I've been posting the "game after" for about the past 5 games now and we have won 4 of our last 5. It gives a place for talking about the next game instead of cluttering up the present game which was often happening. It has actually worked quite well imho to capture info pertinent to the particular game.
I don't believe in jinxes

There is no way that posting game category threads on a message board causes the team to lose games that they otherwise would have won.

I was even thinking of posting the Dayton Game for a week from Friday to be honest

Sometimes you just have to shake things up, what the heck. 4 of 5 the last 5 have been W's and I'm predicting we will be 6 of our last 7 W's going into the Dayton Game on Friday Feb 10. But for sure these are two tough road games going into the Dayton Home Game.

I think the reason posters did not notice I was posting the "game ahead" is that everyone was so pissed off with the losses and the Baron 2.0 thread was so popular or they were staying away with the losses. Several were offering their tickets because they said they were not going to go to any more games the rest of the season.

I used to go to all the games in Amherst. But the fact that we would usually lose and the mud lot and shitty traffic management would mean coming home past midnight. And I think Mullins sucks for basketball.
What's the deal with that curtain thing?

I want a banner year but I also deeply want to sweep the Umass and St Joes of the world. BURY these teams that have given us heart ache over the years.

Hopefully the EC Matthews looking healthy development continues and he can show these Umass clowns that Donte Clark isn't in Matthew's league. EC carried the scoring burden on a top 3 A10 team in his sophomore year. Clark plays basketball in western mass. No comparison.

Thank god next game is UMASS or I'd be afraid of a trap game. Would be the perfect scenario for one. Big game on the road on national TV, game vs last place team, followed my massive home game on national TV. However, the rivalry with umass makes me believe this tram will be ready to run them out of the gym

Have not beaten UMass in Amherst since 2009...

AMHERST, Mass. -- Keith Cothran scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the tell-tale second half as Rhode Island came from behind to defeat Massachusetts 71-59 on Wednesday night.

There were six ties in the second half. Rhode Island stayed in front for good after a 57-57 deadlock after hoops by Cochran and Delroy James and points from the foul line by Jimmy Baron and Kahiem Seawright. That put the Rams on top 65-57 with 1:10 to play.

The Rams also got 9 points and 8 rebounds from Will Martell.

Rhode Island, (19-8, 8-4 Atlantic 10), has won seven of its last eight games. UMass (9-15, 4-7) has dropped six of its last eight.

Ricky Harris and Chris Lowe had 15 points apiece for the Minutemen.

Rhode Island scored the last nine points of the first half, cutting a 12-point deficit to three, 31-28, at halftime.

Always enjoyed the URI/umass games.. from the civic center to Mullins to the Ryan!
With umass doing whatever it can to get football off the ground and in a conference there might not be too many of these games left...
With that said there is no doubt Rhody has to step on there throats before the first TV timeout and put this game away and out of reach for umass.

Chris Lowe...he generally KILLED us during his time there.
This UMass team is still dangerous IMO. Talented but young, with no pressure and no real acknowledgement of a rivalry by their young guys they can get hot and pose a problem. Throw in Holloway who is a matchup nightmare for us and I don't expect this to be easy.
That said, we MUST win.

That was easily Dayton's worst offensive performance of the season... Actually, statistically, it's tied for the worst offensive performance in the Archie Miller era

FGs: 18/57 (31.5%)
3P: 6/20 (30%)
FT: 13/22 (59.1%)
TO: 19!!!

I just don't see us having that kind of performance against UMass.

He can get out perimeter players in foul trouble quick all by himself.

Then we lost AT HOME to them on Jimmy and Kahiem's senior night, where Jimmy broke the A-10 record for threes. The illegal screen on Ulmer...

If there's any teams that's doomed us the most it's UMass.
Our guys need to be jacked up for this rivalry game and be ready to crush them.
Last time we swept them in a season series was in 2003 and before that 1999.

Looks like we'll probably be there...major hurdle #1 cleared - permission from the boss to stay over in Amherst that night - sposed to be icy late. Secondary hurdle of ok to start work a few hours late on Wednesday after drive home will be much easier, especially if I tell them, "Rambone said...". ;)

Coincidentally, we have identical adjusted efficiency rankings for offense and defense -- each 54th best in D1.

Our two ugly spots, according to KenPom are:
FT Shooting % - 317th in D1 @ 64.6%
Def FT Rate - 327th in D1 @ 45.1%

We have a whole thread on FT Rate (which is NOT the same as FT shooting %). FT rate is how many FT attempts your opponent takes vs their FG attempts. We foul a lot and send our opponent to the line too much.

In conference, our allowed FT Rate is even worse at 48%, but fortunately our opponents are shooting FTs very poorly @ 66% so far in A10 play.

KenPom's computer says URI wins 75-70 with 67% confidence in a fairly uptempo game (72 posessions).

I know Hurley loves to play in your face defense but I would suspect that we lead the country in fouls committed 22-25 feet from the basket. I think we may need to back off a little in playing D that far from the basket to keep our guys out of foul trouble and reduce the free throw attempts by our oppenents.

That works both ways. If we back off, that might help with dribble drive penetration by our opponents and the fouls, but could hurt with our 3 pt. defense......

The problem we have is that our guards don't move their feet enough and use their hands too much...with the rules as they are...we're getting called.

Hurley should study Virginia's defense. Top 5 defense and top 25 in fewest fouls committed per game.

I think Dan knows his players aren't supposed to be so "handsy" on defense.....the problem is getting them to stop that.

You have to assume he knows how to coach defense without fouling so much.

There's a line between being aggressive and overaggressive.

We have won 5 of last 6 so looking at the latest performance:
Davidson 25 - URI 23
GW 15 - URI 14
St Bonaventure 23 - URI 18
Richmond 21 - URI 28
Duquesne 27 - URI 20
UMASS 28 - URI 19

So past 6 games URI has 122 while opponents have 139 fouls

No idea.
This is why this is such an arguable statistic.
When we are losing we foul more to get the ball back.

Point is posters are saying we are fouling more than our opponents and that is hurting us ...data last 6 games shows opponents are fouling more

To pick up on this, I think next year I'm going to create all of the game threads at the beginning of the year and so there can be a place for discussion about all of our opponents throughout the year. I thought about it this year but had a lot going on in the fall and never got around to it. The college football board I post on does this, and it works really well. To the extent a particular opponent is not of much interest, that thread can fall off the front page until they become relevant, so there isn't much concern about clogging the board. I will also talk to our tech person/admin/HMIC to see how practical it would be to just have a separate page within the men's basketball section (parallel to NCAA or Bust and Recruiting) for gameday threads if people don't like the idea of putting all of the threads in the NCAA or Bust page at once. Something we can talk about over the summer.

Anyways, for the time being I support ramster creating these threads ahead of time. No reason we can't be talking about all the other teams we will play before they are the very next game on the schedule.

TP,

Look at what Dayton already does. You can even go back to prior years and view any game.allorganized be season and by schedule.note that they do not post the games of the current season in advance too far. Idea is you don't want too much clutter. Let the game be the game. Baron 2.0 stuff stays in Baron 2.0

I really like their organization.
