No need to dissect this game. All of it sucked. This team sank to a new low tonight and showed their true colors. Soft and weak mentally, with a coach who yet again did not get his team ready to play a perennial conference doormat.

I've been on the "we just don't look like a tournament team" train. Glad to see my eyes don't deceive me quite yet.

Well, THAT was probably the most flaccid offensive
shit show I've ever seen from a URI team.
3 points in the last FIVE MINUTES!
30% shooting, 10% from 3, 46% from the line.
Plus they let a smaller Fordham team outrebound them.
Just pathetic.
Can we now end the nonsense about brackets and running the table?
Lasalle and Fordham lost at home.
EC Matthews, 1-7, missed a 1 and 1, and got beat by
his man, all night.
Someone was crying on the Dan Hurley Show thread about him
leaving for a payday somewhere.
Really?
Only Hassan played close to his normal game.
I was happy to see Jarvis Garrett return and play
better than I'd have expected. He made a couple of nice
passes that weren't converted.
So, CFL 2.0? Yeah, maybe?
A pretty disappointing season, so far.
Oh, and PC beat Xavier.
Ugh!

Both the players and coach are to blame. I dont blame the coach for the poor shooting from a team that has five starters who have started for three years. These players can't deliver. Year over.

So many times we have bemoaned this coach and program's inability to get a bucket when they needed to at the end of a game, half, or in bounds play.

Dan couldn't get a bucket in the last 7:38 of this game.

I wish I could say I'm totally shocked by what happened tonight, but sadly I'm not. The Dayton loss on Friday was the nail in the coffin in my eyes. It was so deflating, and Dan's comments after the game echoed that. When he stated how emotional the locker room was after the game, and how difficult it was going to be get the team to move past it and focus on the remaining games, that was all I needed to hear. The coaches and team knew how slim our margin for error was heading into that game, and when we lost it (and the manner in which we lost it), I just think it was so demoralizing that they couldn't mentally bounce back from it. I'm sure Dan tried his best, but he probably couldn't fully cover up how much it had impacted him as well. All of the missed opportunities in our close losses this year , the ongoing FT issues, the bone headed play at both ends of the floor at the end of close games, poor play calls by the coach when it mattered most, EC not bouncing back like most had expected he would, Hass with yet another injury that cost him time and has him at less than 100%, JG with whatever his issue was this year, on and on. It all came to a head tonight as we saw. The coach and team proved they did not have the mental fortitude to overcome some of these challenges and succeed in spite of them. This is probably the most disappointed I have ever been with this program. I unfortunately did not experience the successes this program saw prior to 1998, but I did taste some with our Elite 8 run when I was a freshman and Odom's buzzer beater the following year, and we certainly had some opportunities through Sergeant Slaughter's era. Just beyond frustrating to be where we are this year at this point, and the fact that we have not been able to dance in so long. Utterly disgusted.

News flash Dan. Not only did your players quit tonight so did you. Constant barking at refs even during timeouts when you should be desperately coaching your team. Absolutely no adjustments on the offensive end.. I think you are using crayons on that useless grease board.. Will you ever draw up a successful play after a timeout.. Oh yeah I loved you screaming at your players near the end of the game and throwing your hand out in disgust at them. Really sucks going to games like this.. Sucks to care this much about a program that may have reached its peak under this coach. Can't believe my wife and I are talking about upgrading our seats next year. I guess the positive is there probably be plenty to choose from. Shocking that this team is not improving as other teams are.. It all starts with the coach..

Y'know...I 'get' the feeling bad for Hass bit...but...not sure you can say that "he's played like all-world and despite his awesome play..." Trying not to be too harsh and, he had decent #s tonight, but this is a collective mess and everyone's involved, no one really stands above it all...

I don't disagree, but hard to judge on a night that nobody even looked interested in playing the game at all. Disgraceful effort.

Hit the nail on the head with those last few sentences. Too many times this year they simply have shown that they are a mentally weak and soft team and simply didn't care to represent our school with any type of fight or pride. That all starts at the top, and most of this blame is put on Dan Hurley. A new low, indeed.

And we had it again. It's like both losses to Dayton made the team believe their season was over and they had no shot at the tournament so they played dead. In the end the La Salle and Fordham losses will probably have a bigger impact on us missing the tournament than the two Dayton games. Don't forget, after the La Salle game they came out flat and were down big against UMass. If they do that again on the road at George Mason they won't be able to come back like they did against UMass.

RR2, it's not even going to matter, unless they are playing their way out of the NIT......

After tonight, our at large chances are dead. Stone cold dead.

And I think they know it.....so things could get even uglier.

Someone said earlier, how we play against Fordham will determine if the team cared or not...well I think we got our answer.

If we were a P5 school that could easily afford to buy a coach out, a performance like tonight would get you fired...if not immediately then at season's end. especially when you factor in some of the other crap games we've had so far.

Given the play of EC in this game and recent ones, I now have a different view of how last season played out. EC is no firecracker so why would the loss of one player cause such drop off in last season's play from the preceding NIT year. If you have a coach who doesn't moan every adversity and make excuses all the time, he would rally the remaining players to play harder and exceed expectations. No, we got Dan Hurley with the long face and excuses to provide an environment to justify non performance. Hey, we lost EC, what do you expect. Now with EC back this team is not much better than last year. You add his jawing with the referees rather than coaching and you understand quickly why his record is just above .500 in five years!!

Dan's openly mourning the loss of EC was clearly
not helpful on the psyche of the team.
Carrying EC's headband in his pocket to every game
was a bit over the top.
His team had enough talent to at least be an NIT team,
instead of the close to .500 mediocrity the were.
Again, Ed Cooley lost Kris Dunn and was,"next man up!"
and went to the NCAAs with a seven man roster.
We, on the other hand, never fail to underachieve.

how bout those Celts?! Isaiah Thomas is nasty.

I'm not even pissed about last night, although at a loss for words directly after the fact, call it shocked if you want. Shocked that the team was kind enough to let us off the hook early, instead of rebounding from the loss to a top team and then playing like all world against the 'cupcakes' until we lose to VCU, we got this shit show last night, again when you think about it, they did us a favor.

After Fordham took the lead from 38-38 they were done........you could see it......how many wild airballs or barely hit the rim shots did they throw up......actually "throw up" describes this travesty perfectly.

At least in the other losses to LaSalle and Richmond they had a stretch where they played some good basketball and attempted a comeback....last night there was none of that.....they were awful from beginning to end.

Hurley once again totally out coached and out classed. He makes it embarrassing to be a URI fan. I'm convinced his team totally blocks him out, especially after another big time loss like Dayton, he's even harder to take. In my opinion he'd be the perfect coach for Rutgers, where losing and mental abuse of their players is institutionalized.

Once again we saw URI's late first half futility. First, they allow a Sengfelder lay-up with 30 seconds left to break the tie and give Fordham a two point lead. Then we have a URI timeout for our crack coach to develop a play that will send the team off at the half on a positive note. But once again we fail to even get off a shot as Garrett makes a turnover with eight seconds left, which allows Antoine Anderson to travel the length of the court and lay the ball in for a Fordham four point lead and it is those Rams who leave the floor energized for the second half where they have the opening possession. The details change, but the late first half ineptness continue. Is it any wonder that it also occurs late in the game!!!

URI fell for his promises and extended him to keep him here.

Thorr and Dooley are as much to blame as anybody in this mess.

They wanted him? They got him....and now we all lose.

Other coaches can't stand him and think little of him as a coach......and now his own fan base, or what's left of it, agrees.
