hating them because of it.

It just smacks of little brother syndrome.
