Clemson - URI Would make a great home - home series

Excellent, excellent move by Brownell. He is in probably the hottest Coaching Seat in the ACC right now. Has to produce. Lost his star player in Jaron Blossomgame who will go in the NBA Draft. He suffered a severe leg injury coming after his Senior of HS and missed his first season at Clemson.

Will be only a 2 hour drive from home. He will be very effective recruiting there. Gets to the best Basketball Conference in the Country. Win-Win for School and Coach.

Butler is expected to hire Milwaukee's LaVall Jordan as its next head basketball coach, per source. Details of contract being worked out.

Brownell is on thin ice at Clemson. This could be somewhat of a risky move as Brownell could be gone after next season and as we know most new head coaches tend to take their assistants with them.

That is true, but according to Koch ARD will be getting about a 40% raise. Hard to pass that up.

Sorry to see ARD leave.
You could see the results of his working with the bigs,
as well as his Southern recruiting ties.
First Bobby, then Preston, followed by Murray, and
now, ARD.

No doubt a great move by ARD. 2 hours from home. Was an Assistant in South Carolina already. Gets his foot in the ACC door, great for his resume, gets to coach in the big, big time.joins a program looking to rise. Arena was completely redone last year. On campus arena. National champions in football. Nice pay raise. Expands his coaching network. Even if Brownell leaves it's not an issue for ARD landing another position. Peach Jam close by in North Augusta South Carolina - he has to be thrilled and good for him. One of our all time great players and alumni!!!!

The number 2 player for 2018 behind Marvin Bagley is 6'7" Zion Williamson from nearby Spartanburg South Carolina. Similar size to ARD. Being heavily recruited by all the big boys Duke, Kentucky, etc. What a coup that would be for ARD to land Williamson at Clemson. Clemson is involved with many 5 star big men including Bagley. ARD cashing in on his region familiarity, experience coaching big men, experience playing as a big man, helping to develop Martin and Iverson and helping take URI to the Round of 32. Stuff like that goes not get lost on head coaches and ADs and College Presidents. Hate to lose him but thrilled and proud for a great player, coach and person.

Very true.
It's a combination of treating recruiting like a
Navy Seal black ops mission, and people leaving the program,
who used to be fan friendly.
During the Harrick years, there were times when
Jerry Duh would be on a radio show taking questions on
recruiting. He wouldn't name names, but you could get
him to talk around who they were going after.

Interesting last five hires for the Big East, starting in 2014: Wojo (long-time assistant, no hc experience); Leitao (coaching retread); Mullin (legend, no hc experience); Ewing (legend, no hc experience); Jordan (long-time assistant, 1 year hc experience)

I'm not discounting Mullin and Ewing's other experiences in basketball, but they're the two I'm most interested in seeing how they fare.

The Mullin and Ewing hires were high risk with no college coaching experience but could ultimately yield a high reward if all went right. Only time will tell.

Did anyone see that a very young assistant with no head coaching
experience, took over one of college football's legendary programs?
Oklahoma has the second best winning percentage since
1999 in college ball.
Lincoln Riley is 33 years old with 10 years as an assistant
at three schools.

Rothstein gets some heat for being a prolific compiler of tweets, but this is a nice write-up on now regular opponent Tim Cluess, with a few references to Hurley, as his name apparently must be mentioned in conjunction with all available jobs in the northeast-

Cluess not getting looks from the big programs is no surprise.

He runs a 1 trick pony gimmick scheme that is only good for overwhelming the less talented teams in his conference and routinely is neutralized and easily beaten by any team with talent close to Iona's.

Its like the Wildcat, yeah he caught some teams by surprise but the book is out now. They dont play a lick of defense and the offense is neutralized when you make them play half court

This. Totally, completely, precisely this.

I was never a Cluess guy, but some of the things he said in this article are a complete joke. I would give up my tickets if we ever hired this guy.

I love to see Iona on the schedule.
It means high scoring basketball, and a win.
Cluess never stresses defense at all.
Iona beats up on the Canisius's and St. Peter's in the MAAC,
and gets to the NCAAs many times, and get killed by
teams who can play both ends of the floor.

Avery Johnson signs 2-year extension with Alabama
The Associated PressAug 4 2017, 9:53 AM

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) Alabama basketball coach Avery Johnson has received a two-year contract extension through 2023.

The board of trustees' compensation committee approved the extension Friday. Johnson will receive $2.9 million annually under the six-year deal, up from about $2.8 million.

The former NBA player and head coach will also get $150,000 for each completed contract year.

The Tide hasn't made the NCAA Tournament in either of Johnson's first two seasons, but the future seems bright.

Johnson brought in the nation's No. 6 signing class, touted as the program's best ever. The group is led by five-star point guard Collin Sexton and four-star shooting guard John Petty.

The trustees also approved a $75,000 raise to basketball assistant John Pelphrey to $425,000. New baseball coach Brad Bohannon received a five-year deal worth $425,000 annually.
