Week #11 - Games of Interest
Re: Week #11 - Games of Interest
Even through my moaning and groaning I still feel somewhat confident about our chances to win this league. Especially , with the performances of some of the other teams. Agree on Richmond for sure. Even before VCU lost these couple of games, I didn't think they were a huge threat, at least to be the best team in league, or what they have been in past and what they were predicted, hope I am right. With all the ups and downs, I think the road still goes through a healthy Dayton. And even though we can't figure out a way to close games, we did have Dayton on the ropes over there. They didn't have Cooke and that is obviously huge, but I still am hoping we can begin to gel, somewhere in the vicinity I had originally hoped, and we will win this thing. Not only the regular season, but also the A 10 tournament.

Agree and we still have a very favorable schedule going forward....VCU at home vs their place is huge.giovanni wrote:Even through my moaning and groaning I still feel somewhat confident about our chances to win this league. God damn. At some point you'd think one team would lay an egg against us. Every other good team lays an egg randomly but we just get everyone's best shot. Valpo, Houston, PC, Dayton, La Salle. You'd think ONE TIME we could just happen upon a good team who didn't have it that night. ONE TIME GOD. ONE TIME.

Even though we don't have the ranking anymore, I'm sure we have a target on us due to our preseason expectations.

Dayton opened at 10 last night. Went to 12 this morning sometime. If Vegas knows their stuff, there is a reason for the move against an undefeated team in the conference. At this point, Vegas is still viewing them as a fraud. I have to agree.ramster wrote:as of 11am Vegas has:

Re: Week #11 - Games of Interest
Thursday evening action.
In the A-10:
Davidson at LaSalle. 7 PM. LaSalle is on a four game winning streak after opening its conference schedule with home loss to Dayton. While a home game, Davidson will test the Explorers' credentials as an A-10 contender, but the real challenge will come on Sunday when La Salle takes on VCU in Richmond.
Richmond at Dayton. 7 PM. On ESPNU. After a bad loss to Oral Roberts, Richmond has reeled off five straight wins. If the Spiders can get by Dayton, they will then enjoy three straight home games to help solidify their hold on first place and boost their confidence even further before their big battle with VCU on 2/1.
In action among URI OOC opponents:
James Madison at William & Mary. 7 PM.
Jacksonville State at Belmont. 8 PM.
Memphis at Houston. 9 PM. On ESPNU.

Dayton: No problem with Richmond. 75-59.
LaSalle holds off Davidson 90-83. They might be the dark horse team this season.
Our game with the Explorers on Feb. 21st might be another one of those "must win" games.

Davidson is a 2 man team....that's it.....
They and GW are heading south. LaSalle is dangerous, their offense looks to be the best in the A10.

Richmond - Dayton was a fun game to watch. Richmod couldn't hit a three to save their lives and Dayton made a living doubling Cline and stealing the kick out pass.

Teams like Houston and VCU are going to be tricky for us. We need them to be good, but because they're on the bubble with us they can't be too good.

Re: Week #11 - Games of Interest
Big day of basketball. Not a great or very important A 10 card today, unless we were to lay an egg. I expect this Duke team to begin to kick it in a little, even without Coach K and for now Amile Jefferson. They were unanimous #1 team pre season. And at this point they are 2 and 3 in the ACC with their only wins being against ACC bottom feeders BC and Georgia Tech, while losing all 3 of their league road games vs powerful teams in VA, Louisville and FSU. I am one of those guys who don't care for Duke at all, but respect them. I look for them to begin some very good play today.

Miami has beat Duke 4 out of the last 6. 2 of the last 3 @Duke.
Since Acc basketball was discussed, that NC state freshman Dennis Smith reminds me of Steve Francis.
ANYWAY, I came in here to say what is going on in Amherst?! IS Fordham causing problems in the A10 or what.

Re: Week #11 - Games of Interest
Heartbreaking loss for on the bubble Georgia. After squandering a double digit lead in the second half they inbounded the ball with 5.6 seconds to go. They eventually draw the foul...with 5.6 seconds to go. When the officials go to the monitor they see that Georgia took too long to draw the foul and Texas A&M got the win 63-62.

PRT, it's up to us to make the dance.....forget the OOC opponents...we have no control over what they do.
We have control over what WE do.......no more than 2 more losses, and a minimum appearance in the A10T semis.

In the first ten minutes of their game at home versus Mason, Richmond is responding much like the Rams did against La Salle. Let's see if they can turn it around.
